There has ben talk about Paul movin over to the bench for Favors going into next season. The problem is he doesn’t want to think about comin off the bench next year. I don’t blame him. According to Locke he is our most efficient scorer, do we really want our best player coming off the bench? Paul is the Utah Jazz. He is the foundation of our team. He does all the little things to make himself better and hustles his butt off on the court night in and night out. He is our starting 4. Thats just my feeling.
I also see the huge upside on Favors, and I would love for him to get more minutes. I would agree with most of you out there that Favors needs to start eventually, and he is a huge piece to the Jazz becoming a championship level team. I don’t know if he hould start the season a starter because I still beleive you have to prove yourself before you can start. But, I do think if Favors can be our 6th man and get 32-35 minutes a night and put up solid numbers next season that our future starting C would be Favors. He has the ablility to play both positions, but with his size and quickness (he may not be done growing) he will be able to burn nearly every C in the league. Also with him playing alongside Jefferson he can still match up at the PF spot. He has alot to prove, but the kid is going to be good.
Down the road, maybe the 2013 season Jefferson could come off the bench and be a huge scoring threat. Unlike Paul, Jefferson is a legit combo big man. He can play the 4 or 5. He is an improving defender and he is an improving passer and is just coming into his own in this Jazz system. If Al really just wants to win, maybe he would like the idea of being the 6th man who comes in and scores. With Al and Favors being versitale big men, Coach Tywill easlily find ways to get Al, Favors and Paul all 35 mins a night. Paul can match up at the 3 at times, but he will be our core PF.
I dont think I’m im too crazy in thinking we couldhave the best 3 big man units in the NBA. I could see all 3 big men contributing 17pts, 7rbs per game. Thats 51 pts a game off your frontcourt! As long as everyone buys into the system and stays unselfish I think these numbers are achievable. What do you guys think? Can we make it work with the bigs we have now?
