Let’s Get This Season Started!

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I’ve been a Jazz fanatic since birth. As a boy I used to listen to games on the radio (we didn’t have cable) in my bedroom and pretend I was Karl Malone playing in the game. I couldn’t wait for Hot Rod Hundley to call out “Karl Malone hammer dunk” to throw it down on the suction cup hoop on the back of my door. The coolest pair of shoes I ever owned were my Reeboks with Karl Malones name and number on the back. Every boy in 3rd grade wanted those shoes and it was a sad day when I outgrew them. I proudly wore my Jazz backpack all across BYU’s campus until I graduated this spring. I’ve read the sports section of the newspaper pretty much every day of my life except for the two years I spent in Paraguay and I love to read about all things Jazz.
That being said, I’ve never been more excited for a season to start! Kevin O’Connor and Jazz management have done an amazing job of assembling this team. The Al Jefferson trade was sheer genius and has to be up there with the Pau Gasol trade for best hijacking I’ve ever seen.
This years team has everything it needs to be a real contender. Al Jefferson is a fabulous low post player with good touch. He can get it done against the Lakers bigs unlike Boozer. Millsap and Jefferson complement each other well and play much better defense than last years starting PF and Center. CJ Miles looks like he can be counted on to be the offensive playmaker for a good second unit, which frees up AK to play in the starting line up. AK, Millsap and Jefferson can provide solid interior defense, something the Jazz have been lacking. Deron and Raja are a tough nosed guard tandem that can get it done on both ends of the court. Watson should be a solid back-up PG. Evans and Hayward have great futures and hopefully can contribute consistently during their rookie seasons. Fesenko’s weight is down and his basketball IQ seems up. If he keeps practicing free throws, he could play a big role this year. Elson was a great signing and brings size and toughness to help us beat the Lakers. I love this team’s dynamics.
I definitely believe we can contend with OKC for the division title and maybe for the best in the West (Kobe isn’t getting any younger and neither are his knees). This Jazz team is going to be exciting to watch! Go Jazz and let’s get it started!

i am very excited for this season to really start. The preseason has been fun.
I really admire fans who didn’t have cable growing up and listened to the games. Hot Rod sure did make it a lot easier to visualize what was going on when you couldn’t see the game.
I think we are a contender this year. Our bigs Al and Fess did an amazing job against the Lakers bigs. Evans also did decent on Odom last night.
Would’ve voted 5 stars if you weren’t from BYU …
j/k
haha. I thought about leaving the BYU part out, but the great thing about the Jazz is that the whole state is behind them. Two of my brothers went to the U and one went to Weber but we all cheer for the Jazz!
Hot Rod was great but I’m glad they don’t simulcast the games anymore. Bolerjack and Harpring are going to be great! I haven’t listened to Locke more than a couple times but he seems like he does a good job. That Gaines call against the Cavs was awesome.
Great post!
