Lakers getting stronger again? Jazz need improvement to become powerhouse.

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So if you haven’t heard yet the Lakers are going to land Chris Paul in a three team deal that will send Pau Gasol to Houston Lamar Odom to New Orleans, and the Hornets also receive Kevin Martin Goran Dragic, and Luis Scola. I know at the moment that helps the Jazz against the Lakers due to Pau Gasol being one of the biggest reasons they had so much trouble with LA, but it is obvious what they are going to do the Lakers are one of the biggest teams in the hunt for Dwight Howard, and with a big 3 in LA similar to Miami’s big 3 the Jazz would have no where to go I mean lets face it we had trouble with Gasol how hard do you think it will be for the young Jazz if we have to compete with CP3, and Superman Dwight Howard? not to mention Kobe Bryant is still in LA for X amount of years. So I would like to issue a challenge to the front office lets try to get in this race the Jazz have never really gone after any big names we have always drafted them, and have gone no where we develop them they get a big head, and become rude cocky players, and leave. I am tired of seeing LA get on sports center because they have the ability to get all these names, and the only way the Jazz can get on there is if our head coach who has been here forever steps down. How nice would it be for us as fans of this state, and this team if we turned on sports center, and saw the Jazz got a big name superstar? So find Dwight Howard, offer him the biggest contract, and make it almost impossible for him to say no.
Jazz for life!!

I’d like to know how you know that the Jazz have never gone after a big name. Just because they do not sign with us, does not mean we don’t make offers to them. We are a small market team and we don’t just spend money like we are the government mint and we are printing money for company bailouts.
I’m sure they make offers, but its Utah.
That gives them Bynum, Kobe, Paul. I can see how Paul helps Bynum, but I’m not sure about it helping Kobe….
Also, they gave up both their power forwards in Gasol and Odom….now who’s their PF AND their sixth man off the bench?
Are they still going to go for a Howard trade with Bynum? I don’t know if they have enough to trade now that Pau and Odom are gone…..
First of all, there’s no way the Lakers are getting Dwight now. They don’t have anybody that Orlando would take in a trade for him. Bynum and Artest? No way.
Second, If Dwight wants out of Orlando I wonder what our chances would be of being able to resign him at the end of the season when he becomes a free agent? I don’t think our chances are good.
I do wish the Jazz had more balls for stuff sometimes.
How exactly did this new CBA restore ANY competitive balance?… bull!@#$%. I’m almost done with the NBA.
wow well i think this is a really stupid move by the lakers. I am not to worried about the lakers. They way overpaid kobe and the can’t trade him. Do you guys remember how old he was looking last year? Kobe will be good but he will never be Kobe again. Great PG are much less threatening then Great big men.
I like it. I dont think it makes the Lakers any better and it makes the Rockets (our competition) alot worse.
I know Chris Paul will help the Lakers, but giving up both Gasol AND Odom? There goes their size advantage over us! The problem is, they could still end up getting Dwight Howard, and that would really, really suck.
And the Lakers getting Howard IS possible, very possible. They trade Bynum, a couple other guys, and some draft picks for Howard and one of Orlando’s terrible contracts. Orlando will only do it if they feel they have no chance at keeping Howard, which they probably don’t… so they might as well get a solid big in Bynum and some draft picks, and the opportunity to unload Gilbert Arenas’ contract (which is so ridiculous, it makes AK’s look good) or one of their other bad contracts, like Jason Richardson’s
As far as I remember, we have only drafted on superstar we have ever drafted that left on his own free will was Karl Malone. MVP, 2 finals, 2nd all time leading scorer, etc. Other than that you have Stockton who retired here, and D Will who was traded.
Next, how can you possibly think Dwight Howard would want to come to Utah? If he was interested I would bet any team would make room for him. But seriously, you think Dwight Howard would rather sign a max deal in Utah where he can play with a young, unproven team in a small market and cold climate vs. playing in LA with Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul, who would already be a contender, in the arguably the biggest sports market for endorsements, and has a heritage of rings? I highly doubt it. So yeah, the Jazz actually might make offers to these guys but they don’t have interest here.
