Is Calderon for sale too ? 17 pts 14 assists 10 rebounds O turnover tonight …
we all know that…
@Henri, that was a good game for him! He pretty much won the game for them… I’m not sure who we want as our point guard. Do we want an exiting one in the league or do we want to draft one??
As long as Jazz get something good back in return and not just trash. I too am tired of Watson, Tinsley, Foye guzziling down minutes with nothing in return. These kids could not do any worse..
I think Foye needs to be like a Steve Novak… Come off the bench, get menial minutes, and for him to just be very effective in the amount of minutes he gets. If he got 10-15 min. off the bench and made 3-4 shots, 2-3 threes, I’d LOVE IT!!!
They have been for sale all year. Just no good offer has come in yet. Better offers come in closer to the trade deadline.
I’m surprised all the hate foye gets. I think he’s a better all around player than korver, and korver didn’t get any hate. Is it just because you think foye shouldn’t start? Who should then? GH? No cuz he needs touches and is tearing it up off the bench. We are lucky to have foye. I think hes shooting over 40% 3 pt.
Most people dislike Foye, because they believe he takes minutes away from Burks.
I actually like Foye quite a bit, he’s the kind of guy we were needing desperately the last couple of years. BUT there is absolutely no question he is getting too many minutes.
Foye is good, but he should not be getting more than 15 minutes a game. To have him in our starting lineup just goes to shows how poor of a head coach Tyrone Corbin is.
Foye is just a one step better Korver IMO. I think he makes sense if he’s on the court with Hayward, because Hayward can then guard the SG and Foye the PG. But Foye’s not a great PG, and then who’s your PG? And while I’m ok with Hayward handling the ball and running the offense, it does up our turnovers from what I’ve seen.
Foye’s a lot like Al in this regard. You love him in there in the end of games for his shooting. You hate him in there in the end of games for his defense. And Foye and Al both, if their shot isn’t falling, they’re basically useless on the court at that point.
Personally, I think you can’t have TWO defensively deficient guys in there at the same time at the end of games. It’s hard enough with one.
I know the offensive numbers wouldn’t be that great with a lineup of Kanter, Favors, Marvin, DeMarre (playing shooting guard ala Tony Allen of Memphis), and Hayward (playing point), but I wonder what that group would be like defensively?
Man, I say get Calderon now and get the pg of the future in the offseason via draft or sign-and-trade. He would make a world of difference for our ball movement. Watching him last night was incredible. I think we could keep Mo, and move him to the 2 where Randy has been playing. I think Mo is an upgrade to a very similar player in Foye. I just don’t think he is the pg we need.
Interesting stat I read in Marc Steins power rankings: Utah ranks No. 23 in defensive efficiency and allows 106 points per 100 possessions when Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap anchor the frontcourt. When it’s anchored by Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter? Just 95.3 points.
Ill believe it when I see it, KOC.
@ nick knows all. Who do you start at sg?
@ Jason I’d love to see that line up!! They’d score, offense would be kanter and gh . DMC worked hard on his jump shot. Plus tough, scrappy defense leads to easy offense.
I like foye starting for the time being. Even if he’s not scoring, he’s opening up the middle for al and millsap, defense has to respect his shot
@Cstyle: honestly, I think our best lineup with the pieces we have would be Tinsley @ 1, Mo Williams @ 2, Demarre Carroll @ 3, Paul Millsap @ 4, and Enes Kanter @ 5.
2nd unit would be Earl Watson @ 1, Gordon Hayward @ 2, Marvin Williams @ 3, Derrick Favors @ 4, and Al Jefferson @ 5.
I like brandon knight. Pistons have been on the skids, 7-20 and on a 5 game losing streak. They would be open for some change. Theyve got Monroe and Drummond, but Pistons are seriously lacking at the PF and they got nothing at SG.
We trade Millsap, Burks, Foye for Knight, Prince, and Jerebko. Lubricate with a pick from Jazz
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=c3ofl3l
At the PG Knights a 40% career 3pt shooter.
Then i would go Al and Watson for Paul pierce
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=brvuqw6
Which Boston might bite, they drop The expensive 17 mil contract for 2 years and get to try Al to see if he works out the rest of the season. Al likes boston so they would feel good about him in FA. Or if he sucks for them , they shed money off the books and can chase in the free agency this summer.
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=brvuqw6
Then we work with orlando. we bite one giving up hayward and pierce, and we take on the !@#$% Turkoglu contract thats only 2 years 12 mil. But we pick up Afflalo and some picks. 1 of the picks a first rnd which should be a lottery.
So we lose a draft pick and Hayward. But we drop Earl and Foye who are liabilities on either offense or defense. We actually get stronger shooting behind the arc and condense to a 7/8 rotation roster of solid players on both sides of the ball:
PG Knight/Mo/Tinsley
SG Afflalo/Prince
SF Marvin/Prince/DC
PF Favors/Jerebko/Evans
C Kanter/Favors
Jerebko at 6′10 230 is pretty solid in the post. has speed , plays D and rebounds. He also shoots 30% 3’s so he can pull the D out giving Kanter/Favors Iso.
