READER VOTE: on or off the UJ360 island?
Posted by: JC on April 8th, 2011
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Simple as this, a troll walks the line and perhaps it’s time to let the moderators know if we, THE FANS, want this person left on the site.
It’s an easy process really, post your vote in the comments section. No need to explain yourself or get into a tissy fit with each other.
OPTION 1: BAN HIM
OPTION 2: LEAVE HIM BE
Oh, in case you don’t know the person with whom I am referring to, it’s this guy: http://www.utahjazz360.com/members/kanun/contributions/
Read his contributions. To me, this person really doesn’t care for the team and wants to push a pro-soccer rhetoric upon us for some reason. Good for REAL Salt Lake and their success! Can’t compare apples to oranges says I, just can’t do it.
Let’s review the steps ….
Vote:
OPTION 1: BAN HIM -or- OPTION 2: LEAVE HIM BE
Thank you and, go Jazz!

option 1
You should have reversed the options so I could say he’s a #2.
Option 1.. I enjoy this site because it seem like most of the comments are from intellegent people. The Trib site is full of six year old trollers. For instance realgm.com boards do not allow trolling. You can speak your peace but you can’t get too far out of bounds. Deseret News site is much to restrictive. I made a comment using four words that could be used any where with anyone and they struck it down. Two of the words were Thank You. This site is the best because the people want to talk with intellegent grown up people. Everyone has their own opinions, ideas, and thoughts. Let’s keep it a enjoyable site.
This is tough for me because I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinions and the opportunity to share them. So on that basis I would have to say option 2.
HOWEVER, when someone starters spouting off drivel and starts to bring racial and religious controversy into things where they have no place and in doing so has to reach extremely far, put words in others mouths, and attempts to fabricate malice or intent in another person’s opinion, then they have gone too far. So in this case I will vote a solid option 1.
Shockwave has a point, I didn’t consider the irony of voting someone as a number 2, when they are in fact a #2.
my vote: Option 1. sorry charlie but you don’t really come here to share insight. Instead you wait until the Jazz lose a game or something bad happens to post. You are what marketers would call a “Nay Sayer”
I gotta go with option 2. Seeing his posts cracks me up because he contradicts himself all the time and I love seeing everyone hate on him. (soccer sucks)
#1 ban him,
It is one thing to have an adverse opinion and share that opinion, to me he mostly just wants to cause waves in the water. Many of us including me have said things that are in complete disagreement with the topic but try to keep it civilized and use evidence to try and support our opinions. He just trolls to troll. He’s a negative poster that just attempts to instigate arguments. Not produce positive posts to look at issues through a different lens so to speak.
option 2
kids an idiot and hes always giving people something to flame besides my posts.
just messing, ban him (can you?)
Option 1 for the win
I can’t, but perhaps if we voice our opinions those who moderate will step up and do the dirty work.
I actually didn’t think he was worthy of being banned until that last little tirade when he responded to Champ’s story. I can’t blame somebody for being frustrated about their team losing, even if he was often overly-militant about it… but that whole rant was completely uncalled for and had nothing to do with Champ’s post. I’m all for banning him, but I really don’t know if that’s the answer you people are looking for. He’ll probably just come back with another user name. I’ve seen it happen several times on other blog/chat/boards
I know everyone’s frustration with this blogger and I too am annoyed and sometimes offended by his posts, but I think exiling him is walking a very fine line of freedom of expression. Has he been warned and asked to tone down the language and content of his posts? If he has been warned a couple of times and refused to make some changes in his language, then yes option 1 is probably appropriate.
Like the good old days of McCarthyism, what is the next step ??? Burn a cross on his garden, if you don’t like his posts, don’t read them, end of the story…….
French – can I just toilet paper this person? Fire seems so … aggressive.
