In a recent poll in this website, Calderon seemed to be the second preferred player by the 17 poll votantsĀ inĀ the case of a Harris trade. He is a “pass-first” point guard and has great shooting abilities … as evidenced by his last game at ESA. Not sure it could be a straight trade. Maybe “Calderon +X ” for “Harris+Y”, or with a third team. Not completely sold on the effect it could have on the team right now.

As far as salaries, you could do a straight across Harris for Calderon deal. I’m also not completely sold on how much of an overall effect it would have on the team. The two players are fairly close on ability, and the overall impact they can have on games.
I’m wondering if the Jazz couldn’t pull off a three team trade to bring Mo Williams back to town. He’s definitely a serious threat to score on the perimeter, and has a high motor.
Harris isn’t a bad player, but he’s really having to alter his own personal style of play, in order to fit in with Utah’s system. We were actually playing better as a team when he wasn’t looking to score that much. The last couple games he’s been looking to create for himself a little more, and both games resulted in Jazz losses.
Renting Calderon for a season doesnt sound smart, its a move backward as he learns the system and then leaves the next season. Why not just get a free agent next season. MO Williams, Billups, Nash, Kidd, Miller, Augustine, DWill, Holiday, Henrich, Sessions and many many others are up for free agency next season.

When trading, you want to get something better than you have. Meaning Younger, Longer Contract, less money, better shooting, better assists, or what ever. You dont trade an expiring contract of a PG, for the expiring contract of another slightly older PG (if that description fits) in the middle of a season. You dont trade for old guys with expiring contracts, unless your dumping money, which we really have no need presently. It makes little to no sense to trade for him, and what is their incentive to take Harris even if you did?
With the shortened season, no one will probably do any serious trades until they’re “out of the running” for the post-season. Unless a team is looking for a good bench player who can contribute fairly quickly without the need to learn a new system, I don’t see any trades until March or April.
Speaking of trades and the short season when is the deadline?? Regular season it was about the last week in Feb.
Calderon would be a good fit here. Mo Williams would bring a whole new dynamic to the team. We could use a guy like him right now. I’m thinking SF is a bigger problem than PG right now though.
I would do this deal in a heartbeat. No Calderon may not be “better” but his skillset is completely different and a much better fit. Harris is the better scorer and slasher. While Calderon is a far superior passer (over 8 apg) and outside shooter. Two things that this team really needs. This is a deal I could actually see helping both teams.
Calderon is overrated. Those 3s he made us against us in overtime were flukes. Harris is a better player. But yes, Calderon is a better distributor. Still wouldn’t make the trade.
Patrick and Ray are right. With the condensed season a quarter of the way through, I don’t think any major trades are going to happen (at least not in the Western Conference).
I think if your goin to trade harris at all jose is your best player to bring in he just fits into what are organization needs from a pg more then ur other options I don’t think we should trade anyone now but if u do jose is your best bet I just hope we don’t bring in a guy like mo nash billups or kid I think if that’s what the jazz are planning you make a run for dj for the bobcats he is young and he plays jazz style of ball nash kidd and billups and miller is the old mo and holiday and dwill is just to much hassel and cash plain and simple and as for what ray said I disagree I think u will see some big trade this year you already saw one with chris paul I think you will at least see one more big name traded either a howard or dwill teams are to scared of them not resigning so they will look to drop them and get something for them instead of nothing
@Trevor: was your whole post really one sentence? really? I weep for the future.
