TOP 10 PG’S

Posted by: Kyle11Kirkham on September 2nd, 2010

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Today I went on to nba.com and was reading a blog post by one of nba.com’s writers. It was about Boozer and his goals for a ring with the Bulls. Anyways in the comments a few people started talking about Derrick Rose and how he is the best PG in the league.

Anyways this all inspired me to rank my top 10 pg’s in the league today. (This is current, not what players were in their prime)

10. Stephan Curry ( He is my sleeper pg. I always had something for Curry. He’s a good three point shooter, and has some nifty moves he can pull off, once he improves a little more on his TO’s I think he could be much higher on this list)

9. Tyreke Evans (Asides the fact that he likes to drive 130 mph on the free way he also averaged some where around 20 5 and 5 in his rookie season.)

8.Jason Kidd (He can score. He can pass. He can rebound. He can even hit three’s now. Only issue? He HAS to age)

7.Tony Parker (I always hated him because he was on the spurs, but now I actually like him, he is definitely one pg’s in the league at driving/penatrating into the paint, then getting hit and still converting.)

6.Chauncy Billups (We all watched him nail quite of few big three’s against that the Jazz in the first round (all inthe vain!haha) so sure age has gotten to him, but he seriously is one of the most clutch players in the NBA.)

5.Derrick Rose (He is one of the best scoring point guards in the league and is crazy athletic, plently of potential in the boy)

4.Rondo (He’s not at the level of these other guys, but if he can learn how to shoot the ball he will be close)

3. Steve Nash (Showed the NBA that old men can still play, had a fantastic season last year)

2. Chris Paul (It’s very very very hard for me to put him over Nash because he was injured all last season and Nash had a killer year.)

1.Deron Williams (No explanation needed.)

Who did I forget? Whats you list?

Nice, I don’t think I have any problem on this list. Did anyone see the rankings for PGs on fantasy yet? For yahoo it has Steph Curry above Williams. While I understand its fantasy so it could be true, it still bugged the hell out of me.

  2. Andrew says:

Pretty good. D Rose is no way in hell ahead of D-Will. Apparently those fans missed the D-Will posterizations on D-Rose. Deron crushed Rose in the 2 game series last year. Killed beyond belief. Rose is a great player, but nowhere near Williams.

  3. Gerald says:

Good list. Although I like Rose over Rondo, but that’s just my opinion. I’m not saying Rondo isn’t great, but he has Boston’s big three. (Yes, I’m alive if anyone was curious.)

  4. JC says:

Tyreke Evans and Stephen Curry have the power to be in the top 5 within two years. Tyreke is one of those “hybrid” guys that is “changing” the position; should he be able to adapt his game a little bit more look out.

  5. I personally would put Brandon Jennings as the number 10 over Curry, probably only because the Bucks system helps keep Jennings’ assists a little bit higher.

  6. Rose is definitely better than Rondo

  7. Kyle Goodman says:

It’s a good list. I appreciate throwing the young guys (Curry and Evans) a bone, though I think Russell Westbrook has to be up there before Curry and Evans. Evans should have been last.

I like where you put Rondo though. He’s mostly a defensive player but the fact is the guy is a disruptive force. I’ll never forget when the Cavaliers had to put Lebron on him to stop him, and not even that stopped him. Honestly, I’d like to see him and D-Will duke it out man to man. D-Will’s a better offensive player in the terms of a traditional pointguard (great passer, good outside shooter) but Rondo is like Gary Payton 2.0

  8. Aaron Vessel says:

Top 5 are right, but you have to have Westbrook and Jennings on there. Mo Williams is somewhere around #10-15 too.

  9. JC says:

I want to see what Jennings improves on this year; and yes, Team USA basketball has improved my feelings on Steph Curry whereas I haven’t seen Brandon Jennings since they exited the playoffs

  10. AAHHH! I knew I forgot someone, Brandon Jennings. This is pretty sad since he is one of my favorite point guards, however idk if I would have put him over curry or not, i really think curry has something going for him.

