Not really he is a good spring guard in most situations. The real comment i. NOW YOU SEE WHY WE NEED BELL!!. ellis is too fast for gordan this is a team where he can match up with the 3’s better then the 2’s. Enough said.
You’re pathetic jazzman. Ellis is one of the league’s leading scorers, and always burns the Jazz, no matter who guards him. He scored 32 in the last meeting, when everyone praised Bell for how well he defended him. Tonight he scored one whole point more. Give it up. Hayward needs work, but your constant bitching isn’t going to change anything. Accept the team for what it is — young and developing — and maybe you’ll develop some more realistic perceptions.
For the record, Hayward’s line was pretty damn solid: 21, 4, & 4, with 2 steals and a block. Shot above 50%
Agree w/Tacorev. Hayward has looked solid the last 2 games and Ellis is going to get his, especially with Curry demanding a lot of attention. He’s a sophomore and will be solid for us moving forward.
Gordon played great on offensive end but, we drafted burks and have bell for players like ellis. That’s why I question gordon at the two some games. You need to put him at the 3 when we play run and gun teams like golden state
There is a reason for multiple players at multiple positions. First for rest and replacement of injured players. Next, so you can switch according to matchups. Not any except elite players can handle every matchup thrown at them, and even elite players get beaten. One game does not dictate a players ability, especially since their players were rested compared to our battle worn players.
At least you didn’t blame the loss on the refs, or the poor bench play, or any one players performance. Oops 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. You did notice his overall performance didn’t you? Did you notice the difference in play from all starters with him at the SG position, or just that an opposing player had a good night?
I agree and said earlier he played good offence I just feel against a run and gun team like lac and golden state you play more small ball and put gordon down at the 3 clippers beat him with the step back jumpers he just couldn’t get out to them in time and monta was just flat out speed hayward couldn’t keep up. But I think teams like boston chicago Miami. He should play a two and use his length to bug players like a hamilton and a wade since they play some what of a half court style Miami pushes it but slow it down as well
@Patrick I didn’t blame the lose on anything
@Taco little sensitive about Haward are we?
The JaZz never guard the three ball defensive looked like the days of Sloan last night.
When will they learn every other team (except the JaZz)in the NBA can shoot them.
God help little Hayward if they have him guard Kobe. He may never recover from the embarrassment.
Exactly which starting two guard will not burn Hayward for dozens of points??????
I would agree with Taco. You just have a grind with Hayward.GS two guards are smaller and very fast. Ellis is always on the list as one of the top scorers in the league..
jazzman your negative rippings on Hayward are getting old. We get it, you don’t like him. But most fans do, and so does the coaching staff, and the media. Hmmmm, maybe there is something to that?
I’d say it was not Hayward’s defense that was as horrific as the other half of the guard equation (not that it wasn’t bad; Hay’s defense was still pretty awful). Even though Ellis scored more points, it was Curry that truly burned us hard, converting 10 of 14 shots, getting to the line 8 times and assisting on an additional 12 buckets. Anyway, there’s no way this team has a shot present or future unless Hayward starts WORKING HARD. The kid needs to work on his lateral movement and has some serious strength and conditioning issues. Our training team needs to ride Gordon and he needs to be willing to put in the effort, otherwise he’ll often look like a confused, lost kid playing a man’s game years in the future the same way he often does now.
Hayward had a great night. Find me the team that stops Ellis, the guy is a prolific scorer. Often when you see a team in the NBA lose a close hard fought game it is followed by a hangover game. That is what happened to the Jazz last night.
“Jazzman” needs to change his name to “Lakerman” cause all his useless posts sound like a Laker fan. You rip on a young Hayward for not being able to stop Ellis? That means 95% of Shooting Guards in this league shouldn’t be playing that position……….enough said
jazzman you are an idiot… nuff said.
The guy is in his second year in the NBA. His flashes of great play like on Offense last night show the potential he has.
How bout’ some highlights?

That is potential, Last night potential. Give the kid some time he will do this all the time.
