He’s not a key player scoring wise. Thats not who he is. I don’t ever see him turning into a 15 – 20 points a night type of player. He’s capable of doing that here and there but he is a key player for the other things he does in the game on a nightly basis which allows others to do their thing.
i belive he can be a key scorer
Hayward strikes me as a very dynamic player. I think by the end of the season he’ll average 10 points, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks.
If Hayward had scored his points as a result of the Jazz set offense, then I think your point has validity. His scores were because of great defense that led to easy offense AND remember Portland has a sieve for a defense on the road.
However, I believe Hayward can be a major contributor if he is generally the initiator of the Jazz set offense. He can set up his teammates—better than Harris. He can dish. When he does that successfully, then things will open up for him for easy baskets. That’s how it was at the end of last season. Run the offense through Hayward after pushing up the ball up for a fast basket.
I see him more like an ak. He can put up points on the board but he isn’t a main go to guy on the team. I think he will average between 12 and 15 points a game get about 4 assist a game with a few rebounds. He wont be a defensive threat like ak is but he will get the team invovled like ak did, and get a few more points then ak did.
What happened to the rest of the game. We played more than 7 games. Old article?
Don’t get me wrong Jason I believe he is a key player and some days he will be a key scorer for the team. But I don’t see him as a Millsap, Al or DWill type of player where you can rely on him to put the scores up most nights of the week. He has the capabilities to score but most nights early in games he defers shooting duties to his teammates. What I do like about him, is like Milsap he will make himself available in the 4th quarter. There has been a number of games this season where he hasn’t done so much scoring wise in the first half of the game but come the 4th quarter he has made a couple of key buckets or free throws, combined with the energy to block and steal at the other end of the floor thats where he is becoming a key player.
