Shaq?

Some reasons why I wouldn’t mind to have Shaq

If we could pick him up for 2-2.5 mil…

-He is HUGE!! He can bring a huge defensive presence down low for big teams such as the Lakers.

-He hates the Lakers and also would love to play more of the teams in the west.

-With Sloans system, if he will listen and take constructive criticism, it can make him a better player than he has been in the last few years.

-We need a productive BIG man.

-He has a ton of experience and can possibly help out Fes if we were to keep him.

-With Williams as a point it will make him a better player as well. Not to mention will want to play more without the shadow of LeBron

-He is pretty much too big to stop. (Like the game against the Bulls last season, when Noah and Miller got 5 fouls in 3 minutes trying to defend the big man)

Just some funny thoughts. If we could get him for cheap and he can drop his ego I think he would be a great fit for the Jazz for 2 or so years. Let me know what some of ya think!

I am pretty sure Shaq would not come here for anything close to 2 million. One of the most exciting parts of Jazz basketball is watching Deron race down court and leave the ball for the trailing player right behind him, that would never be Shaq, unless he never made it back downcourt to play defense from the play before. I know there are several fans that would like to see him come to the Jazz, but I am afraid those fans might be viewing him through the rose-colored glasses of his past greatness, not what he is now.

Couldn’t have said it better, Deb.

@Jace…unfortunately, I just don’t think Shaq would want to play in Utah. Now, I could be wrong because he went to Cleveland (not necessarily a glamorous location). But I just can’t imagine the guy coming here.

As for his play, Deb is absolutely right that Shaq is nothing close to what he once was. That said, I think he would still provide a valuable contribution because he’s still a large, physical defensive presence down low. The idea of having Shaq on the floor is to force other teams to miss baskets either because he blocks the shot, alters the shot, or forces you to take a low-percentage perimeter shot. All of those lead to fast breaks or early offense on the other end, making it easier for the Jazz to score. You might only play him 20-25 minutes a game, but he would provide significant defensive help in those 20-25 minutes.

All interesting thoughts guys. I doubt he would come, but this is about what if. With his snub in the summer so far, who knows where his mind is. But it would be fun to see him come with the thought to prove all those teams who passed on him wrong. We would not miss out on Deron’s dishes behind, since he would probably play a back up role. All except the few times we needed him against bigger teams like the Lakers for his defensive ablilities. So as a back up guy, I think he would be quite the presence, and we would have him in times that we needed him. If he came with something to prove, I think he would be a great addition. Especially at the 2.2 mil. But that is only a what if..

GIVE IT UP, WHAT THE HELL DO WE NEED SHAQ FOR WE HAVE AJ

  6. Chusmer says:

Really? We don’t need Shaq. Shaq doesn’t need us. Shaq and Sloane would kill each other. He is big…that’s about it these days. So stop the Shaq talk.
