Who would you pick.

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

As far as I know the Jazz still have four spots left to fill on the roster. Every once in a while we have a new rumor like Mike James, Ryan Thompson, Elson, or someone else that may take up one of those roster spots. Which brings about the question, who would you choose to take those four spots?

Right now I would sign Fes for the qualifying offer, resign gaines unless we can score someother pg, add Louis Admundson, and then its a depends on who does better in camp between Evans and Thompson.

what about you guys?

Fes will probably resign, and so will Gaines. Amundson would add some needed depth at the PF position unless we sign the Rumored Elson.
I think Evans will be signed which means we’ll still need another wing player to backup Bell. Right now we don’t have a backup for him.

Wing Players: Hayward, AK, Bell, CJ, Jeffers (if resigned).

I don’t think Jeffers a legitimate backup yet. And if we don’t sign another player at the PF/C position than AK will be sliding up to PF. Which means we’ll only have 3 wings.

A wing player is more important to sign right now than a PF/C.

Center: Fes(if resigned), Okur (when back from injury) Jefferson.
    PF: Millsap, Jefferson, AK

If fes is resigned he could get some much needed starting time to push is development into overtime. He desperatley needs something like this to help his confidence and play like he did against denver all of the time.
Jefferson can slide up to the Center position when needed until Okur is back.

Millsap would start PF until Memos back. Plus AK would be back at PF hopefully putting a few 5×5’s this season.

Once Okur is Back the Lineup:
    Center: Okur:Fes
    PF: AJ:Millsap
    SF: AK:CJ:Evans
    SG: Bell:Hayward:Jeffers
    PG: Dwill:Price:Gaines

But the lineup is chaotic when Okur is out. So without Okur, we need a wing. With Okur we need solid PF or C backup to keep things in line.

  2. Unless Jeremy Evans really struggles in training camp, and the pre-season, he will probably make the final roster.

I don’t think Gaines getting a spot is a sure thing. He didn’t really impress all that much in summer league. I like the Thompson kid, but latest word is that he may spurn the Jazz and try out with the Spurs instead. Good luck making that roster (it’s loaded with good back court players already). Sometimes I think guys try out where they would most LIKE to play, rather then where they actually have a chance of making a roster.

Jeffers will have to play himself onto the roster. Fes…who knows what his future holds. One thing for sure…I don’t think his agent is doing him any favors. If the Jazz do sign Elson, then Fesenko’s spot might already be taken.

Were talking about spots 10-13 on the roster anyway. Hopefully, Memo will be back to form sooner rather then later, everyone else remains healthy, and we can have a solid 9 man rotation during the season. Most contenders don’t play more guys then that on a consistent basis anyway. It’s better when guys know their roles, and about how many minutes they are going to receive.

I think Gaines, Jeffers, and Evans are signed to a non guarentee contract, after sometime in Dec if they are still with the team it becomes guarenteed. Put Evans in the D-league and let him get some big time minutes. I hope Ryan Thnompson is still coming to training camp. I think he can make the team. I hope they invite little-Sap also. I don’t see Memo as a starter as long as Sap and AJ are doing their job. I think he would be better in the second unit anyway. I would like to see the Jazz trade and somehow get the two rookies in contract dispute with the Grizz. It would benifit everyone that Fess sign the contract offer. He would have one year to prove himself. He has done so in spirts only so far.

  4. Chase says:

Almost 100% positive Evans has already been signed.

  5. Evans contract is not guaranteed since he is a second rounder.

  6. Lee says:

If I could choose any player to sign from free agency,
    the Utah Jazz would look something like this;
    DWill-Price-Gaines
    Miles-Bell-Jeffers
AK-Hayward-Jarvis Hayes(pretty good shooter, above average defense)
    Jefferson-Millsap-Evans
    Okur-Fes-Earl Barron(can push Fes, and a good pick-and-roll guy)

  7. Colby says:

I would keep Fes. Sign Kirk Penney from the D-league(AMAZING shooter)and replace Jeffers with him.
Amundson and bring in some undiscovered gems to train.

