The Possible Moves and Picks

Posted by: Kelton on June 7th, 2011

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

With the new speculation that the Kings/Jazz trade could possibly go down I am exstatic! Tyreke Evans is going to be a superstar. He’s a rookie of the year, great scorer, great passer, plays defence. Well when you look at it… who do we get rid of?

We would get rid of CJ, Raja, and the 3rd pick and land Tyreke and the 7th pick. We’d keep the 12th pick.

Who would we draft at 7? Well giving up CJ and Raja we’re giving up wings leaving us with G-Time, Andrei, and Tyreke depending on what Andrei’s situation is. So the need is a wing. My first thought would be the projected 10th pick Alec Burks.

Alec is 6′6″ has a wingspan of 6′10″. Amazing shooter and even better athletic ability. He is same size as CJ so we wouldnt be losing size. And I think he could be the next Danny Granger.

We still have the 12th pick. Some may say we need a big… okay… let’s check our options. All the Euro-Leaguers will be gone by this time leaving us with… Tristan Thompson, Bismack Biyombo, and Kenneth Faried. Throw in Trey Thompkins.

But I still think we’d need a shooter. With the possibilty of that trade, trading probably the 2 most deadly three point shooters on the team and gaining Tyreke who isnt that great of an outside shooter, I think We need one more. I personally do think Jimmer. And don’t cry that I’m just another fan. This makes sence! Imagine Jimmer, Alec, G-Time, Paul, and Memo. Paul will probably one of the best 3 point shooting big man next season. And assuming Memo is healthy… IMAGINE THIS LINE UP! Paul can gaurd Boozer, Memo can gaurd Noah, G-Time could take care of Deng, Jimmer on Ronnie B, and Devin on D-Rose.

Drafting Jimmer does make alot of sence.

In another opinion. I think we should make a different trade. Trade the 3rd pick, money, and CJ/Raja to Indiana, get their pick (15), and Danny Granger (they want to rebuild want him gone) with that fifteenth pick draft Shelvin Mack.

Shelvin Mack is a great penatrater, has great passing ability, and is an amazing shooter. He lead Butler to the championship and in my opinion he’s the most underated player going into this draft. Imagine him playing along with G-Time. It would bring more leadership and winning attitude to this team.

Or we could do nothing and keep our picks (the most likely scenario) and here are a couple things I’ve seen.

3rd Enes Kanter and 12th Jimmer Fredette

3rd Brandon Knight and 12th Jimmer Fredette

3rd Brandon Knight and 12th Jan Vesely

Enes and Jimmer are what I see the most of. And it does make sence. Putting a log jam upfront which isnt bad and Jimmer filling the scoring void.

These are only my opinions, thoughts?

  1. Good post you really have some good ideas. I love danny granger and i would love to see him play in utah.

  2. L.K.Anderson says:

That trade would be fine with me. Evans is a combo guard so he could spend time at both 1-2.. The best part is parting with CJ and Bell. I have been on the Burks bandwagon for a long time but he would be a duplicate of Evans. Don’t think Mack will go as high as fifteen. How about trade the # 12 pick to the Bulls for 28,30 picks. Then get Mack and Tyler sho the Jazz worked out. They say Tyler may be the steal of the draft. In mock drafts they are at the 28 – 40 range.

  3. Woody Palmer says:

@Kelton where did you hear about the jazz/kings deal? The only thing I read was that article from bleacher report that suggested a trade. It was not even a rumor.

That being said I wouldnt mind this trade but i think it is a pipe dream and have a hard time even pretending it could happen. The kings wouldn’t give up their best player for nothing. And if the Pacers would give us Granger for the 3, Raja/CJ and some money that would be a steal of a lifetime. I think the Pacers could get much more value than that.

Like you said, the most likely scenario is we keep our picks, or trade down for future picks. I honestly have no idea what to do with either pick…. I just want it all over with; im tired of all the speculation.

  4. Mike W says:

Wait, where are we getting the Kings/Jazz trade rumor from? Anything more verifiable than all of us babbling on this website? I don’t see it from any source that verifies rumors.

  5. For the past 15 days now, I’ve been revved up to pick up Kanter or Knight @ 3rd and then Singleton @ 12th – because of our impossible need at defense on the wings. However, I’ve seen some footage of Burks of late and I just can’t believe how much I’m beginning to LOVE this kid. He’s pretty darn good!! I agree with LK….he does look a little bit like an Evans, but he just might be a talent that can’t be passed up. With that said, (wishing I was KOC), I would package the 3rd pick with the Kings to bring in Evans (combo) and allowing us the opportunity to land Burks @ 7th and then landing either Singleton or Jimmer @ the 12th. I don’t think our real need is another big man at the PF/C position, obviously, so I would do this.

