According to the Trade Machine this would lose us 4 wins a year, I think that is total crap.  If you look at our losses, so often it is due to betting absolutely murdered by opposing PGs.  Rondo is probably the best defensive PG in the league.  He is also one of the most prolific assist machines in the league, while being a good efficient scorer.  If we had Harris as our backup PG and Rondo as the starter, we would dominate the PG spot.  With Millsap out of the way Favors and Kanter will get enough minutes to truly develop without costing us much of a dropoff.  (I personally think Millsap is a better offensive player, while Favors and Kanter are both superior defenders).  Finally, dealing Miles will free up our rotation at the wings to 4 players and allowing us to get Hayward and Burks more minutes.  From the Jazz standpoint this move would make us a contender.  Personally, if it was me I would throw in one of our two picks this year to sweeten the deal.

From the Celtics standpoint it gives them a SOLID scoring PF to go with Garnet down low.  Millsap is young and was in the top 10 talk of MVP prior to the All-Star break.  Also, Boston gets Miles which gives them an expiring contract SF who is a decent young slasher (something they don’t have) who can back up Paul Pierce.  I don’t know why Boston would trade away Rondo, who has been their best player for a few years now, but if we can get him, I would love it.

  1. would you want his large-market team attitude in utah? do you think he would be willing to stay here and improve the team or would he pout and hurt the development of hayward, burks, kanter, favors and our two incoming lottery picks? he is a remote throwing, tantrum throwing psycho after all

  2. Browncoat says:

Boston is probably looking for a draft pick or young player to go with someone like Millsap. I don’t think Miles fits that bill, depends how much they like Millsap.

  3. Browncoat says:

Competitive is quite a bit different than psycho, Dane. Rondo wants to do one thing, win. Boston is going to be rebuilding pretty aggressively now or at the end of the season and Rondo is not going to be happy in an unstable environment.

The Jazz have been a winning team consistently for years, he could be the key to getting us back to the playoffs and to what we all want.

Either that or we draft a young point guard (Lillard is a possibility) and our young guys take over next year…

  4. I agree with Dale, the rest of you are clearly idiots.

  5. LOl..sorry Dane,,I agree with Dane

  6. RONDO WILL NOT WORK IN OUR SYSTEM!! Watch a celtics game every now and then and understand what is going on.. Or I can just tell you and you will see when you watch.

This is how the Celtics offense work. Rondo drives toward the basket and draws a crowd to him. He throws the ball our to Allen, Pierce, Garnett, or any other “JUMP” shooter on the team. They do not run post plays AT ALL!! What do the Jazz primarily run? Post plays.. The big men on our team do not shoot jump shots. They run ISO plays and pass into the post. We do not have jump shooters that can help that type of PG.

So I have posted this multiple times but obviously you all do not get it. He is a system player and our system does not work with how he plays. Just like Harris now you would all be complaining about Rondo in 6 months because he does not fit the system.

  7. Dallan how doesn’t that work in are system when are system is a simple inside out just like bostons is?they work it inside to kg or rondo or paul take it on a drive.back last year they worked in inside to big baby or perkins or kg. Rondo is use to working a system where you work it inside out and that’s what the jazz run. If there is any pg who’s style fits in in utah its rondo. Not attitude that’s the question the jazz need to ask themselfsl do they want a boat load of talent with an attitude or not. As far as a pg that fits a utah system he is the perfect fit. A pass first pg plays tuff d runs the fast break great but can run a half court offense and, gets it inside first before shooting or passing it out. That’s jazz basketball that’s what we have always been about. Not alot of threes get the closest and, estiest shot you can and, push the ball when you can as well.

  8. Everyone always talks about Rondos attitude! His attitude is that he plays with passion and a chip on his shoulder which the jazz could use. They need that guy that fire will fire them up after he gets a technical for yelling at the ref’s. Plus the guy has four years left on his contract. Four years is a lot of time to be throwing alleyoops to Evans and Favors and Burks to help sell him on staying here not to mention in Boston he has been the fourth leg of the big four out there, always takin a back seat to Allen Garnett and Pierce. This would be his team he would be the vet who helps build the young guys confidence just like their big 3 did for him. Favors has shown the last few games that he’s a way better option than Millsap and he’s done most of it on his own without the help of Harris. Imagine a point guard who averages 10 assists a game teaming up with him, his numbers would skyrocket and show everyone why he was so highly recruited out of high school and college. I have wanted this trade for months but I would take it a step further and throw Harris’s contract in and add Ray Allen. He’s still got a lot in the tank and it wouldn’t hurt to have the all time leader in 3 pointers teaching our young guys even if it is just for a year

  9. KCJones says:

Um, ok. Celtics thought they could trade Rondo for Chris Paul earlier this year. Chris Paul is arguably better than Deron Williams (at least his hype is greater), and we got:

Devin Harris (decent replacement at D-Will’s position, drafted 5th in 2004)
Derrick Favors (young promising #3 draft pick – 2010)
Enes Kanter (young promising #3 draft pick – 2011)
Golden State’s first round draft pick (protected 1-7 – 2012)

Let’s count them. FOUR assets. FOUR Lottery picks. THREE top-5 draft picks (altho Devin Harris was a known commmodity).

Now, do you REALLY think the Celtics are only going to ask for Devin + CJ or Devin + Millsap?? NO. Celtics are going to value Rondo AS high or HIGHER than D-Will. So let’s see what we’d have to give them comparable to what we got for D-Will from the Nets:

    Devin Harris
Enes Kanter (our rookie #3 pick)
Our lottery pick this year (which will hit the lottery and become a #3 pick in the draft).
Golden State’s pick (let’s say it ends at 12th).

