“Dallas Mavericks point guard Derek Fisher will be waived from the team at his request, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports. The Mavericks later announced the move. Fisher signed with the Mavericks on Nov. 29 and had been a good fit in his short time with the team, but he did not like being away from his family in Los Angeles and asked Dallas owner Mark Cuban to respect his wishes and facilitate this move. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation, said Fisher has already left the team and is in Los Angeles rehabilitating the right knee that he injured on Tuesday in a game against Philadelphia.” USA Today
Most of you probably don’t remember when Fish told Larry that he needed to be closer to his (already completed) daughter’s cancer treatment (in New York) and be let out of his Jazz contract, only to sign with the HATED Lakers.
Well…He’s done it again. This time El Cubano gets the privilege of paying FishFace a full 1 year contract for a couple of weeks of work.
I guess he has his halo all polished up again, with another choir boy excuse and a book on what a great guy he is.
At least the Jazz got out of his untradeable contract and allowed D-Wil space and time to grow and develop. So, it ended up a win-win for Fish, who got to go back to the HATED Lakers and his family, and the Jazz, who unloaded some excess baggage.
But, what does El Cubano get out of this? He gets the privilege of paying Fish for a couple of weeks service at the yearly rate.
Ahhhh, he’s done it again!

HANGTIME SOUTHWEST — “Derek Fisher, signed by the Dallas Mavericks just after Thanksgiving, didn’t make it to Christmas.
The Mavs announced Saturday that they waived the 38-year-old point guard just two days after he strained his right patellar tendon. The knee injury, which the team did not believe to be serious, is not the reason the team let him go. Fisher, who instantly took over as the starting point guard ahead of Darren Collison, asked to be released to return to his family in Los Angeles last week.
A league source said that when Fisher signed with Dallas in late November, he had a handshake agreement with Mavs owner Mark Cuban that he would be granted his release if Fisher deemed it necessary due to his family situation. The personal family reason for Fisher’s departure is not clear.
While playing for the Utah Jazz in 2007, Fisher’s infant daughter Tatum suffered from retinoblastoma, a childhood cancer of the eye. Fisher’s journey from a New York hospital, where Tatum had a tumor removed, to Salt Lake City to return for a playoff game, was well-chronicled and became the heartwarming story of the postseason.
When Fisher completed his first practice with the Mavs on Nov. 30, he did not sound like a man with concerns that could drag him away from a 17th season after he was not signed by a team during the offseason.
“I told the guys today, ‘This is not a pit stop. This is not kind of the final whatever before I decide to retire soon,’ ” Fisher said. “I’m here to give everything I have to help this team right now and continue to build as we go through this season.”
On Saturday, Fisher issued a statement that said the knee injury will keep him out at approximately two weeks and coupled with the “the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home.”
Fisher praised Cuban for his support and for granting his release. He also thanked coach Rick Carlisle and his Mavs teammates: ”I have made decisions in the past, leaving money and opportunity on the table, and I will need to do that again. My family is my priority and that is where I choose to be. I won’t close the possibility that I will play again, however for now my family and being close to them remains the priority.”
It leaves the Mavs where they were 14 games into the season when Carlisle opted to bench Collison and the Mavs decided to sign Fisher. The Mavs were 7-7 at the time and now stand at 12-15 entering Sunday’s game at San Antonio.
Dallas waived Delonte West prior to the season and have used Dominique Jones behind Collison. Roddy Beaubois, once considered a point guard of the future, has mostly been buried at the end of the bench.
The Mavs have had a revolving door since West’s release. They’ve signed and then subsequently released Eddy Curry, Troy Murphy and Fisher.”
That’s $1,113,560 for 9 games or $123,728.88/game. To put that in an hourly wage of $292,272.96/hour.
As Mr Magoo, who I’m sure none of you remember, would say:
“Ah, Ah Waldo, you’ve done it again!”

That’s D-Bag Fisher for ya. Ultimate coattail rider who leaves teams when he can’t sniff out immediate victory. Props to the Thunder for not resigning him.
But fear not. Once this venomous serpent sniffs out another opportunity, his family problems will mysteriously disappear.
Derrick Fisher is an absolutely despicable human being.
What are the odds on him working his way over to Miami?
The reason he stuck with the Thunder was the chance for a ring. I guess when he saw the former world champion Mavircks in worse shape than the Jazz, he decided to bolt.
No ring, but full salary for a pittance of work.
If he was really that concerned about the possibility of leaving and soooo altruistic, he could have signed a non guaranteed contract, which would actually “leave the money on the table”, instead of in his pocket, when he left, but that’s our boy!
So, he’s back on the players union dole.

what a goon, not surprised
“Fisher has long been known to be very tight with his family, but it’s funny how he finds himself longing for his LA home now that he is on a team that appears to be going nowhere. I’m sure that’s just a coincidence. When he signed to play with the Oklahoma City Thunder last season for a stretch-drive to the playoffs being homesick never seemed to be an issue. He never complained about missing home as the Thunder went all the way to the NBA Finals.” Fort Worth Star-Telegram
Hmmmm, do they read my blog in Fort Worth?

the way the clips are playing, im thinking his “family” is now closer to the other side of the arena.
what a weird person…
He may also be thinking the HATED Lakers need a back up PG, but the Clippers are probably not looking for PGs, they need another big.
Jazzaholic
the clips need a big, we need a pg and fisher needs an la team hmmm
I sent the D-bag a tweet that went as follows:
“@DerekFisher we’re all just hoping no one signs you after. Here’s to hoping! Don’t sign with teams if you can’t commit. It’s getting old.”
I doubt he’ll ever even read it, but if he does, I hope it gives him a glimpse of how fans view him. What a dumb sack of crap he is.
It’s just that he acts so sanctimonious and puts the spin on everything to make himself out this angel with a glowing halo.
Actually, he did the Jazz a favor when he left and the league wouldn’t have approved it without his lies. So, it turned out win-win. The Jazz got out of an untradeable contract, salary cap relief and an open roster spot. Fish got to go back to the Lakers, get a couple of rings and live in LA LA land.
It was just him acting like sainthood should be bestowed upon him for his obvious lies.
The thing that hurt was going to the HATED Lakers. Any team but them would have been fine. It just rubbed Jazz fans noses in it.
