Keep a hold on Corbin

Guys the same way I see the players growing as a unit, I think Ty is starting to figure things out as well. Tonight’s game against the Mavs I saw good coaching, I saw Corbin follow his instincts rather than trying to stick to his squared-minded substitutions system. However, I need to see more. Lets hope it starts trend and see how this evolves.

Now as for the players’ performance, I think we truly have something special in Gordon Hayward, at this point I say we need to stick to this kid like glue. He’s starting to burst. How do you envision the following games after what we’ve seen in the 4th quarter tonight?

Its the Mavericks they have one of the worst defensive teams in the league, don’t get to high on wins to bad teams.
As you said need to see more.

  2. Shane says:

@James: thanks for something positive about Corbin on here. Too many debbie downers lately!

  3. Omar says:

    Jazz lost the 1st and 3rd quarter….again.

Kamen had 10 of the first 15 points for Mavs—killing Al….so Corbin pulls out…Milsap?!

Young talent bailed out Corbin, and ya Ill give Corbin credit for not killing the Jazz himslef, by not putting in Watson back in game, but that should be obvious. As far as the offense down the stretch, Corbin kept running iso Al, and it didnt work. Jazz had success when they ran O through Burks and Hayward, and Millsap setting screens. The only 2 plays was when Al kick out to Hayward, which most centers can do. Defensively Al kept getting beat no rim protecting and a future couplr of and ones.

The Jazz have a more talented team. I think Burks is just making hard to pull him out without angering Jazz fans. When Mo comes back, I want to see how fast he DNPs Burks?? Watson is just wasting minutes from Carroll or Burks: its one or the other each night. So Corbin is still not winning me over. Carroll > Watson
    Burks >>>>>>>>>Watson.

  4. Agreed Omar I was at the game thinking the same thing. They were extremely small at the time with Brand at center. It was Millsap time to shine with a smaller PF. But Al gets left in with Favors. Al looked stuck in mud on defense. Then Favors had to guard Marion which is unfair to Derrick. How long did it take Corbin see that with Watson out there its basically 4 on 5. We’ll see if he sticks to this NEW Pg idea lol.

  5. Andy says:

2nd you Omar on the fact that Corbin isn’t an all-star coach . But the fact is he is improving. Give him to the end of the year at least. We aren’t a contender this year anyway. Favors, Burks, and Hayward to close the game was the right decision, yet you don’t give him kudos for this. We may have to suffer through growing pains, but Al is starting to make a defensive effort. Even though he is a black hole, tonight proved we needed him simply because Kanter/Favors get in foul trouble. That being said, gotta love the way Kanter/Favors/Hayward/Burks looked tonight. The Jazz are gonna be trouble soon.

  6. there is still alot of flaws that are just who he is. He is not making the best use of talent and still stagnant offense on teams that gaurd the post. No way Favors should EVER be taking 2 shots a game. Straight bull!@#$%.

  7. disco says:

@Omar-Corbin is improving. he made one good decision tonight with Burks, he normally makes zero. Give credit where it is due. I will also say that in 2 years kanter will be the best centre in the league, assuming he is given the opportunity

  8. Shane says:

People get on Corbin’s case for not playing Favors more. He had 5 fouls in 13 minutes last night with a tough match-up against Dirk. Before he can play 35 minutes a game, he has to learn to foul less. Same thing with Kanter. Also, don’t think Favors will play that much now because they are bringing him back slowly from his foot injury.

With Burks, I was happy to see him play the point last night and actually finish the game out.

  9. Kevin says:

It was a good game, but don’t put Burks’ and Hayward’s great performances on Corbin’s shoulders. The only time Corbin makes good decisions is when his hand is forced.

I get down on Corbin because he’s had two years with a talented roster and we’ve accomplished a heck of a lot of nothing. And once the oldies (Mo, Tinsley, Big Al, Millsap) leave, we will have ZERO experience because Corbin can’t figure out how to move young players along in their progression.

We got lucky with scheduling and happened to play a team that is a mess right now. Don’t misinterpret that as Corbin suddenly being a great coach.

  10. KCJones says:

I would be more than ecstatic if there was growth in Corbin, in our veterans, and in the team as a whole.

I’ve seen better defensive effort from Jefferson.
Millsap seems to have been knocked back into form by some rough play.
Hayward is looking good out there.
    Corbin played Burks over Watson.

These are all great steps. I don’t really want to get caught in the groove of bashing on people despite making improvements on things I’ve been critical about, so I have to give some props here to the team improving. It doesn’t change the fact that we’re .500 and should, in my opinion, be better than that.