Another perhaps?

Teams can stop him his last three games he was held to 30 points total. So teams have showed they can stop and I would agree with you chris but, he had trouble with the speed of the clippers as well. So it make me wonder I still feel you got to go smaller. Burks seemed to be able to stay in front of the small fast guards and, bell has more then provwn he can do that.
As Trevor just pointed out the last three teams stopped Monte. Monte hasnt shot that well from the three point line all year long. Until Hayward was guarding him that is. I know you all want him to be “the great white hope” but he isnt going to be that. Name calling? How mature..showa how good of insights you have if you have to resort to that……the last resort of a weak mind
jazzman I can only speak for myself but I am not saying the dude is going to be an all-star. But he’s as solid as we have right now and I believe he deserves to start. Ellis averages 21 points a game. So even if he was stopped the last 3 games he must be scoring on the majority of the rest of the league. I like the fact that you ridicule Hayward for all his weaknesses but do not give him credit for all the good things he does for the team.
And just because you criticize a player, want your team to do well and not make bone head moves, dosnt make you not a fan but someone who loves his team and wants them to excel….jeez people are so sensitive when they hear things thay could turn out be true and not what they wanted. I have noticed more and more people starting to the light as well, as it were……
Yo Jazzman! Your posts would carry more substance if you had logic behind it. Simply saying, “Hayward sucks” just makes you look dumb, back it up with a better scenario if you’re going to throw that out there. Hayward, Watson, and Millsap are the scrappiest guys on our team.
Didn’t eve bother reading all these posts. God help Gordon if he has to guard Kobe? Ok… Kobe is the best player in the NBA and last season Gordon shut him down hard. Kobe isn’t a player to get shut down every game by the same person no matter who it is. Else he wouldn’t be Kobe and you would not have mentioned his name.
That’s not want for wishing, that’s fact.
He did great against kobe last year. I think he can keep up with older kobe now if kobe was 20 something there is no way hayward would be able to guard him. But kobe now he can do it. I was hopin to see raja against kobe though he always seems to get under his skin
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. But Jazzman, I need to point out, that without Hayward, we’d have lost 6-7 more games this season. Hayward has been responsible for almost 50% of our defensive stops. I mean I don’t have stats to back that up, but just from watching game after game. Hayward gets at least 3-4 deflections/blocks/steals, and those are converted into fast break points.
Hayward is going to be HUGE. Hayward and Favors have both played 1 and 1/3 seasons in the NBA. Hayward is the all around better player by far.
Oh and when Kobe Bryant literally says, “I’m pretty high on Gordon Hayward,” there might be, ya know, a little bit of substance to that claim. Everyone on this board hates Kobe [and if you don't get the h*ll out], but the guy does know a thing or two about basketball.
kobe said he was “fond” of hayward’s game
durant said hayward is good and should be starting
and jazzman wants us to believe that we believe his opinion of things instead ?!?
also to jazzman—let’s assume your premise is correct that is that hayward shouldn’t be at the 2 primarily because he is a poor defender (see your message which started this thread)–then i ask you from a defensive standpoint of the guys on this roster who would you rather have there?
Nick and John and many others. Great points. Dont let him rile you up. He got what he wanted, look at all the posts on his silly Post. And actually Favors and Hayward have played less than 1.3 seasons, with no preseason or summer league. That hurts almost worse than the little time they have had in the league. Seems that all second years are struggling, and rookies are a bit behind.
The other thing to point out is they have all played together less than a season, with no pre season and summer league. Wait till next season, we will rock..
hayward needs to be the 2 and favors needs to start. Hayward is sooooooo much better at the 2.
Wasn’t able to watch the game against the Lakers tonight. How did Hayward do?????
@Jazzman So if me wanting to see Hayward do well and succeed makes him a “great white hope” then I guess me wanting to see Jeremy Evans get more minutes, do well and succeed makes him a “great black hope”?
I really don’t like the racial overtones of your statement.
