2011: Enes Kanter
1st year, 13.2 minutes; 2nd year, 15.4 minutes
*2006: Paul Millsap (2nd Round #47 Overall Pick by Utah Jazz)
1st year, 18.0 minutes; 2nd year, 20.8 minutes; 3rd year, 30.1 minutes
Sloan played the #47 pick about the same amount of minutes over three years than Corbin has played TWO #3 picks (more in Millsap’s 3rd year than Favors in his 3rd year)?!
I think Corbin has had more than enough time, and it is about time the Jazz front office steps up and either fires Corbin or trades, at the very least, either Al or Millsap (in my opinion both). Adam Morrison (!!!) was given more of an opportunity in two years than Corbin has given Kanter thus far??!! That alone should get Corbin fired.

I agree that they need more minutes but I don’t think it’s all Corbins fault. Put some blame on the FO for giving him a poorly constructed roster. If we give Favors and Kanter more minutes over Al and Paul then their trade value will decrease. We just need to be patient until the trade deadline and hope that Favors and Kanter don’t get too disgruntled. Don’t get me wrong though, I don’t think Corbin’s rotations and adjustments are top notch either.
I understand the point your trying to make, its a good one, but its important to remember a lot of those guys were drafted to fill a need or void (a more accurae term) on their respective teams rosters. I wonder how many of them had to beat out a viable starter already on the roster.
I agree with Millslapped, this is more the FO’s fault than Corbins. Eithe way, its a frustrating situation for us fans and i’m sure favors & kanter on some level.
You guys are right; my fire Corbin sentiment has more to do will Corbin overall:
1) Watson
2) CJ
3) Howard
4) Bell
5) Al
6) Foye
7) Millsap
In that order. But I agree with you guys, in that FO has really done nothing to remedy the situation. I am not a fan of KOC, I just feel by year three, or that third year jump players make is delayed, and when they make that jump they might not even be wearing a Jazz uniform. I have a very bad feeling Jazz are resigning both Al and Millsap. FO needs to do something, and soon.
Corbin getting fired is one of those dreams we have that will never happen in real life.. @steve Millsap is not a viable starter ahead of Favors
Al and Paul’s trade value will never increase as long as they play at the same time. They don’t compliment each other defensively or offensively. So yeah it is Corbin’s fault for not having a rotation figured out by now…
Hopefully Favors lack of minutes is ONLY because of his foot problems, maybe trade Favors and Millsap for Irving…
Is FO at fault for lineup issues and less minutes for Enes and Favors. Definitely. Does Corbin have the power to play them over Al and Paul whenever he wants. YES. Its a tie. So Corbin only gets half the blame for lost development minutes. But he still gets blame. Why is no one worried about his other coaching deficiencies? He rarely calls timeouts to stop momentum. We have started games down 10 points with lack of defense and hustle for 2 years now. Play execution…Nope. He wont even try Burks or Hayward at PG even when we are desperate. So no creative thinking ability to adjust to problems or know how to use his best talent. Our best talent does NOT start games. Foye is NOT our best talent. He doesnt control his locker room. We are the 28th worst defensive team in the last month with some pretty damn good defensive talent on the roster.

and what will be the trade value of Al and Paul at the end of the year…… huh ??? 0……. but it’s still a FO problem
A Coach is here to Coach
Trade value is not his job
He’s paid to make win his actual team
The FO is paid to make win his future team
so Minutes and lineup is 100% Corbin job, and Corbin problem
@disco… millsap wasn’t a viable starter when favors was first traded here as a rookie? When millsap was averaging 16 & 8? no, your right, that is not viable starter status.
The stat is like Jazz have lost 12 of 13 1st quarters. The front line of Millsap and Al is bad (Foye compounds that). So I dont see how GMs around the league are not fully aware of Al and Millsap’s deficiencies. Just like most fans see it clear as day, GMs around the league, especially considering Al and Millsap will be FAs in like 6 months, are not going to give up quality for either if then without bad contacts being on the table.
So basically, the only thing attractive about Al and Millsap is the fact they have expiring contracts—off the court. Teams that want either if them want their contact, so I think its time cut our losses in terms of actual losses and in terms of failing to develop our youth over all, Favors and Kanter especially considering they are both #3 picks, so bench Al and/or Millsap will not hurt their trade value that much at this stage. Teams that want them will want their contact which doesnt change if they are benched or not.
Corbin has failed on so many levels, include last year he has forced scrub players down the faces of Jazz fans, mostly at the expense of young talent. Tinsley was clearly better than Watson last year, Watson complains and Corbin re-institutes Watson in rotation?! No control of team. Same thing with Millsap recently and Favors plays a low in minutes the following game?! Even now Corbin plays Watson who since getting all backup PG minutes, is shooting 8% from the floor?! In over 100 minutes of PT, Watson has 6 points?! 4 from the FT line. ONE basket in 110+ minutes?! Burks is a better ball handler, and superior offensively, yet Watson who has complained once before plays heavy minutes in the rotation. That right there says a lot about Corbin.
When Jazz drafted Kanter, they should have figured Al or Millsap has to be gone in a year or so; after Millsap rejected 8M per 3 year years, Jazz should have figured 9M is a starting point, and based on his recent comments, doesnt want bench minutes. I cannot figure out why both are still with the Jazz over a third of the season gone….