Big Al at center(i don’t think people realize this is what he will be playing) With Okur and Fez
Paul Milsap/Amundson/Evans(rotating Ak and Big Al in and out as needed)
    Miles/Bell/Penney
    Ak/Hayward/hopefully find an undrafted gem.
    D-will/Miles/Gaines

  8. Kalab says:

    Colby, Miles at PG? Really?

  9. Steve says:

I’d go out and sign Earl Barron. I would love amundson… if he was a 7 footer, i see him as a less talented AK but a more talented Fes. I would sign Evans and gaines. I would bring back jeffers as well.
    Dwill-Price-Gaines
    Bell-Hayward-Jeffers
    Miles-Ak
    Milsap
    Jefferson-Okur-Barron
What i want to know is what do we do with our wings…
I want a vet with a young guy. Like what i have above. But what would be the best rotation… Bell and hayward at the 3. Miles at 2 and AK???
I’m kinda iffy playing hayward and AK together. they play similarly on offense both are playmakers and thrive on touches, and not that it would hurt each other, but both would benefit being on the floor at seperate times… thats what i think. Plus with that rotation, you get an offensive and defensive wing.

  10. Hayward will be a 3 he can’t play the 2 he is to slow for that I could see them moving CJ down tho the two though and maybe playing him along with AK and, bring bell off the bench this won’t be the opening game starting line up but i think midway through the season it will be
    1.Dwill, Price, gains
    2.Miles,Bell,Jeffers
    3.AK,Hayward,Evans
    4.AL,Milsap
    5.Okur,Fez
Ak will move up to the 4 from time to time when we play small ball and, maybe they will try Hayward out at 2 but, it won’t work out he isn’t fast enough for it

  11. Dave801 says:

Fesenko has the potential, but if Sloan can’t develop him no one can. I would sign him if they expect him to play a larger part on the team, if not cut him loose and let him have a career elsewhere. We need a better back up point guard, plain and simple Price would be great third option best as your second guy… doesn’t cut it.

  12. Adam says:

The Jazz are pretty much done. I honestly believe that the roster we have now will pretty much be the roster we will have in November. Yes, there are talks about the unguaranteed contracts of Gaines, Jeffers, and Evans, but don’t let that make you believe that the Jazz are going to cut all three and pick up four new players. Free agency is done. The three with ungauranteed contracts will make the team. They may not play all that much when the season starts, but they will make the team. With that in mind, lets look at the roster: Williams, Price, Gaines, Bell, Jeffers, Kirilenko, Miles, Hayward, Evans, Millsap, Jefferson, and Okur. That’s 12. I believe that Fes will re-sign, even if I don’t want him to. That’s 13. Rumor has it that Francisco Elson is a done deal. That’s 14. D-Will, Price, and Gaines have the PG spot down. Bell, Miles, Hayward, and Jeffers have the SG spot down. Kirilenko, Miles, Hayward, and Evans have the SF spot down. Millsap, Jefferson, Kirilenko, and Evans have the PF spot down. Jefferson, Okur, Elson, and Fesenko have the C spot down. We’re good. We really are. The Jazz have enough talent and versatility that we don’t need anyone right now. So there you have it.

  13. Adam why wouldn’t you want Fez to resign the kid is one of the biggest guys in the league and full of potential. he is athletic great around the rim and, half way decent on defence. the best part about him is he knows his position he isn’t like okur that sits out side allowing the other team the double up are power forward Fez know he has to play around the bucket making it easier for Boozer or next year Jefferson to get the ball and, do something with it. if i could coach i would let Fez start next year just for that fact that he would make Jefferson and, the whole team for that mattr play better then what Okur does. Elson is ok but, just to old to make anykind of impact for the jazz sorry i do’t see him helping us harldy at all
