The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.So I’ve heard it rumored every now and again… but now I’ve seen it on 3 professional writers posts.
Straight up Al Jefferson for Andre Iguadala.
I find this trade to be an advantage for a few reasons.
1) Iggy is a stud. He will come in and bring muscle and leadership for our young guys. He’s quick, can finish, run the fast break. He also is a great defensive presence. He is an awesome rebounder for a SF. He’s got ball handling skills and is quick enough to defend point gaurds and strong enough to defend some PF’s in the league.
2) It allows Favors and Kanter to branch out. Yes… everyone will finally have their wish with having one of our bigs gone. Favors would probably start Center (I doubt Kanter will) and Paul would start the 4 spot. Back up for the 4 spot would be tricky but Marvin Williams could probably play some PF and we still do have Evans but he is pretty small still for a 4.
2 Cont’d) Coach Corbin said that he wants to try playing Burks at the 1. He really did say that. This way we wouldn’t have a giant jam at the wings and Murphy (rookie) could get some playing time. I could see Rotation something to this:
PG) Williams, Burks, Tinsley, Watson
SG) Hayward, Murphy, Carroll
SF) Iggy, Carroll,Marvin Williams, Evans
PF) Millsap, Marvin Williams, Evans
C) Favors, Kanter
HOWEVER
This trade kind of makes us look like a thin front line. One of those guys gets hurt and we’re kinda screwed. I dont know… just my opinion.
And yet again… I dont know if this rumor is legit.
Anyone know?

I’m not sure what your sources are, so I can’t really comment.
Right now, based on all the off season movement in the NBA, I feel like the Jazz are currently the 7th best team in the west.
The teams I would rank below the Jazz: Minnesota, Denver, Portland, Golden State, Sacramento, Phoenix, Houston, and New Orleans.
The teams I would rank above the Jazz: Oklahoma City, San Antonio, the Lakers, the Clippers, Dallas, and Memphis.
I have them winning right around 50 games, and probably losing in the first round of the playoffs (especially if they end up having to play the Thunder, Lakers, or Spurs in a first round series). If they got into a 4th vs 5th matchup with the Clippers, Grizzlies, or Mavs, they would have a fighting chance.
Things can always change though.
If Jazz got Iggy I think Caroll would be gone so marvin could play more minutes.
Yeah I wouldnt rank Dallas above us. They may have lucked out with a few good players since everyone bailed but they arnt great and have a lot of new pieces to catch up to speed.
I agree the Mavs probably won’t be as good as in past seasons (Kidd and Terry were a HUGE part of what made that team tick).
Unless the Jazz play Burks major minutes at point guard, I don’t know if we really need Iggy.
We need playing time for Marvin, Gordon, and Alec.
Trading Al for Iggy probably won’t happen, and if it does, we’ll shed some backup wings in the deal as well. Really though, if we trade a big, we should try to get a point guard, I like having Mo instead of Harris, but we need a young guy to play with our other young guys in the future.
On another note, there are only 4 teams in the west that I would rank better than us. OKC, Spurs, Lakers, Clippers. The Mavericks gambled way too much this summer and lost nearly every time, and the Grizzlies lost some talent when they let Mayo walk.
I believe KOC traded for Ma Williams to start at the 3. I have not heard any of this rumor but then again I have not been looking but I would think Iggy would come to the Jazz to be #2 and start so that would take from Hayward. I think the 12 the Jazz have put together over the off season is promising and makes me want to watch all the games. Go Jazz
Starters:
Mo Williams
Hayward
Ma Williams
Favors
Big Al
Bench:
Tinsley/Burks can play this at times for more minutes that would be taken from Tinsley
Burks/Murphy
Carroll/Evans
Milsap
Kantar
Do not care who the other 3 are really because unless they are a big name they will probably just be on the roster in case injury or starter and bench guy are struggling.
Just my opinion though. Corbin needs to be consistent with a 12 man roster and they will all get the amount of playing time they need.
