Al to the bench?

Why not put Al Jefferson on the bench where he can be a primary scorer and will be a good compliment to Burks who can also score great and is a good slasher. Plus Kanter’s big presence at the defensive end can help him on defense because Paul wasent much help when they where on the court at the same time. Starters PG Mo Sg Hayward SF Marvin PF Millsap C Favors Bench PG Tinsley SG Burks SF Caroll PF Jefferson C Kanter.

The big lineup was our most efficient lineup last season which meant Paul was at the small forward. Unfortunately, Corbin didn’t like to abuse it. We will see what he does this season.

Al to the bench = 12 letters. Not Happening!
Way too good to be on the bench.

I really think Al needs to be moved at the beginning of the season so the Jazz can install a new (or old really) offensive system. Plus, I think Kanter is ready, but I really didnt hear Als name in trade talks more than Millsap. So I think its 50/50 right now.

I think if Millsap is moved, Jazz NEED to sign Ilyasova, that Euro contract is an agent ploy to get Ilyasova more money, Id say 8M is reasonable; he has a different skill set than Millsap is why Id pay him that much to be a backup.

If the Jazz move Al, Id be happy with Jason Thompson (about 5M offer sheet, contract in last year to backup Kanter), hes 6′11 and a good defensive player and banger, a tough guy.

    So either,
    Al, Kanter
    Favors, Ilyasova

    Or:
    Kanter, Jason Thompson
    Favors, Millsap

    Or w/o Al and Millsap:
    Kanter, Jason Thompson
    Favors, Ilyasova

I agree omar but the thing is that Ilyasova will never sign on to be a backup. He just had his big break and is not going to start over now. We would have to promise a starting spot to him.

  5. Omar says:

Ilyasova averaged 27 minutes last year, I think as long as he got paid he wont mind coming off the bench so long as he gets about 25 minutes.

Nets wont be able to afford him, Raptors and Bucks arent making the playoffs, Jazz are a move or 2 from being the 3rd best team in the West.

96 minutes between C and PF:
    Al 22, Kanter 18, Favors 8
    Favors 23, Ilyasova 25

    Plus Kanter is his homeboy!

  6. Guido says:

    too expensive to be bench

  7. disco says:

I like the Jazz becoming part of the nets trade for Dwight where we pick up the future picks and Lopez

  8. Zach says:

I don’t think he’d take that well and Guido’s right, you don’t want your backup center to be making the most on the team. I really think we need to trade him before the season starts. Favors and Kanter need minutes and I think we’ll lose them if we keep them in reduced roles. I’m really really tired of watching Al hold the ball for 20 seconds and then shoot and then just stand around on defense. Time to start moving the ball again.

  9. French Dude says:

sorry Omar, but i don’t think it’s a ploy, we heard about this here, AK is on the move and CSKA Moscow need a new SF/PF, and they have big money……….

Ilyasova to Spain for 3 yr contract?

    Jazzaholic

If the NBA is losing such quality to the Euro leagues, is it a sign that the NBA is losing it’s polish or are the Euro players just homesick.

Why still the Ilyasova talk?!? He is NOT coming to utah, period. He is having a tough time deciding on whether to sign a 5 year, $40 million contract w/ the bucks where he would start. Let alone what we could offer him, which would be only a 4 year contract coming off the bench. It isn’t happening, period.

On a different note, I agree w/ those who say we need to trade Al. Of course, what the problem has been is getting value back in trade of a $14 million contract. However, a Pau Gasol for Al swap would be perfect, imo. Now that LA has signed Nash, they will have 70 MILLION DOLLARS IN 4 PLAYERS THIS YEAR AND NEXT, AND THAT’S NOT INCLUDING RESIGNING BYNUM. Does anyone know how much that is in luxury tax? Approaching 50 million. That’s how much. For 4 players, when you need at least 12 on a roster, and Bynum isn’t in there? The Lakers are rich, but they’re not stupid. Gasol HAS to go for luxury relief. They obviously won’t give him up for nothing. Why not an expiring contract of Al and our GS pick? To close the deal we could even include a Steve Blake for Watson swap. That would save LA over 12 million this year, and yes, millions and millions next year.

The only stop to this other than getting both sides to agree is that LA’s luxury penalties really won’t kick in until the end of next year, so they really don’t have to make a move until the 2013 trade deadline and by then they may be so good that they won’t care how much the penalty is, but I doubt it. KOC should at least be on the phone, seeing if they’re willing to get relief now while still getting all-star caliber talent back in return.

A line-up of Favors, Gasol, Williams, Hayward, and Williams w/ Millsap being the main piece coming off the bench? We’re one of the top 4 teams in the west, all day.
