Players Don’t Care

Okay so here’s the deal…..The players do not care how we feel as fans.  They do not care that by not playing, many small businesses will be out by next year because of the losses they will incur by not having game nights in their city.  You’ve got a bunch of greedy, selfish guys who never even got a decent education.  They probably don’t even know exactly what is going on because they are too busy partying in the clubs.

As far as Derek Fisher goes, he should be the last guy that is chosen to represent the players union.  The guy is a dirtbag who lies through his teeth to get his way and uses his daughters illness as leverage.  They need to have young players  who actually still have the burning desire to play the game and compete for a title.  Not an old fossil who has already won a few, and needs the extra rest.

Wow, it seems a little unfair to lump all people in any occupation together as “never even got a decent education, greedy, selfish who party in the clubs all night” Do you even know any NBA players? There are many who have great college educations, who give back to the coummunity and spend a great deal of time with their families. Besides I think it is important to keep in mind, they did not quit nor strike, they were “locked Out” of their places of employment. There is fault to be found on both sides of this dilemna, but blaming it all on one side or the other is absurd.

When you have an entire group of players part of a union that has proven it’s selfish, greedy nature, then it’s pretty easy to lump them together. Until I see these “many who have great college educations, who give back to the coummunity and spend a great deal of time with their families” standing up and thinking of other people who need business to feed their families, then I wont be changing my opinion. Sure I know there are some great guys out there playing in the NBA. But they need to be vocal about this and try to talk some sense into their fellow union members instead of “indicating a willingness to miss games”.

    Just kind of an afterthought…..

I know my original post seemed to drip with hatred for the players, when in reality I have met Boozer, Williams, Okur, Brewer, Millsap, and countless others…..including older players such as Tom Chambers and Darrell Griffith and many of them seem to be great individuals. But you can have a group of 20 people doing something wrong, with 5 kids who disagree with it. But if those 5 kids don’t stand up and make their voices heard, then what does it matter? Especially when their silence hurts more people than just themselves and a few around them.

My point is…..now is the time for these “good guys” to take care of their business and get something done so that they don’t lose their title of a good guy. Of course this is from a fan who desperately wants a season and is speaking largely out of emotion.

Also, if you want to use my words against me, please copy and paste instead of flavoring it with some of your own exaggerated words to make it sound more extreme.

I am sorry, I should not have used quotation marks unless I used your exact words, so here they are. Wow, it seems a little unfair to lump all people in any occupation together as “a bunch of greedy, selfish guys who never even got a decent education. They probably don’t even know exactly what is going on because they are too busy partying in the clubs”. I would change my comment if I could to reflect that.
I am sure there are players who are unhappy with what is going on, but at the same time one of the most important concepts in team sports is working together as one unit, supporting each other, having each others backs. A great example of what happens when players start to undermine each other is like when Mark Jackson was a member of the Jazz and was bad-mouthing John Stockton in the locker room, it ruined team chemistry and I am convinced it is one of the reasons Stockton retired when he did. I don’t think I exaggerated your words, but at the same time I can understand your frustration and bitter dissapointment about the state of the NBA right now. I guess the point I was trying to make in all of this is that the players are not refusing to play, they are prohibited from playing by the owners.

  5. The players are getting schooled right now by the owners … this isn’t even negotiating, the owners are taking almost everything they want.

These ‘negotiations’ aren’t even about money anymore, they are about principle. Any labor union that manages to lose this much ground has failed it’s members…

Too bad for the players, but it is a positive trend for the future of the Jazz and all the other small market teams.