And KOC needs to wake up and do something.
It’s fairly ridiculous we have two #3 picks who aren’t getting near the court-time to develop as they need. They’re to the point (especially Favors), that if we want to see developmental leaps, they HAVE to be given the reins, given time on the court. We’re missing Mo to injury and badly need a PG and more specifically, one who can grow with this team. There are some great young PGs out there and honestly, anyone who can handle the ball well, make the pass and shoot from outside to keep the defenses honest would excel with our young group of guys. Bledsoe, Irving, Lillard, Wall, Rondo. All PGs I would over-trade for at this point. Jennings, Kemba Walker, Brandon Knight, Calderon are other possibilities.
I think in the case of Kanter there are circumstances that allow some leeway regarding slower development. The number of years he has played basketball. The lack of College game time. However Favors was the reason that the Dwill trade was allowed to go through, and with KOC trading for Favors and then picking up Kanter 6 months or so later you have to think that he had no intention himself in keeping Jefferson and or Millsap here long term. I suspect that he felt that Favors certainly would have gotten more time on the floor so that Jefferson or Millsap could have been moved on.
@steve right now Favors should be starting ahead of Millsap
@KC based off of a trade with one of millsap/AL, without including one of our young guys, and of those pg’s you listed, the only guys i see as tradeable are jennings, walker, bledsoe and calderon. I listed them in order of how much we would have to give up from most to least.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing Ramon Sessions, Dj augustine/george hill, or darren collison in jazz uni’s.
Brilliant post, Omar. Those numbers are pretty shocking. That says it all right there.
Notice that all the people who desperately try to defend Corbin and his lineups have nothing but half-assed excuses to make their cases.
This team does have “a legitimate need” to play Favors and Kanter. We’re in the bottom 10 of the NBA in defense. That is reason enough to play Favors and Kanter.
Plus if ever want Favors and Kanter to reach their full potential, there is more than enough “legitimate need” to play them as many minutes as possible.
No more excuses. No more justifications. No more pats on the head.
Either the Jazz fire Tyrone Corbin and bring in a coach who knows how to win and utilize his players, or the Jazz stay a .500 team forever.
Thanks, Nick.
This is getting beyond ridiculous! Sloan found away to get Mathews, an undrafted rookie, 24.7 minutes per game starting 48 games, yet Corbin cant find a way to increase Favors (#3) and Kanter (#3) minutes, despite Clearly being more efficient offensively, superior defensively to Al and Millsap.
And Watson, Watson……8% shooting. Need I say more. How many people would be talking trash about Burks if he was shooting 8%?!
supieror defensively, far n away yes… more efficient offensively? if you simply mean getting the ball in the hoop, sure. But are they more skilled offensively? No, not close, but both are getting better. Not trying to argue! just keep perspective… haha
But i am in complete agreement both need more time. Particularly we need favors to get minutes against opposing starters! We know he can produce against 2nd units, but if he is going to be the one to carry this team we need to see him do the same against the blake griffins, lamarcus Aldridges, and zach randolphs of the world. That is his next step, and it has to start soon!
Haha, I just meant per shot attempt:
Al: 15 shots for 16 points
Kanter: 5 shots for 6 points (15; 18
Favors: 7 shots for 9 points (14; 18)
Millsap is actually good in this regard
10 shots for 14 points
Remember, Jerry was forced to play Matthews, because of injuries. His defense and later his offense kept him on the floor even when players returned.