Could you imagine the Small/Big lineup though of Burks/Hayward/Iggy/Williams/Favors?? On defense and on offense they would be dominate!!! This is exactly what the Heat lineup looked like but our big man is bigger and our wings are bigger as well. Marvin is big enough to guard most of the PF in the league.
I read some of the 76ers fans say though they think they are getting the better end of the deal and they would be willing to throw in a draft pick or two HAHAHAHAHAHA.
As much as I love Carrol a trade of Jefferson and Carrol for Iggy I think would get it done. We might have to take back one of their bigs to clear space for them to have Jefferson but that would solve not having to go get a 5th big out in the free agents. Like Vucevic who is a 7 footer and has some range.
The minutes would look something like this
PF: Millsap-30, Favors-5, Evans-13
C: Favors-25, Kanter-20, Vucevic just gives some time if needed and then feels in if an injury occurs.
But also like Ryan says we need at some point to get a young PG but I do not know if that happens in the Al trade or in a separate trade like I previewed in my post
Salaries for this year are close. Iggy has one more year. Jazz could be deep..Second unit would look great..And let them throw in a draft pick or two. Make them take Bell also..
This is a very bad idea! If we want to stay competitive, we need Al Jefferson unless of course KOC can swing a straight up deal for Dwight Howard/Andrew Bynum in return… good luck on that one! Bigs with Al’s offensive abilities are difficult to come by in this league… let’s see if we can improve Al’s defensive capabilities before we give him away! It’s called proactive, hands on, effective coaching!
It’s time for this coaching staff to get with it… no more excuses surrounding inexperience! By the way, I’m encouraged by Coach Corbin’s statement regarding his plan to play Alec Burks at the 1 spot! Burks has all the tools/size to boot! Good idea… wish he had picked up on this last season! We’re a year behind… let’s get with it! Just my take.
I’d say getting rid of Al is addition by subtraction. Like the situation with Boozer. Get rid of Booz, bring in Millsap to develop a bit, win-win. Anything in return for Al would be profit, and Iggy would be a fantastic profit. I’d love to see him in a Jazz uniform.

Philly is looking for a sufficient backup PG and to get bigger down low. They are stock piling wing men like they are going out of style (Turner, D Wright, N Young, S Young etc) Hawes is there only real go to guy in the PF/C position. They would be better off trade us IGGY for Millsap and Watson so Hawes could stay at C.
I love the idea of Igoudala over Al. We don’t have an All Star and some teams have 3!
PG: Williams / Burks / Tinsley
SG: Hayward / Burks / Murphy
SF: Igoudala / Williams / Carroll
PF: Favors / Millsap / Evans
C: Kanter / Favors / draft a big or pick up a FA in 2013
Speaking of FA, we could make a legit run at CP3 next offseason with a supporting cast of Hayward, Igoudala, Favors and Kanter not to mention Burks, Marvin Williams and Millsap
The question is, which starting lineup is better?
Williams/Hayward/Igoudala/Favors/Kanter or
Williams/Hayward/Williams/Favors/Jefferson
I prefer the latter, especially with Burks/Murphy/Carroll/Millsap/Kanter off the bench
Starting Favors and Jefferson work because you have 1 legit defender and 1 scorer. The bench unit of Millsap and Kanter is the same except you have 1 scorer and 1 defender in the PF/C positions.
@JMC, you are absolutely right, trade doesn’t make sense unless Burks is getting most of his minutes at PG, which I totally hope so.
@Kory, 76ers want to move Hawes to PF like a stretch 4, that’s why they were looking for a Center and signed Kwami Brown, so Im sure they will see Al as an upgrade over Brown. I thought that was a perfect opportunity to move Al and Watson since they were also looking for a backup PG.
I would do a Al, Watson, for Iggy and Battie even.
I have posted a lot of Iggy to Utah trades, one reason I think there is a good chance is because of the relationship between Thorn and KOC, they made that big trade for DWill when he was in NJ, so they would work so that no team felt they were getting screwed. This is a very possible trade partner.
Trade works salary wise. Iggy has 1 yr + a player option year.
You would think Philly would jump at the deal. They improve by about 6 points and 6 rebounds and get an expiring contract.
