Meet
My offer to Millsap

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.First off I love the guy. 2nd, I’d love to keep him
4 year deal $34 million paid $10 mil, $9 mil, $8 mil, $7 mil (average $8.5 mil / yr)
His role would be to split time between SF / PF off the bench depending on certain matchups and stand out as one of the top 6th men in the league.
He isn’t going to start on a team that is currently better than the Jazz. Making that kind of money off the bench and getting an opportunity to dominate shouldn’t be that degrading. He would join the ranks of Harden, Ginobli, Terry, Odom etc. Every one of those guys would start on our team but they are more effective bench players on elite teams.

Sounds good to me.I really don’t think he would get a better offer. After this contract he could get maybe a two to three year ten mill total contract. That puts his total years as a Jazzman in the teens.
Its not the worst deal out there. But, to think that there are not teams who would pay him more is silly. Have you been watching the deals go down. Then have you seen the few teams who have tanked in the free agency this season. There are a few teams who would pay him more than we could afford. Watch and see….
Atlanta is one who would be loving Millsap about now. Their lust will just grow as the Free agency market continues to dry up. Nice to have cap space, at least it is if your a coastal team.
I could think of any number of teams who would potentially throw big money at Millsap. Portland for one, has always been high on Millsap. The Mavs are desperate for some offense. Millsap would vastly improve the Suns. The Pacers have been very interested in Millsap in the past. The Sixers have a hole at the PF spot. I bet the Nets would take Paul Millsap over Kris Humphries if they could.
I’m sure the Bobcats and the Raptors would pay a pretty penny for his services. Hell, if the Bulls amnestied Boozer, they could get the same stats and better defense for a fraction of the cost.
Don’t underestimate Millsap’s value on the free market, Kory. I’m sure KOC fielded offers for him, but none of them met his satisfaction.
Millsap is possibly the best all-around player on our team. Does he have an amazing offensive and defensive game? No. Does he have a good offensive and defensive game? Absolutely.
Plus he is a workhorse, and is pretty clutch.
Having said all that, I do like your deal. But I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some team pulled a Portland on Millsap and gave him a crazy front loaded contract. Stranger things have happened in the NBA.
I do think if we expect to resign Millsap, we’re looking at a minimum of 8 mil a season.
I would love to keep Millsap so long as he was happy to be a 6th man. I don’t think that he will be, and keeping him in a starting role is more harmful to Favor’s long term success than Millsap is worth.
Yeah with the new rules, contracts are getting way cheaper. Thats a good offer Kory. I think its the perfect solution and I also think Sap has a good perspective on his talent and abilities at this point. Millsap coming off the bench is the best option to make the team better.
