Will Dennis Lindsey make moves now?

Posted by: Jake on August 7th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Does Dennis come out the gates setting the tone of someone that gets things done like Ferry did in Atlanta, or do we see our roster unchanged? Does he get teams to move on a deal for Jefferson or Millsap or possibly both with Millsap making it clear that he wants more money?

Does Dennis bring a champion’s mindset to our organization coming from another small market that has dominated, not leaving that as an excuse for us any more?

What changes in our organization can we expect to see with him in the front office? By the way I have been looking for a change from KOC for a while now. He’s proven to be good for sure, but we need great in order to win championships in my opinion.

Thoughts?

He comes from the Spurs who based their system off of ours. I wouldn’t expect him to come in rocking the boat right off the bat.

I think Dennis is in an absolutely fantastic position! Usually, GM’s (like Ferry who I think is a brilliant GM, and he did try to fight MJ once so I have a ton of respect for him) have to blow-up teams, tank a year, then draft well, then develop the young talent. So basically he gets to skip the blow-up part, the tanking part, the drafting well part, so the question is–will he jump into the developing young talent part head first?!

Again, he is in a absolutely fantastic position! Jazz have about 20M of expiring contracts tied up in three players the jazz DO NOT need (some might say even Millsap, 8M, is not needed, but now that the FA pool is dry, I think we need Millsap). So, can a GM walk into a better situation?! But in order to develop that young talent, Jazz need to get rid of Al, and Watson and Bell are obsolete, not even for depth are those two needed.

So I’ll give credit to KOC for dumping DWill and accelerating the rebuilding process, but after that excellent decision, KOC hasn’t gotten into 2nd gear. So basically, KOC got the car, filled the gas tank, turned on the ignition, got the car into 1st, but could not get out of 1st. Hopefully Dennis hits overdrive come October 1st, because that is the difference between being competitive and being a contender.

Nice reply Omar! What do you see October 1st? Why is that date important? Sorry if I didn’t catch the obvious of that date, so I explain a bit more if you would. thanks :)

Matt I don’t know that we can expect more of the same simply because if the Spurs have based their model off the jazz, then why do we need Dennis? Also if thats the case the Spurs have kicked our butts and took our system to a whole new level.

The one statement I hate hearing in this organization is “compete” As if the goal is to show we are a good team and not be embarrased by looking like we belong. I hate also “put in a position to have a chance to win”…. I just think the thought should be domination every day and night. It becomes something expected from everyone and is the culture of this organization. I did like Greg Miller saying this was a tangible step towards a championship, so that was good.

  4. @Jake, October 1st is the day that training camp opens. It’s essentially the beginning of the fall season, although some might say that doesn’t truly begin til after the preseason ends.

I’m of the opinion that training camp is one of the most important elements of a successful season.

  5. I don’t see any major trades happening. I think we brought in Lindsay to see what he get accomplished in the 2013 offseason, when most of our contracts will be expiring.

  6. UGH have some bad news though. Apparently the Jazz are re-entering talks with Howard. No not Dwight. Josh, the bowlegged, injury-prone, 29% shooting ball hog. That arrogant idiot does not deserve to be on the Jazz.

Where will he even fit in? Insurance policy? We’ve already got Gordon Hayward, Randy Foye, and Alec Burks at the SG position.

I MIGHT be ok with him sitting on our bench for the veteran’s minimum salary. He’s simply not worth more than that. And whatever happened to those “5-10 teams” that were “wanted” Howard? Maybe they watched him in the playoffs.

  7. I say we trade Jefferson plus whatever drafts picks or Raja, Earl, Foye, Carol, Murphy, Millsap in pretty much any combination to Orlando for Dwight Howard and just rent him for one year. I would die of happiness if I could see a Derrick Favors-Dwight Howard starting front court.

  8. KCJones says:

Favors-Howard would be sick. Think they’d take Al and Millsap for Dwight?

I’m pretty sure the Jazz-Howard rumors are all started by Howard’s agent.

  9. Omar says:

Right in Jake, if you are an NBA franchise, being competitive should be a given, that shouldnt be the bar and highest goal. I really dont see a point in using an entire camp, like Nick said, camp is super important, so why use this years to focus on a player and offense that will not be here or used next year??? And defense as well. Al is one dimensional (iso) and wont be resigned.

Which brings me to my next point: I think Dane has hit on an absolutely brilliant idea! Jazz are renting Al for the yrar at about the same price they would rent Dwight at!! Al?! Come on, this is a no brainer, its like renting a mini van for about the same prize you could rent a Ferrari!! This is the best play the Magic have. Nets are out, Mavs have nothing of value to trade, Lakers gave all there picks to Suns, Hawks just have Horford, Jazz are not a team on Dwights list so the franchise saves face by not caving in to Dwight, and they get a ton in return, and dump a salary they had being trying to dump.