It relieves a log jam, but the Jazz offense isn’t as productive. Probably the Jazz are not any better, maybe a touch worse.
I would rather see Big Al traded for draft picks and young talent, which could happen in Feb.
Having cap space next year could be the key to picking up that special player to make a championship run.

@Bill Oh Bill Bill Bill. The ONLY way we are going to compete with OKC and Miami is if we are an elite defensive team. We will NEVER be an elite defensive team with Al. If he has not learned how to play defense by this point in his career he will never learn it.
@Dallan agreed!! The team that game the Heat the most trouble was Boston, not cuz of their offensive firepower, but because of D. OKC and Spurs run everything out of P&R, we can’t stop that it will lead to points in the paint (dunks and layups) and wide open threes (see 4 game sweep). If we stop the P&R, Spurs and especially OKC will take nothing but jump shots–contested jump shots. And with great rebounders like Kanter and Favors, no second chance points. That is how we beat the best teams in league, not with Al taking 22 shots to get 25 points, and allowing penetration and 3s.
Yes, I’ve been advocating a Jefferson for Iguodala trade for a while now. Hopefully it happens
We’d be sooo much better defensively. And we might actually have ball movement and players moving without the ball again! If the trade really went down, I think we’d want to let Carroll go, sign the pure shooter at SG that we still need, and sign a fairly cheap backup big man. I suppose we could bid on Scola.
Come on guys lets give Al some cred with his IQ . Hes smart. His body just cant do it. I see his bad defense as a total agility problem due to blowing out his knees.
IGGY ALL the WAY! and we dont bench Marvin if we get Iggy.
PG Mo
SG Hayward
SF IGGY
PF Marvin
C Favors
I know Marvin got screwed being pushed to the 4 spot at atlanta, but this lineup is a completely different animal. You could Iso Favors all day with everyone making cuts and spot ups. Other teams would be forced to throw in a smaller lineup but but would just get owned. That is some good talent on the floor. If we got IGGy and Favors and Hayward make the jump that is expected, I really think this team could contend. Potent starting 5 and deeper bench than the rest of the league.
man I hope KOC does this trade!! pretty please…
I’ve been saying this trade for a long time. Of course, that was before nabbing Marvin Williams. At this point a better trade for Al might be young guys and future draft picks. But I love Iggy’s game, he plays well both ways, he’s just overpaid a bit. If that trade happened, I’d be real excited about having him.
Let’s go KOC let’s get iggy in a jazz uniform!!
Sorry guys I think that Jeffersen is here till at least the trade deadline . I think that they wait and see how these new additions perform and gell with the rest of the young group we have now , before we make anymore moves .
They have let alot of good talent get snached up for me to beleive that they are willing to do anymore at this point .
That of course is just my opinion .
Go Jazz !!!!!
@Jay I think your right. I would say your absolutely right except that KOC got busy this off season when we all thought we were going to just sit and grow within this year. He’s not !@#$% around and really is trying to make this team better. I bet hes made the offer
1 — Mo, Tinsley, Watson
2 — Hayward, Burks, Murphy
3 — Iguodala, Marvin, Carroll
4 — Millsap, Evans
5 — Favors, Kanter
That lineup would bring a ton of flexibility, for example Burks could spend time at the 1, Marvin could play the 4, Millsap at the 3, Favors and Kanter could both play 4, Hayward and Iguodala pretty much interchangeable at the 2 & 3. Watson, Murphy, Carroll, and Evans would likely see limited minutes. It would be a better team than we had this year in virtually every facet.
@Tacorev
good roster , but i trade Big AL and Watson to Iggy.
And try sign A.brooks and T.Murphy
1 — Mo,A.Brooks, Tinsley ( whith possibility to waive, if necessary Burks plays at PG position)
2 — Hayward, Burks, Murphy
3 — Iguodala, Marvin, Carroll
4 — Millsap, T.Murphy, Evans
5 — Favors, Kanter
If necessary T.Murphy plays at C position)
We just got a starting SF in Marvin Williams. This trade isn’t going to happen.
