Meet
Time for Shooters

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So we need outside shooting to spread the floor. If we land Mo Williams, that would help us a little. Just looking at shooters that are un-restricted free agents with good a 3 point %, we have some options:
OJ Mayo – 37.5% career 3-pointers. Plays good perimeter defense too.
Ersan Illyasova – shot 45% from 3 last year. And he rebounds well.
Steve Novak – shot 47% from 3 last year, but may be a bit one dimensional.
Danny Green – shot 43% from 3 last year. Could be a solid pick-up if the price is right.
Shannon Brown – 36% from 3 last year.
Nick Young – 37% career shooting for 3’s.
Willie Green – 44% from 3 land last year, but a bit inconsistent overall.
Again, these guys are all un-restricted so there isn’t a reason we couldn’t go after any of them. Who do you like? Like many of you I like Illyasova, but I also like Mayo a lot, however we’re starting to get overloaded at the guard position. He would bring some good perimeter toughness though. Anyone not on the list you like? There are a couple more guys that are restricted that I would add to the list. We must get somebody to spread the floor.
Of course signing one of these guys could put us over the cap if Mo ends up coming. We may need to work a trade to facilitate a signing.

That is exactly what is bothering me soooo much. We could address our shooting problem in the ways @Shane has mentioned, but instead we are going after Mo Williams, and have yet to trade anyone, so unless these guys sign for less than 3M, we will not even get one of these guys.
And Harris, Mo, Al will be gone next year, and we missed out on free agency this year retarded the growth of our youth, and got no picks or assets in return.
I think the plan is to retain a lot of cap space for next year’s offseason (2013). There’s going to be some marquee free agents (Dwight, CP3), and probably a ton of decent guys, too. And it will be the year the new harsher CBA penalties kick in for being over the luxury tax, so a lot of teams are going to be looking to unload players to a team with cap space.
Anyway, I think that’s KOC’s play, and signing free agents this year would interfere if that’s the plan, because they’ll want more than just a year contract. So anyone you sign right now you have to be sure is going to be a long-term fixture for this team.
It’s a lot tougher than everybody thinks. I bet if anyone on this sight was the GM the Jazz would win the Championship next year. Too bad we have a chump like KOC running the show who has no idea how to run or build a team.
@brandonbrinton, Im with you. Its like getting spare tires for a cross country road trip. No bueno.

Look at that….geez, would be nice to have some money to throw at Batum….would be nice to stick it to Portland and get Batum..oh well we got Al for this year, home court advantage is a lock.
I was being sarcastic. I think KOC is great.
Hahaha. And so long as we keep Al home court is a lock.
Jazz now have some more good shooters. They have a shooting point guard in Williams and I think Burks Murphy Hayward and Caroll can be pretty good shooters or they can be in just a little while. That leaves us with some shooting needed in the bigs that’s where Ilyasova comes in.
I’ve always wanted to see Shannon Brown come to Utah. He would give us a shooter, slasher like we haven’t seen since Brewer. He can get up, and you have to respect his shot.
I think KOC is great also. He said(via David Locke) that Derrick Favors was our only player that could draw interest for a top 5 pick. I knew that this draft was highly valued but I thought we could maybe get an 11 for Millsap but I doubt it after hearing that. I think we add Kyle Korver in free agency with the MLE and then pull off one trade involving like watson and bell as a cash dump then I think we will go into the season without trading Al or Paul. But instead do something at the deadline. We are lucky. This is an exciting time to be a Jazz fan. I will be in Mexico for the next 2 years but hopefully I come back to a powerhouse.
Oh and I will buy everyone on this site dinner if we can get Ilyasova to come be a backup in SLC after a career year. We can only offer the MLE and a backup PF position. I will put money that it doesnt happen. He had a 21 PER and averaged 13 and 9. He really exploded at the end of the season and his averages dont do it justice.