Now, would we REALLY want to give all that up for Rondo? I don’t. And that’s what Danny Ainge is going to be asking for him.

  10. Jake says:

I like rondo it would be a great move but we need a good power forward millsap is awsome he is part of our sucsses this season so i dont see rondo resign with us with out milsap

  11. Steven says:

I think the major thing wrong with this trade is that the Celtics are going to want a hell of a lot more than Millsap and CJ Miles for Rondo the way he is playing right now.

Secondly that trade would leave us 3 players in Al, Derrick and Enes that all like to play the post. Although Millsap has being playing a horrible offensive game of late he is only one of the 4 that has any real range. When he has his game on he is the one that can shoot from anywhere. Getting rid of Millsap will leave us with 3 bigs with very similar games. As of now Kanter is still trying to develop a rhythm, Favors is still trying to develop a go to shot that isn’t on the same side of the floor that Al tends to take up space in.

I don’t think that trade works for the Jazz. Don’t get me wrong I would love to see Rondo here. I don’t think his attitude would be a bad fit. The Jazz need a defensive minded PG that can dish out assists, and it doesn’t have enough players with attitude. We have a young team still finding their way in the NBA and the only players that have any attitude of note is our backup PG Watson, Millsap’s – whose chip on the shoulder seems to have gone missing the past couple of months, Bell – who might be here for one more season, Howard – who might leave at the end of this season, and Hayward who should be one of the leaders on this team in a couple of years if things go as planned. Hayward is going to need some help. Rondo could bring some of that arrogance that this team will need. A bit of nastiness on the court by Rondo might just bring the likes of Favors out of his shell. Good teams have attitude and arrogance and a desire to win. Bad teams have skill and potential that never quite gets fulfilled due to having that missing ingredient.

As I said though I don’t think this trade works for the Celtics, they will want a lot more than this. It doesn’t work for the Jazz. It would address a huge need in the PG position but it would leave us with 3 bigs with similar games and two players in Jefferson and Favors which for the moment have very similar games. It might make us even more predictable than we already are, and for at least a few months anyway it would leave us with two young bigs who are still finding their shooting boots. Wins during that time would be hard to come by.

I think the Celtics need a centre but I’m not convinced they would take big Al back after giving him up years before. We would also still need to address our need for a more balanced outside game in the summer.

  12. KG does not post up. Jermaine does not post up. Perkins did not get offense run through him. Bass does not post up. Not the same offense

  13. I agree that it may very well take more than this. I would be willing to put in both of our first rounders this year to sweeten the pot. As I have watched trades over the years, I noticed that generally quality big men trade for higher quality guards. Quality Power Forwards are harder to come by than quality Point Guards. That is why I think that this trade makes some sense.

I don’t buy all of the talk about a players attitude being a chief consideration when putting a team together. These are professional athletes. The most frustrating thing that they deal with is losing, especially losing on a team that looks like it is going to continue to lose. Rondo is having issues in Boston because everyone who has paid any attention knows that they are past their competitive run and are not going to be competing any time soon. What truly great player wouldn’t want out? As for whether or not he re-signs that is going to be up in the air for any player, however Rondo has 4 more years on his deal which means that we would at least get him for that long, and if we are successful, as I believe we will be (especially if we let our young studs play more minutes) he will want to stay.

  14. @Steven – I do not think our men need an outside shot. I would much rather that they stay as close to the rim as possible. I think that a 3 big rotation that gives each of them roughly 32 minutes a game would be awesome.

  15. Steven says:

I agree that those players I mentioned may not necessarily need an outside shot. As long as they get more points a night than the number of shots they shoot up that would be fine. But the team as a whole needs balance. The team needs more of a threat outside, otherwise we will be a very easy team to predict and defend against.

  16. Zach says:

I sick of explaining my opinion on this so I’ll just say this: Rondo has a bad attitude. He threw a remote through the TV at the team practice facility, criticizes his teammates when his team loses, and wants as much attention as possible. He’d do us more harm than good if he came and he wouldn’t stay anyway. We need outside shooting. That is his #1 weakness. What’s wrong with so many Jazz fans? Why do you love Rondo so much over all the other PGs in the NBA. We need outside shooting consistent wing scorers. JJ Redick would be a much better option for improving this team.

  17. Browncoat says:

@Zach I think everyone understands that point of view. Rondo is not a shooter and he shouldn’t pretend to be.

But you don’t think a point guard that makes shots easier for his teammates and rebounds to help our bigs would be valuable to this team? Maybe a point guard that can play defense would be of value to us? That is exactly what we need. Millsap and Al have had problems rebounding and forcing up some bad shots to close games Rondo could help with that.

Everything I have heard is that he doesn’t want attention for himself, he doesn’t care about personal accolades, he just wants to win another championship.

Hey look another Milsap for Rondo trade blog. Havnt seen 10,000 of these already. You would think people could post in the blogs that were already up.

  19. Jay Ericksen says:

One problem we have in these trade blogs is that the players that are always mentioned obviously have the talent . But what about having the desire to play in Utah where there are no real bright lights and tv exposure that big market teams seem to have . We have gotten a few of the players that we wished for and they have not taken us to the promise land . I think that is due in large part with not wanting to be here .
I think that Big Al , Harris , Cj , Watson , Hayward , Bell , and even Evans all truley wants to be here . I still think that Milsap wants to stay but his play has been alittle deceiving with that . I am not sold on Favors for some of his lack of desire . I am not sure with everyone else either .
Anyway my point is that I am not so sure that we would get the same Rondo that you are all talkin about because of Utah being a smaller market team . But that is just my feelins , I could be way off base too for sure .
That is my 10 cents worth . Go Jazz !!!!