I feel your pain and frustration though. I wish we could get another top 10 superstar. Hopefully we will cultivate one with one of our young guys.
David Stern has blocked the trade! This is crazy!
Whoa, you’re right. Looks like this trade is off
MUAHAHAHA!
This is unbelievably unprecedented… I can’t even imagine the backlash that’s on its way. Wow…
I honestly think that deal would have hurt the Lakers. Like every says, guards don’t win championships. They were giving up 2 bigs for a guard. Not smart in the West. Awesome to see it was blocked though. Suck it Flakers!
Yeah… but they still had Bynum to offer for Dwight.
I wouldn’t be all that worried about Kobe(old), Chris Paul(fragile) & Bynum(mental)… but throw Howard in there and we’ve got trouble.
They wont get Howard, at least not through a trade. Bynum is nowhere near a fair trade for Dwight. They would have had to throw someone else in, who else would they have had other than Kobe? Now that the Paul deal has been block, though, they might be able to get him.
They would have just pulled in some other team, like they did with the rockets, that has the pieces the Magic wan’t.
Ah heck, lets trade trade trade. Jefferson for Howard. Then Okur’s expiring contract, and Bell for Deron Williams. Then you can have your supposed superstar team aye?
Dwill/Harris/Burks
Burks/Hayward/Miles
Hayward/Millsap/Miles/Evans
Favors/Millsap/Kanter/Evans
Howard/Kanter
Or however you want to line it up. I say title by next yr with repeats. LOL
Noooooootttttttt. Wont see it. Be happy we are talking basketball again.
The NBA just blocked the trade!: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5irM8PVi8gh81eb_QU7kXcjGBcPaQ?docId=61e74999e84248c28a9a84dd60e9631c
I’m a little confused why any of you would think small market teams like the JaZz would every be able to compete with the big market teams. Do you live in a fantasy world? Will Exxon moblie give away gas for free? Will you get excellent health care for free? Will the US government care about the down trodden and poor? Get real and deal with the fact the MONEY will always be the controlling factor in everything in America and be happy if the JaZz ever get team that can compete……
I’m sorry jazzman… but what in the hell are you talking about?
Hey Jazzman do you know what I was thinking? I was thinking maybe we are an NBA team, and these guys in NBA free agency play in the NBA so maybe I was thinking just maybe the Jazz would stop being cheep, and offer the man an NBA contract you know because the Utah Jazz are an NBA team not a D-League so you tell me why not? The Jazz have money, and they should use it.
Trade blocked by David Stern!!! Chris Paul not going to the Lakers. That actually makes me really happy!
Come on guys. Seriously? Its not a matter of going after these free agents. I guarantee you every single GM has called about Paul and Howard. You have to realize that the reality of the situation is Utah will likely NEVER land a top 10-15 talent via free agency. We do it through the draft. That’s how every small market team does it. We’re better off focusing on the draft and young player development, rather than acting like we have chance in hell of signing a big F.A. What makes you think Orlando would trade Howard for Jefferson and anyone else on our team? Have you heard the other offers out there?
Also, I hope the league allows the trade to happen. Can you imagine facing Luke Walton and Derrick Caracter in the front court for our first game, as opposed to Gasol and Odom? (Bynum is suspended for first 5 games of season).
CP3 excels with spot up shooters, pick and pop bigs, or pick and oop bigs. Kobe struggles as a spot up shooter, and Bynum isn’t an ally oop type big that CP3 is used to playing with. I really hope this trade happens. It definitely makes the Lakers worse AND I don’t think that they have the pieces to get Howard without Gasol and Odom.
Here’s the real conspiracy theory: Stern vetoed the trade because it wasn’t actually good for the Lakers…o.O! (Kobe made a call…)
Kobe, CP3, Bynum = the three bum knees.
Hmmmm, never thought about that KC. Ya think that’s what happened?