Eh, they just need a mute button so if we wished to ignore him and his negativity we could do so. I like the freedom of speech thing too much to ban him completely.. Though I myself do not like any of his posts, I do like the freedom of posting.. That being said I vote 3, add a mute button..
you make the list of his “contributions” like you said, you have the numbers of the views, the replies, the votes, never more than 10 votes, rarely more than 10 replies, rarely less than 250 views, what makes you so sure you’re on the good side of the gun ???
Yes please get rid of him. BAN HIM
I’d like to see him and all his kin banned from this site forever. Or at least tell me where he lives
Deb brings up a good point… that before banning him, he should be warned by a moderator that he’ll be banned if he doesn’t simmer down
Not sure I’m following ya French, maybe it’s that you’re using an old metaphor on me.
On other forums I frequent, posting freely is encouraged widely, but when a troll comes a knockin’ people get a rockin’. Why give a person a voice that is merely here to be a negative turd?
That being said, I have enjoyed the freedoms of this blog and wouldn’t want to imply a witch-hunt needs to take place.
Taco and Deb – keeping it real. has this girl/guy been warned before?
Hey moderators, have you warned him/her before?
ban him
Option #1
What Patrick said about a mute button sounds good. When KSL had their opinion page they had a ” Ignore” button and those persons posts or opinions would not even come up on the page. I emailed one onf the KSL writers and asked if their comment page would ever return and he said probably not. To much hate and anti whatever was too much for them. I enjoy this site for most people are intellegent and have different opinions as it should be but not to the point of being a troller who gets a kick out of being a pain.
Ban him from the internet and Utah.
Option 1
He’s just a pro-soccer nut. RSL had success 2 years ago but you can’t bring in the GM from there and have him do a miracle here. He looks for anything he bash on that relates to the Jazz.
Ban the Jazz Basher.
Option #1. He’s gotta go.
Here’s the thing…if you read this guy’s second response to Champ’s piece, he’s issuing a direct threat of violence. Are you kidding me? We may love the Jazz (or hate them in Alban’s case), but we’re still talking about a game here. Taking someone who is offensive, vulgar, and threatening from the site doesn’t violate free speech. He’s free to create his own website and his own forum and say what he wants. This is a site for Jazz fans, and other basketball fans who may tune in, to have discussion and dialogue. There’s no problem with people questioning or challenging the Jazz or even being negative. But Alban’s threatening comments had nothing to do this. He’s gone far beyond the bounds of what this site was created for.
I think it’s also important to add that there was initially a response to Alban that called him a “little homo.” That is also completely absurd and something that doesn’t belong on this site. I went back and tried to find it but couldn’t. Maybe a moderator took it down? If so, I’m really glad. Whoever initially posted that, please use better judgement. Let’s all do the best we can to police ourselves here. We can discuss the Jazz, challenge one another’s ideas, but no need to get personal, nasty, or offensive.
Option 1.
Then we’ll toilet paper his yard, give him an atomic wedgie, followed by a swirlie in the ESA bathrooms
@JC…I’m liking choice 1…he went way to far on my post and I’m none of what he said. To everyone else who is confused just look at my post and you will clearly see Alban there for no other reason than to make ridiculous comments. Its one thing he writes what he does on his blogs, but he read my post and twisted craziness out of it.
@Super: You forgot the honey and red ants.
#1, however if you ban him, do you really think that is going to stop him? its not that hard to create a second account, banning would just motivate him.
The only way to get rid of a troll is for everyone to be aware of them, and agree to ignore them.
Posts like this only give them the attention they are craving.
option one. simple as that. Gosh i hate grass fairys!
#1-Ban him. Kyle stole my thunder. I was going to mention that its easy to create a second account, but I was going to take that another way. Maybe if he’s banned, it will send a message to him to cut it out and them if he truly wants to come back and participate in down-to-earth conversations, then he can come back with another ID. Or maybe just put a two or three week ban for now and increase that every time he missuses his privileges
#1
Option 1. ‘Nuff said.
