Kobe vs LeBron

Posted by: Kyle B Kirkham on July 31st, 2010

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Now as the summer progresses, so has a thought in my mind. For the record, I haven’t made my mind completely up on it. As a Jazz/NBA fan, who would you rather have. Kobe or LeBron. Now a year I know the results would be very different, but like I said, this summer has changed things. As Jazz fan’s we are all obliged to hate and despise Kobe and the Fakers. However that team in south beath has sure stirred things up. LeBron James has done things to his legacy that he can’t change, and that he will always be remembered for. LeBron is becoming more of a marketing machine/tool in the media and entertainment biz than he is a player. So I bring the question to you. Who would you rather have (yes I know we need a sg…) and who do you like/hate more..lets get a debate going.

kobe is better than lebron and the five rings prove it, so i would rather have kobe

If you’re talking about who you’d rather have right now to build your franchise around, you’d probably have to say LeBron James because he’s considerably younger. But if age wasn’t an issue (say I could have Kobe at 25 or 26 years old), I would take Kobe Bryant in a second. He is a killer. He wants to rip his opponent’s heart out like no one I’ve seen since Michael Jordan. I just don’t see that same killer instinct from LeBron James. Now, I’m treating this purely from a basketball perspective, thinking and caring only about what they do on 94 feet of hardwood. I don’t really care for either of them personally and am a fan of neither.

    Lebron over Kobe
    Heat over Fakers

I agree that James is turning out to be a marketing tool. The whole thing with the new changes to the Heat all over the media for weeks is just not basketball to me, it’s Hollywood. As far as Kobe goes (do not like him at all personally) he is an amazing athlete, who starves for competition! He stayed on the Lakers and made them build a team around him. All of the greats have done that. James on the other hand, who I think is extremely jealous of Kobe and his rings, was wanting and willing to move to make a super team to win a championship. Other than these two, someone who I admire more and more as time goes by is Kevin Durant. This is truly a player who loves and plays for the game. With all of the fuss down in South Beach, he quietly signed a max extension with His team in OKC. He doesn’t care about media, granted he is still very young and hopefully stays true to himself throughout the years, but still focuses on making His team better. I’m saying watch out for this kid. He is going to be one of the next true superstars!

Since getting either of them is never gonna happen…what about Rashad McCants? I know that NBA people say he’s a bad egg, but he is also someone who really wants to get back in the league. If we signed him for cheap and layed down some ground rules with Sloan, it could be a huge pick up. As a die hard duke fan it pains me to say that, but he would add that shooter that we are still looking for.

Really there both basically the same players as talent goes.
    Heres the list:
    1. They are both crybabies remember when Kpbe want it out of LA because he wanted help. Same as Lebron diference is LA had the money and influence to get Kobe help the Cavs didnt have that for Lebron. Well if you consider Mo William and an old pass his prime Shaq as help? And Antawn Jamison did not fit in that team.

2.Kobe can shoot better but Lebron can pass better.

Well thats the list you see the same.

Hmmmmn. Neither one. I just dont like KOBE, great player, but I dont like him. Lebron is a great player too. But he left a huge fan base for selfish reasons. Not because his family was needing medical care in that area, not because he has family in that area or it was home growing up, just because he wanted a ring… Could he not get that where he was at? Is he not a good enough player to at least try? Kobe has no morals and should have been tossed in Jail for what he did. Personally I would rather have players on my team that I love. I would rather lose than win at the expense of having great players with no morals, to be my kids role models. My opinion..

@James Taylor…I think the McCants idea is worth a shot. Only trouble is, the Jazz are one of the teams least likely to mess around with a guy like that. You probably saw this, but for anyone who hasn’t, check it out…it’s an interesting look at McCants’ situation. (It’s on ESPN insider so you might have to borrow someone’s password).

I think this is an interesting argument, now. At this time last year, a lot of people easily say LeBron James. However, I know a lot of people who are angry at LeBron James because they like the way things were back then. Suddenly, Kobe becomes the model player for all those old timers who love the good old days because he has been “loyal” to his Lakers and has stuck it out with them to win 5 championships. I see most people now (except Laker hating Jazz fans) picking Kobe over LeBron.

However, on to my opinion. This time last year I would’ve picked LeBron James. Since I am among the few who actually was interested and intrigued by LeBron going to the Heat, no reason to change. I still pick LeBron. I’ve never been a Kobe Bryant fan, although I would be very ignorant if I didn’t acknowledge the fact that he is one of the best players ever to play the game. Can’t deny that.

I hate it when people say Lebron ruined his legacy by choosing Miami over staying in Cleveland. Now instead of winning 0 championships in Cleveland he might have a chance to win 4 or 5. The intent of playing in the NBA is to WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! He took less money, which means he’s not greedy, took the purpose of playing sports, which is to WIN!!, and he gets to do it all with his friends! When you go play basketball dont you do it with your friends?? Now Lebron has chosen that and he might get some rings for doing so.. Stop hating on Lebron James. But back to the blog, I’d take Kobe in his prime. Better defensive player, shooter, ball handler and coach.

Couldn’t agree more Rob. I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one with that opinion. I was beginning to think I was.
