The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Ahhhh, turn about is indeed fair play.
The Blazers have offered up a couple of “poison pills”, Millsap and Matthews, in the last couple of years to the Jazz.
Finally, the Timber Wolves did the job of forcing a “poison pill” down the throat of the Blazers!
The Wolves signed RFA Batum four-year deal at $46.4 million, with bonuses, that could bring it to $50 million, which the Blazers had to swallow hard and accept.
That’s about double what the Blazers wanted to spend and will play havoc with their salary cap for years to come.
Last spring I wrote about wishing the Jazz had the cap space to give the Blazers some of their own medicine. Fortunately the Wolves were at the Blazers doorstep on July 1st, howling at the moon and wanting blood.
Billionaire Paul Allen has been micromanaging for years, causing all kinds of problems internally and externally. I wonder if Jerry could see the writing on the wall and decided he didn’t want a bunch more problems to deal with, when he turned down the Blazer’s coaching job.
Thanks for the Wrath of Kahn.

Nice!
Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the assist Wolves..
thats great news, although I have never really worried about the Blazers like the nuggets or thunder in our division … because of Paul Allen’s annual front office shake-up.
Jazzaholic, am I missing something? If the T Wolves signed Batum for an absurd amount, how does that cripple Portland?
This is good news , thank you sharing sharing , these sites are in support of their store

Bout time. Blazers have been screwing us over for years with this crap. I tip my hats to the wolves and I look forward to more years of the Blazers being mediocre and not making the playoffs.
It’s about time Karma caught up with that organization.
@Kory, it cripples them because the Blazers matched the offer sheet for Batum that he signed for the T wolves. Batum was a restricted free agent and signed the deal with the wolves. With restricted free agents the previous team can either match the offer within 3 days penny for penny or let them go to the other team.
Batum is a good player, but that contract just got ridiculous.
Their are a bunch of ridiculous contracts out there. Look at McGee’s deal today
McGee’s contract is almost as hilarious as some of his “highlights”. I swears thats the only NBA player you might ever see dunk on his own basket or blatantly goal tend and beat his chest and get all pumped about it…
So Portland matched the offer and he’s staying there?
Portland matched the ridiculous offer. Which is good, because now they can’t spend it elsewhere.
KC already answered the signing and matching of Batum, because he was a RFA, kept him in Portland at about double his worth.
Steve Popper: Landry Fields on MSG with the best line of the Lin departure – “Poison pill? That’s a tic tac for James Dolan.”
It’s a tic-tac for billionaire Paul Allen too, but, with the new CBA, it screws up what they can do in the future with the cap, tax and exemptions, which helps the Jazz.
Remember when the Jazz extended AK, and it screwed up their ability to improve the team? That was under the old, less punitive CBA. It’s even worse now.
Teams locking in players at more than they are worth, on long term deals, will be quite restricted in future years, even if it’s only keeping out of the luxury tax.
Right now the Jazz have great flexibility, no long term commitments, lots of expiring contracts and oodles of cap space next year. Plus, the young core of talent they have, puts them in an ideal position.
Now if they just had a bunch of extra draft picks lying around.
