BIG T

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Yesterday, Big T (Thurl Bailey) came to Timpanogos, my high school, to help us with basketball. He said when he was growing up there was no such thing as being “average”, he was better than that. Then he helped probably 10 people with shooting.

He told us that when he was at NC State, they brought Michael Jordan through and showed him the facilities, and said he was a good basketball player. He said they had no idea in the world that he would e the greatest ever to play the game.

Anyways my point was when he was talking about a Not-So-Famous Jimmer Fredette. He said there is no doubt in his mind he will do good at the NBA level. He said people are worried about his defense, but most PGs aren’t good at defense. He said Jimmer has the will power and WILL get better at his defense. Thurl said people that say he won’t do good in the NBA is crazy, the kid can score on anybody. ANYBODY!!!

Now, I just thought you might like reading this, and does what he said change your opinion on Jimmer, or not?

I would like to see him drafted also, but not by the Jazz

Thurl Bailey is a really cool guy, I’m an event coordinator and I facilitated a Jazz Music Awards Gala that he attended a couple of years ago and I got a chance to chat with him for a minute. Great guy.

I like Jimmer with our 12th pick after Kanter 3rd.

But Knight might be the better pick at 3rd, and if that’s the case, then I’d rather see us pick up a SF at 12.

I like our vets (Millsap, Jefferson, Harris) and honestly think they could be the cornerstone for the next 5 years for this team. I think people are over-valueing the draftees in comparison to those guys. We’ll have a good young rookie crew behind the vets in Hayward, Favors the two this year and another hopefully next year. I’d dump Price, Miles, Bell. If Okur can come back, that’s awesome. I’d like to re-sign Harris if we don’t pick up a PG in the draft.

Our biggest problem is what we have at SF.
AK (if re-signed) – too often injured, doesn’t have that ‘win the game’ mentality, although he is talented.
Evans – PF in college, but not big enough for it in the NBA.
Miles – 32% shooting in losses, 42% shooting in our wins. INCONSISTENT and not a high basketball IQ.
Gordon Hayward – more fitted to the shooting guard IMO.
Paul Millsap – maybe against the Ron Artests of the league, but doesn’t work at SF against a lot of teams.

So that’s our problem. We don’t have a bona-fide Small Forward with starter-level talent. All we have is a handful of guys who can play there, but should probably be a 2nd or 3rd option. You need FIVE guys with starter-level talent to start, and then TWO-THREE guys with starter-level talent sitting on the bench to come in for them to be a championship contender IMO. (Unless you’re Miami and you fenagle deals for two of the three top-5 players in the league and a top-10 PF).

Sorry, this post took a strange turn.

Oh and Fes…If we don’t draft Kanter and Okur remains hurt, I think we’ll be needing Fes. If we draft Kanter or Okur looks 90% or more I think the big goofball is expendable.

@KC nah man, its all good, i enjoyed reading that. I agree with everything you said

  7. Patrick says:

Fredette is going to be good in the NBA. The trouble is that there are many guys who are going to be good in the NBA. This isnt school ball where you pick someone because you like them. Then tomorrow you could pick another friend. This is our Franchise, and its for good.

I never understood best available until this season when people are saying lets draft Fredette 3rd, or lets draft Burks 3rd. Lets draft Biyombo 3rd. They dont understand that if those guys were on our radar we would trade down, or find another way to draft them. They seem to think I want and therefor I will get no matter the cost.

You cant do that with a Buisness, and that is what the Utah Jazz is. Is our Team, but they still need to pay the bills, and there are many more to pay other than the Millions that go to players.

If we had an extra pick, I would say nab Jimmber out of curiousity, but I have to agree that we have other more pressing needs, and Jimmer is not the 3rd best player in this draft. If you really want Jimmer, find a way to trade the Bells, Okurs, Miles, and Tomic’s away. It will add money and space, and to the right team it could even mean the extra pick to land Jimmer. I doubt it, but I would not rain on your parades that way. We shall see in time. Good luck.

    dude sweet

  9. I think if we pick anybody besides knight at three, then we should choose Jimmer at twelve. I think he will be a stud in the NBA for his whole career people say he wont be good but what? is he just gonna stop being able to hit the three because hes in the NBA. He will always be a great three point shooter and he will work hard on his defense to become better at that also.