Now, unless KOC was SO in love with Knight, I would probably package the 3rd pick with Toronto’s 5th pick. Toronto wouldn’t pass up Kanter @ the 3th pick, as they’re starting to show some interest in a big to complete a trio of bigs, and Cleveland obviously isn’t going to grab two PG’s in a row, so that would land Knight right in our laps @ 5. (Not so likely)

Packaging a deal with Indiana to bring Granger in is probably as unlikely as anything being rumored out there right now.

But, as it stands right now, my favorite idea is packaging the 3rd pick with the Kings for Evans (as his stock is down due to his last season injury) and using the 7th for Burks and the 12th for Jimmer or Singleton. I’m in love with Singleton’s D, but Jimmer is really beginning to impress with GM’s. And, while looking at Burks, there’s no way he falls to the 12th. Those are my thoughts!

  6. Van says:

While I would love to see Tyreke come to Utah I really dont think Sacremento would trade him for CJ and Raja, Sorry I just dont see the Kings being that dumb. Trades usually have to be somewhat even and that trade is in no way an even exchange.
Actually the more I read about the picks the more I might like the idea of Utah taking Walker at the 3rd since he is much more NBA ready than Knight. Even at the combine he measured pretty favorably and came out about a quater inch taller than Chris Paul. Then at 12 I think Utah looks at Jimmer, Singleton, Thomas, Burcs and Brooks. Brooks is really intruiging but might be a reach at 12. I almost garuntee some trades go one draft day.

  7. Patrick says:

It was one of those suggestion type rumors. No talking going on. You would have died to see the other rumor they added with it. Three team deal sending Harris to portland, 3rd pick and miles to Sacramento, and some loser PG and Evans here. Mostly just babble.

The Granger thing, who knows. We know there have been talks to the Timberwolves for the second pick regaurding him. So its possible, but only if we dont want knight, Kanter, or Williams.

Knight and Singleton, Knight and Burks, Knight and K Thompson, Williams and Fredette, Williams and K Thompson, etc are just a few more of the possible things that are out there.

Cavs could trade up to 3 for their 4 and Sessions if they really wanted who ever was left between Kanter and Williams and were worried that we might trade it away, trading down past them for Knight or lower.

I wonder if Miles and Bell could catch us another 1st round pick in the top 20? Any thoughts there? That is provided that we didnt attatch them to another trade.

  8. Zach says:

I don’t know how well Tyreke would fit into our system, but I’ve seen more of him playing at PG than SG. I’d be really excited if we got Burks though. I really think he will be one of the better steals of this draft. If the trade went down, we could help fill our wing/defensive needs with Chris Singleton at the 12th pick. I wouldn’t be upset if we drafted Jimmer at that point either. We need to get a shooter one way or another. I really doubt anyone could be too excited about getting Raja and CJ. Watching Raja play last season made me cringe and CJ would cost us 5 losses for every 1 win he got us.

  9. Spencer says:

The Jazz have essentially talked with every team about making trade. KOC really does listen to trade offers he just very rarely pulls the trigger on them. If that rumor had been mentioned anywhere else other than bleacher report I would have thought it held some weight. But one thing I love about KOC is he keep things under wrap incredibly well. If something does get out it will be from the other teams side. And if that is the case you will find it on hoopshype.com They are basically a site that scours the internet for every rumor that pops up outside of bleacher report.

  10. Guido says:

I think is a good trade plus, we dosent need urgently the third pick because we are full of youth, so we could draft biyombo at seven and Jimmer at 12 and we solve two problems: defense and shoot, and bringing evans at utah we could finally take a good sg to be with harris with jimmer at bench.

I hope again, we resign AK, look at the stats when he plays, and when he not play, please obvoiusly with a new less money contract, but he seems to be happy with that, “He had enough”

  11. L.K.Anderson says:

The only reason I could see this trade is that the Kings are sold on Williams dropping to third selection. If that was the case the Jazz would make the selection and then the trade. Also just out on Hoopsworld a trade Raptore/Wolves. Flynn for DeRozen and trade picks. That way the Raps could get one of Williams. Irving, Kanter, Knight,Walker.

  12. I would love that trade but I think we would have to throw Paul in there for them to do that deal. I love Burks! But you said he is an amazing shooter and that is actually the thing that scouts say he is the worst at.. he is an amazing penetrator but not shooting, I do think he can develop that though! Granger would be awesome to have here! I think everyone is overestimating Pauls defense also. Lockes stats had him as one of the worst defenders in the NBA last season. He is just too small.

  13. Woody Palmer says:

@Patrick I dont know how eager the Jazz are to pick up another pick in this draft… I think they would rather keep some veterans and obtain some future picks. Unless the Jazz are ready to forsake the team and rebuild OKC style and just play young guys. but i have a hard time believing that.

  14. L.K.Anderson says:

@Woody: CJ and Bell played so poorley that who would miss them?? 40% of the team will be rookies or sophs anyway.