As for westbrook, I think he will be in the top ten after this next season. And with saying that, I think that Billups, Parker, and Kidd will all be lower after this next season too.

  11. David says:

    KYle u forgot me

    NBA 2k10 stats my player
    22.3 ppg
    5.1 rpg
    13.6apg
    2.6 spg
    0.6 bpg
    37 mpg

  12. Lee says:

I like it, just a few minor changes I would have made.
Dwill, Paul, Nash, Rose, Rondo, Billups, Westbrook, Kidd, Tyreke, Curry, Jennings.
I think the first five are given (other than Rondo-Rose), but after that, it is really hard to pick who.
Other guys were Devin Harris, Tony Parker, and Monta Ellis who should be up there but isnt because he is more of a combo-guard.

  13. David if I included you I would have to add my “my player” as well, I scored 105 pts in a game once.

  14. David says:

ya you probarly put all game slider up to the highest and shot everyshot on the game what a cheater
MY player is better the kyle player
and you forgot about Brandon Jennings and Westbrook

  15. actually you can’t change the sliders for “my player”, at least on my ps3. Its called taking only dunks and layups, and shooting 95% of my teams shots.

I did forget Jennings, and he would probably have been 9-11, but I didn’t forget westbrook, he’s 11-14.

  16. Diana says:

I like your list. I agree that Jennings should be on the bottom of your list, he was really coming into his own at the end of last year and into the playoffs.
I’m not completely sold yet with Westbrook as a top point guard in the league yet. I agree he shouldn’t be on the list He can’t shoot!

  17. BWright says:

I’d definitely believe Westbrook is better than Evans and Curry. Curry has REALLY struggled in the FIBA games with TO’s. Totally unimpressed with his PG skills. Guy can really stroke it though. Westbrook proved in the Playoffs last year against the Lakers and now in FIBA that he can push the ball and get to the line almost as good as anyone. He def needs to improve the J.
Would also take Rose over Rondo….give Rondo 10′ of space to shoot and you’re fine. Rondo’s a better defender though…prolly the best out of all of them (yes, even a better defender than Dwill).
Dwill is the best all around PG in the game….period.

  18. David says:

hahahaha deron williams is the best point guard in the world
and in my nba 2k10 best player in the game
Kyle why would not put westbrook a mean come one he improved his game from last year

  19. Jason Garner says:

i like it but i’d put rose and rondo over nash and paul here’s mine based on potential and age and a couple other factors.
    10. D Harris
    9. Parker
    8. Billups
    7. Evans
    6. Nash
    5. Curry
    4. Paul
    3. Rose
    2. Rondo
    1. D Will

  20. Jason Garner says:

no 10. is probly westbrook not harris my bad…

  21. Adam says:

Of course Deron is going to be the top point guard on everyone else’s lists on this site, so its not worth really saying anything. I’d be interesting in a ranking like this from a neutral, non-Jazz point of view and in the meantime will refrain from commenting.

  22. Joseph says:

Adam- I agree… now how do we go about doing this?

  23. @ adam and joseph, there is 9 other spots to fill which are nearly as biased

  24. Adam says:

@Joseph- That’s a good question. Certainly there’s got to be some writer out there on NBA.com, ESPN.com, SI.com, CBSsports.com, or some other place that decides to rank the top 10 players at each position.

@Kyle- Help me out on the point you are making just now. I don’t think I quite got that. Are you meaning that all 10 spots on Jazz fans’ top 10 PG rankings are biased. Well, yes, that’s true. I think the players you had in your top 5 are really fair, but I would struggle actually putting them in order because you can make a legit argument for either one of those top 5, so it’s not a clear outright best PG at this time.

  25. my bad, i was meaning all the other canidates are jazz members so lots of us have different opinions on them, and that is what i posted this for, two see where the other guys ranked.

  26. MY BAD, “all other canidates are “NOT” jazz members” man I really suck at typing today
