Meet
Really, Guys?

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I have been a regular on this site for over a year now but never was compelled to make an account. But recently there have been some users that have thrown out really harsh insults to others for stating an opinion. What is the deal? Cant we behave like adults on this site? Just to give some recent examples I will quote brandonbrinton calling someone an “idiot” and Nick Knows All telling people to “use their brain” or to “shut up retard” (separate instances). I am not only calling these two users out but everyone on here. I used specific examples so people would not rationalize their insults by thinking that theirs are okay. I understand that the Jazz are a volatile topic right now during the franchise turmoil but can we please keep some sense of Civility? This is a website created for people to share opinions about a common interest, not some hate filled message board for chastisement. CIVIL discourse and bantering are one thing, but this is going too far too often. Please reflect on how you are treating others and adjust it accordingly. This site is quickly losing its appeal to me. I am sure most of your are nice people and would never treat someone like this in person, but please remember that just because your identity is hidden behind your keyboard it does not mean that your insults are not hurtful to others.
Show some love to each other

agreed. I am getting tired of it too.
Good post.. I think at times most of us have a short rope and can say things we regret later. I can think of only two to three people who have not been a bad-mouther.. I will work on it myself and apologise to anyone whom I have offended. Let’s join forces and have a great year..
My first comment doesnt really show the good attitude that LK’s does so i will agree with both Justice and LK and also say sorry to anyone I have insulted in the past.
Agreed…let’s leave the name calling, and put downs, to Karl Malone and Greg Miller.
Sorry to offend you “justice.” Thanks for calling me out, out of all the users on this site.
And, in my own defense, I’d like to point out that when Jazzman was expressing his opinions on Hayward, I was NOT among the dozens of users who insulted him. In fact, I said, “everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
That being said, it IS my opinion that if you want to trade Paul Millsap, you are an idiot. Oh, and “use your brain” is not an insult; it’s a request.
I for one and sick of all the ridiculous, completely illogical, unrealistic, unfounded, counterintuitive trade ideas, that affectively disrespect members of the Utah Jazz. I’m just a fan defending my team.
Nick Knows All…I hear where your coming from, and I don’t question that your a loyal fan of the team. I salute you for that, and love the passion you bring. I have times when I just roll my eyes at some of the posts, and comments that people leave.
However, this is a site where all the fans are free to post their opinions, no matter how illogical, unrealistic, etc…they may be. It’s kind of what this site was designed for in the first place. That being said, we all need to be a little more polite, and selective in our choice of words, when we find ourself in disagreement, or feeling frustrated by the opinions or ideas of others.
Justice…I hope you continue to frequent this site, whether you choose to leave comments, or just read the various posts. I’m sure your not alone in your feelings, which is all the more reason we all need to make the extra effort to be able to agree to disagree, without it getting chippy.
@ Nick Knows All
Defending your team from what? Its fans? Thats noble of you…
your delusions are really something of note and often guys who like you take little to no time to read a post or offer a feasible alternative, rather just attempt to degrade the author. Its funny how people who see things in such black and white terms often give themselves a pass upon their poor behavior, ironic no?
I too, like justice read every post that is made on this website. hardly ever do I comment on anything, but this gets to me. the funny thing is, is that this site is very clean I dont see any post with swear words at all. i think it is kinda nitpicky to be worrying about what Tacorev said to jazzman because it might hurt jazzmans feelings. this is a site were 90% of its readers are sports fans and 100% are jazz fans. I like the smart, snide, rude comments on this site because it reminds me of how my friends and I are when we watch a game together. sticks and stones guys…c’mon
@Nick
I apologize if I wasnt completely clear in the post. I used examples because psychology suggests that if examples arent made then people rationalize their actions.I realize now that I could have used those quotes anonymously. So again I am sorry. I was just trying to be effective in making people think about their behavior. I was intending that toward EVERYBODY on the website and not just you and Brandonbrinton.
Im a confident successful man down here in Phoenix, so don’t worry I will still post my opinions regardless of what others may say and any immature comments they may post. The more they call names, the more they show you that they fear you are right….lol ….on the bright side….Way to beat the Lakers!!!!!!! And I will ALWAYS be a JaZz fan no matter where I am……
There is nothing like a win over the Lakers to help bygones be bygones! Go Jazz!
Also, you are forgiven, LK
Nick, Love it, keep it up. I love all you guys and value your posts. Even the silly ones. It may seem harsh at times when someone says shut up, and maybe stupid isnt the best way to tell someone that they need to think before inserting foot into mouth. That being said, many guys just are not articulate enough to use big words, or even spell correctly using proper English. So what. Its a site to post thoughts and ideas. Its America and we are allowed to express ourselves in whatever manner we wish. I would hope that people would be nice about it, but sometimes things strike you wrong and you or I lash out prior to hitting the chill button.