    Magic get:
Al, Millsap, Bell (Florida native), Watson, Murphy, Carroll, 2013 Jazz 1st rounder

    Jazz:
Dwight and Richardson (maybe Duhon if we had to)

  10. Jake says:

That is a dislike trade Dwight would not resign with us!

  11. KCJones says:

I’ve had bad words for Dwight too, but let’s see…chance to re-sign Dwight or a chance to re-sign Millsap (who has rejected an extension and who will be a FA) and Al (to whom we haven’t offered one and will also be a free agent).

I’d take the chance to re-sign Dwight.

  12. Omar says:

Haha, I had some bad feeling towards Dwight also.

How is Danes idea not a GREAT idea?! All the best deals are off the table since the draft and most FA have finished. The only possible big trade is for Iggy, but as well as hes playing, they might trade Evans before they do Iggy. Im guessing they keep both. Whats important to note is that even if Howard decided to leave, all the teams Howard listed CANNOT sign him as a FA, all their money is tied up, so Jazz would at least sign and trade Dwight if he wants to go to those teams capped out. So if Howard wants to go to Lakers id ask for Gasol.

Would there be a better defensive frontcort than Howard, Favors, Kanter, and Evans?! NO team would come close. Id even say Dwight and Favors would be the best 2some defensively in the league! Kanter would get an increase and Evans in minutes. Jazz would be the number 1 defense and top 3 in rebounds, id say the best rebounding team. Jazz would win the championship in one year. And Dwight has NEVER played with any interior defense help, I bet playing along side defensive ace like Favors would really make it hard for him to reject.

With Al id be surprised if Jazz make it out of the first, with Dwight Id be surprised if Jazz are not playing for the championship. Miami doesn’t even have 1 legit center, the Jazz would have 3. Jazz in 5.

  13. Jake says:

OMAR… I was talking about this Dwight for Jefferson and Millsap a while ago, as I’m sure others have and everyone was calling me an idot and stupid for such an idea. I have the same thought you do. Favors and Dwight would be INSANE!! We could get any players we wanted with that kind of fire power. We literaly would be a destination for many players knowing they had a defensive anchored team in a carbon copy of dwight and favors creating all sorts of problems. This is the only trade I even see as valuable as well since more 1st round picks makes us to young and continuing to develope into the future.

If we hold the sign and trade of Dwight as a backup option if he wants to leave we still can get some drafts from that don’t you think? ITS WORTH THE GAMBLE… and if he leaves then we GAMBLED and it didn’t pay off, but it thats the nature of gambling. Win big or die trying.

  14. Jake says:

What is the best scenario for Orlando? What can they get out of Dwight? Can they get a lot more from other teams? If so what are those options? Does Orlando think Baby Davis is as good as Millsap in some way to where they don’t need him? Just brainstorming here. I would flip out if the Jazz could make a Dwight trade. We would go from undersized to Monsters with Dwight, Favors and Marv-Will in our backcourt. Not to mention Hayward at the 2 lol!! That really makes me just imagine the possibilities of incredible defense!

  15. Omar says:

I do remember it being mentioned. Youve hit on a great idea Jake. I think you should act like Josh Howards agent creating rumors, but instead push the Howard trade as a rumor. Maybe all Jazznation should spread the rumor on social media.

I dont even see it as a loss if Howard walks for nothing. There is absolutely no reason why the Jazz should resign Al, so thats 15M that walks for nothing, so really we only would Millsap, but he has already rejected an extension so how much do we really want to spend to keep Millsap?? We actually free up playing time for Kanter by trading Al and Millsap. I dont see any bad really.

  16. Jake says:

    OMAR

Totally agree! We really have 2 players that can easily give us 35 minutes a night in Favors and Dwight if the trade worked out. Dwight averages more minutes than that I think. It’s often to see him play over 40 minutes in games, I know I’ve seen that before, not that we would need that, but in this case we would be getting rid of a log jam and upgrading at the center position to only the best center in the league, which means we can easily sacrifice deapth. My whole thing with a trade is rather than get better at a few positions go after a dominating position and grow from there. The level of play from someone who can dominate and elevate everyone else to be far better players. Especially if we have STRONG leaders.

We need leadership badly. Thats the main thing I see Mo-will offering better than Harris. So anything we can get in leadership especiallyon defense will be something that rubs off on anyone. I’m not much of a social expert but whoever is please come in and help us out, lets get Jazz Nation really talking about this and making some noise.

Dennis show your skillz! Find a way! I can only imagine what other talent we can recruit in 2010 to motivate dwight to stay and with the cap space we have we can do some damage! Plus a full training camp with our young players and another season under their belt! Why would he walk away from a championship team possibly even this year and for sure by next year all the peices would fall in place magneticly. Talent would flock to us without having to ask or recruit.

  17. @KC, thought’s what I thought until Brian T Smith tweeted that Jazz were re-entering talks with him. Check his twitter feed. He’s not a great writer, but he’s usually the first to tweet Jazz news.

  18. Jake says:

So nick knows all would you go for millsap and jefferson for dwight? Not if it would happen but would you be for it if it could happen or did?
