Meet
Too Many in the Rotation???
Posted by: Shane on February 19th, 2012
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I know this is a lock-out shortened, condensed schedule season, but I’m beginning to wonder if we have too many parts and pieces in the equation. Case in point, Hayward plays terrific opening minutes for the Jazz against the Rockets (the offense seems more active when he’s on the floor), but we don’t see him again till the 2nd half where he has limited minutes again. Josh Howard and CJ are eating into his minutes too much.
Favors is another issue. Millsap has struggled recently, but is also a key piece to many of the Jazz victories this season. Its hard to justify cutting back on Millsap’s minutes, but Favors has to get more playing time somehow. He’s raw, but he needs playing time to develop.
As a side note, Jazz PG’s are getting worked. I know its not entirely their fault (switches, pick & roll D, etc), but something seems off. Harris is hit and miss on his energy level, Watson is hurt, which limits him defensively and his shot hasn’t been much of a threat this year. Jazz have some questions to answer at PG.

I would like to see a 9 man rotation.
Keep the starters the same, but give almost all the bench minutes to Watson, Burks, Favors, and Kanter at their respective positions.
I’m all for cutting CJ and Howard’s minutes.
Did you see Howard not make the pass on the fast break that he should have and commit the offensive foul?
Did you see CJ commit two stupid fouls in a row on the jump shooter right after Raja’s three cut it to two points and jump start Houston’s game-finishing run?
I’m over Chucker J Miles and his terrible basketball IQ
I think we need to give howard a fair shot. To me getting hurt shortened nba season no preseason and not playing much last year he needs to just take some time to get everything back. He doesn’t make to many stupid plays and, its not fair to get mad at a guy because he can’t hit shots. Cj I agree after seeing what happend out their im done with him we can just cut him. If any team watched this game they aren’t going to want him as is. Paul needs to play better to sure he scored the ball but, where was the rebounds and d. To many in the rotation I don’t think is a problem.corbin throws players out there hoping for a spark or get something flowing out there and, he doesn’t get anything so he throws anther gy out there looking for it if anything he should start pulling tinsley and evans off the bench. Because not to many players come ready to play alot of the time.
@KC – Rather thsn cutting their minutes, can we just cut them all together?
there only one problem, Hayward cant play a whole game night after night with no breaks. We need a SF before you can cut their minutes. Same problem at the PG, who is going to play? Watson is a solid backup, but really shouldnt be playing long stretches. He isnt a starter and Harris isnt playing like a starter.
the only solid starting guys, SAP and Al. Hayward is almost there. That leaves two spots.. Bell is solid but is getting old and his numbers are solid backup numbers.
solid backups, Kanter, Favors, Burks, Bell, and Watson. two of which play the same position.
Holes? Starting PG, starting SF (Hayward is a SG), Backup SF.. Our holes effect the team as a whole. can drive a car without rubber on the rims but its a bumpy ride.. thats the utah jazz.
Howard does absolutely nothing to help this team when he’s on the court. He needs a good three or four straight DNPCD’s to send him a message. CJ made some good blocks on defense, but was still his usual, dumb-shot-taking, dumb-foul-making, awful self.
I agree 100000% with Jason’s 9-man rotation. I’d rather lose with Hayward and Burks getting experience than having to watch Howard hog the ball and/or the same CJ trainwreck over and over.
Nothing good howard at least plays defence and get a few assist for his position and minutes he plays.
I really hate Devin Harris’s minutes. Some not all but some of these guys get minutes due to performance. Devin starts off good then disapears. Earl was ineffective tonight. Devin doesn’t seem to be able to earn more minutes only lose them.
AS USUAL NO MENTION OF TINSLEY, HE IS FAST SMART AND A GOOD BALL HANDLER, I WOULD STILL LIKE TO SEE WATSON START BUT IF VERYONE IS SO CONVINCED THAT HE IS A GOOD PLAYER COMING OFF THE BENCH, THATS FINE, THEN START TINSLEY, HE IS GOOD ENOUGH TO START FOR US HE PROVED IT WHEN WATSON AND HARRIS WERE BOTH HURT,,,I DON’T KNOW HOW MANY TIMES I NEED TO SAY IT,,GET RIDE OF HARRIS,,HE IS DOING ABSALOUTLEY NOTHING GOOD FOR US 2 DECENT GAMES ALL YEAR AGAINST TO CRAPPY TEAMS ISN’T JUSTIFIABLE IN KEEPING HIM..WAKE UP O’CONNER
Dude, your caps lock key just owned you and made you look like an internet newb.
Didn’t we just sign a new SF in Carroll? Why not play Evans at SF? Seriously, have you ever thought to yourself ‘man, we really shouldn’t be playing Evans, I can’t believe he just did _______ stupid thing. ‘? I’ve honest neverseen anything from Evans to make me think that. Totally opposite, in fact. He’s wowed me with dunks and swats. But I question wtf CJ is doing on the court at least twice a game after he inevitably does something idiotic.
Evans and Carroll over CJ and Howard. Tinsley over Harris.
Hopefully we’ll trade all three of them away, because I think we’d be a better team simply by addition by subtraction
@brandon & @kc
You both make excellent points. Ive been frustrated most of the season about tinselys minutes. hes the only true point gaurd we have. The guy scores 9pts, 12asst, 4 rbs, & 1 stl in 33 min. When he hadnt played a game all year. And he gets about 4 min in all the games combined since then.
.How is harris and even earl watson getting more minutes than him? The job at pg is to set an offense up and set his players up. Team assists was a big reason we had a win streak in january (& opsposing player injuries) .
I dont know why millsap and evans havent gotten a t
ry at the SF spots. Our sf position obviously doesnt demand an outside threat. Sap and evans are quick rnough to gaurd