Now as for me, if I have offended anyone, and I am sure I have, Its not to make you mad, its not to belittle you, its because I am passionate, as I hope all of you are. I am sorry for any past posts that upset you. I better apologize for any future posts that I upset you with also. It will probably happen. Again its not because I hate you, or because I want to make you feel rotten, its because I hate seeing people jump on a bandwagon, and post things without any sort of supporting thought process or data.
If at any time you feel like you need to tell me to shut up stupid, do so because I am tough enough to know that you wont always agree with what I have to say, and I will not go cry in a corner. I will either back up my thoughts with data, if I havent already, or I may actually rethink what I posted.
Nick, In the above example of trading Millsap. I read that post and I am in full agreement with Nick. Lets throw our best role model, carry the team on his back player each and every night until he cant continue, to another team for crap in return. Oops, sorry for saying crap. Again, love you all, its not disrespect to disagree, but I will try and tone it down as well.
I realize you weren’t pointing me out specifically.
I shouldn’t have called him an idiot. My bad. I was probably being to harsh, intention wasn’t to hurt, more to say his opinion was dumb. Good call justice.
better said I THOUGHT his opinion was dumb, which I still think it is! Hayward Rocks! Sorry Patrick! I doubt he cares anyways!
I’ll watch my words better.
I completely agree with the sentiment Justice, however, as you can read, it may have caused more of the same
@Patrick: LOL Thanks pat. Great insight as always.
Yeah I don’t mean to offend anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings. I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m not shy about expressing my opinions. And if I disagree with you, I’m most likely going to tell you about it.
I do want to apologize to Trevor, though. I’ve been kinda mean to him for his inability to write coherent posts. Sorry about that Trevor. You’re a true fan, seem like a good guy and I don’t mean to disrespect you. Run on sentences are just one of my pet peeves. I’m over it, hopefully you are too.
Everyone should feel free to post whatever they want on this forum. BUT you do have to realize that we as Jazz fans are an extremely passionate fan base, especially all of us on this forum.
So if you say something that riles me about my boy Millsap, i’m going to blow up on you. That’s just the way it is. That should NOT come as a surprise.
It seems like Patrick and Bryan share my sense of humor and get where I’m coming from. My friends and I are always giving each other a hard time, even insulting each other, but all in the spirit of fun.
@Justice: Don’t worry, I’m not offended, but you DID mention me by name
Doesn’t psychology tell you to anticipate some sort of response?
It’s cool you want this to be a respectful board. I don’t want anyone to feel intimidated about posting.
But sometimes in life, people do/say things that you might find offensive, and you just have to learn to deal with it. Name calling is petty, and words like “stupid” and “use your brain” really are NOT offensive. You can’t let people get to you that easily.
We live in a nice little bubble here in SLC. This is a very “civilized” forum. People get into disagreements and names are called. Not a big deal. If there’s a serious issue with serious insults and harassment going down, that’s different.
@Van–I’ve got to point out the irony in your post–you insulted me in a post about NOT insulting people. Good job man, way to rise above. You must have been on the receiving end of one of my tirades.
And, yes, Van, sometimes Jazz fans need to defend the Jazz from other Jazz fans. If a Jazz player has one bad game, and people like you instantly throw them under a bus and demand a trade, YES, that does call for defending the Jazz from other Jazz fans.
Oh and by the way, another stellar disappointment from Hayward tonight….
Even the NBA TV analysts were making fun of Hayward trying to guard Kobe…..
What’s next? A group hug? I’ll sit that one out
jazzman must think he is pretty funny… I usually agree with him on Hayward and his role this season but please nobody give him the satisfaction of being irritated. It will keep on happening the more people react to it.
Good post, Justice. I think that a little class goes a long way. Jazz fans enjoy a wonderful team and future!
@Patrick: What do you think of the preformance of the Blask Jimmer last night??
Sorry I meant Black. Darn Aurther.
LK, Its funny, he is doing near the same as Jimmer if you double his minutes, but shooting a better percentage. Both seem to be struggling, but the no preseason and such could be the problem as well as maturity. Guess we will have to see over the next couple seasons. Good memory.
Thanks for bringing this to the surface. I used to write on the Jazz blogs everyday and then it changed and it was so mean to each othyer that it wasn’t fun to do. I miss it and I think I have some good ideas. Hope the blogging gets to be fun again!
Linda, Please come back and post again. We do like to hear everyone’s opinions. If someone gets mean, Which hopefully they dont, its best to ignore them. Good luck and hopefully everyone will get back on board. Especially the positive guys. There is much to be positive about this team, without guys wanting to make trades each and every game night. Just a thought.