Knight, Afflalo, Prince, Marvin, Mo Are all 40% 3 pt shooters. And a huge upgrade to perimeter D (knight, prince and Afflalo are 1 stl a game ave. each) and upgrade athletically. That puts alot of our salaries at the 3 year mark which would be about the time our lottery pick from Orlando is coming up.
I don’t understand the Foye hate either. I think it’s freaking retarded that so many people hate him because he’s taking minutes away from a guy who hasn’t proven anything. I love Alec Burks and I wish he could play more. But it isn’t the same as last year when CJ and Raja were taking his minutes. At least this year it’s a guy like Foye who has played some key 4th Quarter minutes for us that ultimately were a big part of us winning.
I understand that Foye has some major deficiencies in his play. I know he’s a defensive liability and he doesn’t seem to do much other than hit threes. But I love how Jazz Nation has ALWAYS begged for solid three point shooting, and then when we get it, everyone suddenly despises the guy because some unproven player is sitting on the bench. As much as I love Burks, I almost want the team to get rid of him just because i’m so sick and tired of all of the outrageous and senseless crap that surrounds him.
He deserves WAY more minutes than he’s getting. There’s no doubt about that. However you also have to admit that when Burks enters the game, he hasn’t given Corbin any major reasons to give him more time. He drives wildly and takes crazy off balance shots, he can’t make his free throws this year, he hasn’t played outstanding defense. Sure I understand that you need playing time to get into your groove, but I bet a lot of you that say that, would also bash Fredette on the Kings even though it’s the same situation there. I don’t care too much for Jimmer either way, but my point is that these players are PROFESSIONALS and this is their second year. Whether they average 28 mpg or 5 mpg, they need to be able to produce with what they’re given.
The problem I’ve come to see with Burks is that he doesn’t have the correct mindset to be a point guard, and he lacks the consistent outside shot to get significant minutes as a shooting guard. He might have a difficult time finding his niche in the NBA, though there isn’t any doubt that the kid can score.

I TOTALLY agree with that assessment. Right now Corbin puts in Al and Paul together for the most part and Enes and Kanter in together for the most part. With the first two, we’re strong offensively, but Al and Paul BOTH can be focal points for the frontcourt, so you’re basically wasting the offensive game of one of them. PLUS, they both have deficiencies on defense, so it makes our frontcourt soft. There’s really no ‘help defender’ down low with those two in. You get a similar but opposite effect with Enes and Favors. While Kanter and Faves have made huge offensive strides (Enes in post up game and jumpers, Favors with free throw shooting and I’ve seen a few nice spin jumper moves), they are both not ready to be the offensive focal point, so while they are awesome defensively, the offense sometimes suffers (especially since Corbin runs the same post-iso offense as they do with Al instead of switching to pick and roll and cuts, something more conducive to the athletecism of those young bigs….that’s another post tho). Your lineups put an offensive focal point on the floor at all times with a great help defender and secondary offensive threat guy, as well as TWO legit three-point shooters on each squad (MO and Marvin on the first, Foye and Hayward on the 2nd), and a ball-handler (Tinsley, Watson). I love it.
Haha I should have read the rest of the linenups better. Thought Marvin was on the 1st squad, but you have DeMarre Carrol. They give you about the same, honestly. I’ve seen DMC knock down clutch threes and play great defense, much like Marvin. Marvin can post up smaller SFs down low. On the second unit, I would put in Foye instead of Watson and have Randy bring the ball up the court and have Gordon run the offensive sets while Foye plays the off-ball guard.
trade, trade, trade it is amazing how the grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence, try going on to the other side of the fence and look back. WOW now the grass is greener on our side of the fence.
@Larry – At 13-12 with a talented team I dont think the grass is greener on this side. @Kevin – I think the anti-Foye sentiment comes from people’s disappointment with Burks playing time and Corbin’s use of Foye’s minutes. I like the idea of addition by subtraction
@ anyone who says foye should not be in the starting lineup – you are right but wrong also the reason foye was moved to the starting lineup is because hayward demands the ball in his hands more to make things happen and with jefferson on the floor it was not working to have hayward in there and thats why he was moved… When Hayward – Favors – Kanter are on the floor it is a amazing defensive unit but it did not have alot of offensive firepower but now with Kanter and Hayward starting to play how they should it is really good news
Foye is a role player. His NBA skill is outside shooting. He’s streaky, not a high assist guy, wont get alot of steals, or rebounds. but its cool because we need guys that come off the bench that can drill the 3. Same with DC . Hustle and defense. I like Foye but I dont like making him something hes not.
Come on now guys. Why trade any of our young talent for players near retirement. If we were the Jazz teams of the 90’s getting a player like Pierce or the like could put us over the top and help us win a champion ship, but as our team is currently constructed that would be a bad idea. We need young talent…A true Center and a true PG…in Come Rookie Myers Leonard and D. Collison..
