The Take Post 1

Ahh the off season. People desperatly want something to happen. Bleacher Report sends out stupid little posts. All of the sudden Paul Millsap sucks. Now the Timberwolves want the third pick. There might be a “deal” in the works. Gotta love the off season right?

The Take 1: Topic Paul:

I just all want you to realize what is being said. Paul doesnt play defense. Paul isn’t our guy. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Paul Millsap is the heart of this Jazz team. He is going to come back this year with a fire in his stomach. He is going to be THAT much more improved at hitting the three. He’s gonna go after and get all the loose balls. He is going to supply some of the leadership. Him and AL could be one of the best dynamic duo’s in the game. And yes, they are both posts! Dont panic on Paul just cause you want change. We need Paul. If we get rid of him… we are Millslaping ourselves.

The Take 1: Topic Rumors: Bleacher Report. I love reading it. It gives me a good laugh. Something to joke around with. But lets think logically. None of the ”rumors” are even close to true. I mean look at the Blazers trade… like they’re honestly going to give up Roy? Cmon people… think.

The Take 1: Topic THE DRAFT: I believe that the Timberwolves might wanna trade down. I read that on ESPN and other pages. I’m not too sure about the Cavs though. Shoot, I’m not sure about any trade with the Jazz. But we know Kevin O’Connor will do whats right. He always does.

The Take 1: Thoughts: I believe that drafting Derrick Williams is a possibility. He is soo much like Beasley that the Wolves would be stupid for taking him. Wolves have 2 bigs in Darko and Love… they need Kanter. I am a strong believer in drafting Derrick Williams.

The Take 1: Thoughts: For the 12th pick I am at a loss. Jimmers stock is rising thus making the possible 12th pick a mystery. I know if he is available at 12 we will get him. The NBA is a business. You gotta put BUTTS in SEATS. And once we get BUTTS in SEATS our stalk will rise. We wont be as little a market anymore. Jimmer has a huge fan base thus making more people Jazz fans. Thus making a larger market. Thus making more players wanting to come to Utah. Now if Jimmer is not available, I believe in drafting Singleton or Thompson. Just my thoughts.

What are your thoughts?

Interesting thoughts. I agree with some of what you wrote and then not with other things that you wrote. Thats the Beauty of these posts.

Lets see, Bleacher report is much like here. Anyone can post and much of it is drenched in personal opinion instead of facts. There is an upside, even though much of it is rubbish, there are some entertaining articles, some interesting facts, and it does get you to thinking. The down side is there are a lot of morons that dont know the difference between a 3pt shot and a free through.

Millsap is awesome and it would suck to lose him. But at the end of the day, its about building a winning franchise to put butts in the seats. If there is a better option than Millsap, then he may have to go. With Favors being the supposed franchise PF, and uncertainty surrounding if Millsap can guard SF’s of every team, could we see him leaving sometime in the future? Would it be best to trade him while he has great value?

You Talked about draft trades, there are several that are possible, and as you said KOC will find a way to make things work, or at least get people charged in a positive way or otherwise.

Williams, If he is too much like Beasley for them to draft, could KOC think he is to much like Millsap to draft? You said Millsap is a keeper so I wonder if Williams isnt passed over for some other talent (Knight or Kanter).

Jimmer, if he is the best player available and there at 12 I say we draft him. But only if he is best available, not because he can put butts in the seats. Winning games will put butts in the seats, and KOC has already said stated that. With a hole at the SF, and Knight and Kanter being high favorites for the 3rd spot, you may see one of several SF’s drafted instead of Fredette. Bad choice? Depends upon who you ask.

The thing to remember is that we all want a winning team. There are many different ways to get to that goal. Sometimes that means moving past a guy you really like, to get a guy you really need. I like many of the prospects. Sad thing is we only have 2 draft slots, and many dont fall into those positions. Since that is the case, I will be happy so long as we dont make a mistake and take somebody who is a flop, or stuck overseas.

Just to defend Bleacher Report, here is an interesting article. Top draft day steals. You will recognize a couple of the names. Can you name them prior to seeing the video?

If the Jazz manage to get Derrick Williams and Jimmer I would be the happiest person of all time. I keep thinking that we’ll pick Kanter hoping to get Jimmer at 12, but then another team ends up grabing him before we can. If that were too happen suicide would be in the near future… haha just kidding (maybe).

  3. Diana says:

I know it seems like every site and every tweet is about the same thing, there is only so much to talk about having known the draft order for nearly a month now. It’ll be nice when we know who we pick. though with the lockout I imagine we’ll then start to discuss the same thing over an over again, once again.

  4. Fan says:

Have to agree with Diana that every site and tweet are beginning to sound the same, most of these trades purposed don’t even sound like they are based in reality, I thought that is what fantasy basketball and video games were for.
I also agree with Patrick, it is not about drafting who you like, but who you need. Jimmer is a great player but he will not turn the Utah JAzz into a bigger market team. A large part of Jimmer fans are allready Utah Jazz fans.
Winning is what makes a franchise grow and what brings fans and money to the franchise.

  5. L.K.Anderson says:

I think if the Blazers could find a taker for Roy they should jump at the chance. He is all but done because of his knees. Now Oden says he won’t be ready until January. And they will make QO of eight mill to retain his services?? Most of these reports have no substance at all. I think KOC and the brass will do whatever they think will make the team better. That is what he always says.

  6. The timberwolves definitely want to trade down. And they will trade down. There is no way Williams is falling to the 3rd pick. It’s a two player draft, so Irving and Williams will go 1 and 2, there is no other possible scenario. I wouldn’t mind seeing us trade up to get him, but if we’re going to orchestrate a trade to pick up a SF I would rather see us land a true and proven SF like Iguodala or Granger.

  7. I’m 6′1″ and I tried guarding a 6′4″ guy in the post this morning playing ball. And no matter how much fire I had in my stomach I couldn’t guard him. He grabbed rebounds over me (despite my best efforts to box him out) and I really had a hard time legitimately contesting his shots. I scored a bunch of points against him and hit a bunch of threes, I was my teams’ best offensive player, but my team would have been better off with a 6′4″ guy who could shut him down because my team had other offensive options than myself. We needed interior defense, as do the Jazz. I love Millsap, but Favors is a better fit alongside Al even though Millsap is a much better scorer than Favors. Millsap is a better fit for the second team off the bench than Favors is.