As far as the young guys, I think they’re ready. Yes, there will most likely be a step back a bit before some leaps forward, but that’s ok. Trade for the best dynamic young player you can with our assets besides C4 and run with it.

  11. Steven says:

If the Jazz had lost last night that would have been on Corbin, Dallas were a team that had lost 8 in 9 games before last nights game had been played.

There are many times that decisions are forced on Corbin, and he only takes those options when all others are exhausted. There is good reason to experiment with Burks and Hayward at point against teams like Phoenix and Dallas, both teams are just plain bad right now and have no real confidence against any line up. Hayward was also the best player at the half and yet Corbin was content for the team to continue its usual offensive route in the 3rd quarter, it was only when that clearly wasn’t working that Corbin turned to Burks and Hayward. If Corbin had created an offense at the break that was based on the hot hand of Hayward and the distribution that he was capable of Dallas could have been put away early. Instead he allowed Dallas to build up a lead of their own that could have been too much to pull back had his stubbornness to change persisted for much longer.

  12. KCJones says:

Well veterans need a steady diet of minutes, Steven, regardless of actual production. Corbin has not taught you anything!

  13. Guido says:

I think our best card to make a trade is Jefferson… we can replace him, easily with what we have… no doubt bout it… Millsap at leat is team icon and is always good to have team identification players.

  14. Guido says:

Also, we could rescue a good player from a looser team with him… like kemba Walker maybe..

  15. Omar says:

    Lol disco!

Instead of DNP Burks to Watson can get his minutes Corbin is now DNPs Carroll?! Al still leads team in minutes. I wont give Corbin til those two fundamental flaws are corrected. Carroll can play the point better than Watson! Al should never get more minutes than Kanter and Favors COMBINED! Kanter was playing hard with fire, si even with Favors in foul trouble, that should just mean Kanter should get more minutes.

    Plus Jazz lose 1st and 3rd quarters…..again!

Jazz were down 7 at the end of first as per usual. Jazz do that every game with Al not defending paint. Against good teams, that lead will balloon and not even the C4 can rescue the bad starts, just like Nuggets other night. Thats why Jazz have ONLY 4 wins against teams with winning records. These bad starts are cuz Jazz start with their worst interior defender Al, and their worst wing defender Foye.

And U really dont get, “well Hayward needs to come off the bench so he gets his touch with the ball”……uuuhhhh how bout we just bench Al and Foye?! Start Favors and Hayward (improve defense and starts), and run a more fluid offense that gets others involved and going (poor Marvin gets all his minutes with Al, I feel for you Marvin). Problem solved. Til then no credit for Corbin doing a good job, just not his usual brain dead coaching.

  16. Omar says:

Lol, if someone stabs you with a knife 9 inches and then pulls it out 6 inches, do you call that progress??

  17. The talent thats on this team will continue to make Corbin look good. He is a clueless moron with player rotation, offense, and defense. So when he is finally forced to play are young guys, They produce and play great. He looks good to the Jazz Front office, and It seems they are just as Moronic and clueless. It seems to me its going to be cycle we go thru every year with Corbin until he’s gone.

  18. #firecorbin
    That is all.

  19. Jay Ericksen says:

Wow you know Corbin could do all the things that you all gripe about and you still would find somthin to down grade him .
You guys all talk about lettin the youngsters learn and are willing to let them make all their mistakes , but what about Corbin he is just as much a youngster as the c4 are in expeirence . Shouldnt he be allowed to make his mistakes too . Really I see him making changes and playin the players that you all want to but he still cant get no love from ya all . Yes he still makes mistakes , he has not coached any team but this one , he is just like the youngsters are . Mistakes will come for all involved but like ya all say they will get better at it or they will fade away .
Thanx James for a positive post . I for one appreciate it . I will stand by Corbin till seasons end , I beleive in him and the Jazz !!!!!!!

  20. Thank you James, I am getting tired of all this hating on Corbin, and you are right. I had started falling into the negative mindset of expecting Corbin to follow his typical game plan – which has been complained about ad nauseum.

Last night was great coaching… I was at the game, 3 rows from the Mavs bench, Carlisle was outcoached by corbin last night. Corbin is breaking his patterns, and he is still very green as a coach, of a team with a total of one all star appearance (the injured Mo Williams)

Some fans aren’t going to be happy until Corbin figures a way to play a 12 man rotation, at least 25 minutes each.

Omar, the Bucks just fired Skiles, you should apply for the job since you know everything about being an NBA coach
