Trade for a former lotto

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

5 big names from last years draft are being touted as “busts”, and Lillard is not one of those names. Would it make sense if we were to move Paul or Al to try and get one of these guys to backup our core 4 and build for the future? I just don’t see us getting anyone better than Sap or Big Al in return, so landing one of these guys now would be perfect timing especially when their teams are possibly disappointed in their contributions thus far.

Kendell Marshall (Phx)- not a starter by any means but could easily justify including Watson or Tinsley in a trade. Good facilitator to a 2nd unit

Bradley Beal (Was)- it’s only a matter of time that he will find his stroke and be a deadly force from outside. He could come in off the bench behind Burks and we would have no need for Foye going forward

Thomas Robinson (Sac)- I would love to see him following Favors off the bench if Millsap isn’t willing to

Austin Rivers (No) – Similar to Beal, he will find his game sooner than later

Meyers Leonard (Por) – my least favorite option here but wouldn’t be a terrible backup to Kanter

  1. With Cousins on the block and Robinson underperforming, Big Al would fill Sacs void

  2. and free up a ton of money to go after a top tier PG

Beal would come off the bench BEHIND Burks? Isn’t that like a death sentence? Burks can’t get off the bench unless half the team is injured so to get a guy coming behind him means we’d all forget he was even on the team!

I would say no way to Kendall Marshall and Austin Rivers. The other guys could be good options.

I really like the idea of getting players who would backup our current core four but have potential for improvement. To me, there are a lot of Millsap-type players. Brandon Bass, Glen Davis, David West, Scola, etc.

Considering Jazz should throw big contracts at C4, they sure try and fill the roster with young rookie contacted players at still have upside, I think thats a great idea and most sensible approach (however, sensible and ideas dont go with Jazz FO).

Remember in the summer when some player that got no minutes, was a high pick, and ppl said he was a bust and some of the fanbase wanted him traded……KANTER; if Jazz steal away a player that is seen as a bust but isnt, while dump Millsap or Al, that sounds like a good idea. Worse casr scenario, Jazz get Thabbet like OKC has and is a serviceable big with a small contact.

KC-very good suggestions…Bass, Davis, West and Scola would be perfect back ups. Frankly , statistically all of them have better numbers than who we’d like to start over them, however down the road I love them as back ups. David West is borderline all-star material right now and vital to the Pacers. I don’t see him going anywhere.

I think Sacramento could be a destination for one of our bigs, especially Cousins..If we could somehow get in a multi-team trade bringing us some picks I’d like that

@Kory As far as a back up PG is concerned do you remember Scott Machado? he lead the country is assists last year and I’m not sure where he’s at now, but I watched him play summer ball and he had court vision like our Tinsley does but was obviously much younger. I’d like to have a look at him.

If we get rid of Sap and Al we have to have another big. And a TRUE 7 foot big would be ideal….in come Myers Leornard from Portland…He’d be a great asset as a back up C and could be very good in years to come

Can you say Sap for Leonard+draft picks and fillers? Portland has always wanted Sap…maybe they’d like to get out of the Mathews contract?

But remember guys we do need SOME veteran presence on this team. On young teams that’s so important, but even more so for us because we have a young coaching staff. Not just our head coach but his staff doesn’t have much experience either.

  9. Yes Kevin, have Beal play behind Burks for now. It would keep Burks working to perform knowing that a former 3rd pick is waiting on his heels for a chance to shine. Also, Burks will be gone as soon as his contract is over. He has an arrogance about him that leads me to believe that he wants to play for a big market team as soon as he can. I dont see him staying in Utah with Hayward, Favors and Kanter unless we land a top 10 PG or a dynamic rookie guard like Lillard or a Kemba Walker type player

@Chase – I believe Machado is creating really good garbage time partnership with Motieljunas on the far end of the Rockets bench.

I cant see many teams giving up on a rookie lottery pick after less than half a season. I reckon getting some future picks would be sufficient with a backup big to balance the books. I would really like to see if Murphy could become a more consistent version of the role Foye should be playing(Back up SG)
