PG-13

We are 174 days away from the 2013 NBA Draft but I wanted to take a look ahead at the potential PG options (in case we fail to improve at that position via trade deadline). With another chance at getting Golden States pick and even our own, or acquiring a pick via trade, picking up one of these guys could become a reality. Let’s see who’s available.

Marcus Smart 6′4″ 225 Oklahoma State projected 9th pick
Trey Burke 6′0″ 190 Michigan projected 21st pick
Isaiah Canaan 6′1″ 200 Murray State projected 24th pick
Myck Kabongo 6′1″ 180 Texas projected 25th pick

I’m definately leaning toward Smart here simply for his size. He’s built more like a SG but is athletic, has good court vision, passes the ball well and is team oriented.

I don’t know much about Burke.

Canaan is a great shooter from behind the arc and is very sturdy for his size.

Kabongo appears to be a little Rondo/Tinsley mix which sounds strange mostly because of his passing style.

Let’s keep an eye on these guys. Maybe we see them showcase their skills in the sweet 16

Smart at 6′4 sounds good: hed be able to see from the end of the bench to see re-signed Watson shoot 8% from the floor and how to pick up your dribble at halfcourt.

Unfortunately, Corbin wont play any of those guys, but if I had to choose the best rookie PG to get DNPs, Id want a big PG.

  2. Point guards in this draft class are garbage. 2012 was a much better year for point guards. This years draft class is mostly guards and small forwards, if you’re looking for high quality players.

If the Jazz were serious about drafting a point guard, they would have done everything they could to get Damian Lillard, instead of doing nothing.

This year, I hope we go for Ben Mclemore or Shabazz Muhammed. Those guys are going top 5 though.

  3. Check out some you tube vids on Marcus Smart. I’m really big on this kid

Ben Mclemore or Marcus Smart would be awesome.

  5. Marcus Smart Season averages
    MIN 32.8 FGM-FGA 3.9-10.3 FG% .379 3PM-3PA 1.3-4.8 3P% .281 FTM-FTA 4.3-5.3 FT% .797 REB 6.2 AST 5.2 BLK 1.2 STL 2.6 PF 2.9 TO 3.3 PTS 13.4

So Obviously this guy plays defense, rebounds and can distribute the ball, but unfortunatly you shouldn’t be shooting 37.9% against college players. On the other hand, averaging 1.2 blocks and 2.6 steals tells me this dude is the real deal. He can shoot from the line, but gets there about as much as Big Al. And no point guard should be averaging 3.3 TO per game in college. What I say is he is a Mix between Rondo, and Rubio, after about 4 years in the NBA.

I don’t know anything about any of them, but could Bowler handle Burks and Burke on the floor at the same time? They’d be “tied up” (without a jump ball) all night long.
