Starting Kanter?

Why do guys think Kanter Can’t start he plays better defense than Jefferson and we don’t need him to score that much. He is a little Raw on offense but he is better than you all get him credit for. I think he could be the starter for the jazz and all he would need to do is defend like he always does rebound and he can score every so often.

    I am 100% with you @Logan, absolutely!!!!! In fact, I think it would be better for his development to start with the 4 best Jazz players. He would be the 5th option so no pressure on him to get the ball in the post and have to create with no shooters like last year. Mavron, Mo, and Hayward can all hit the 3; last year (AS A ROOKIE!) Kanter was getting double teamed! Double teamed!!! They would collapse on him. Now as a starter, jazz have 3 players that can hit the 3 in starting line, teams wont double him. Lakers didnt double him and Kanter had his best game….against Bynum!!! Marvin is a good cutter, more problems. To me Kanter is a no-brainer. Unless Jazz get Gasol, Kanter needs to start…NO KAMAN.

    On defense, no contest with Al, and on FA attempts. I wont even argue that, its a given.

    Sign a vet FA center or pick one up in Al trade.

    The jazz would need to get rid of Jefferson for this to happen and I believe If they did trade him Kanter could fill the center position quite nicely.

    Unless he shows a huge improvement over the summer hes not ready to start. As much as I dont link Jefferson. Kanter is not a stater yet. Hes got to improve on many aspects of his game before he becomes a starter.Overall we have a serviceable big but not a stater.

  4. I’m the biggest Kanter fan there is but I’m with Mike. Here’s what I would like to see happen with the “bigs issue”: Trade Jefferson (as good as his offensive moves are, his defense is horrible, and he’s hurting the growth of our young bigs who could potentially become far better them him) for something like a three point shooter or a legitimate starting point guard. Then sign a young big like Ersan Ilyasova. Then we could start Favors at the 5 and Paul at the 4 and bring Kanter off the bench for significant minutes at least for a time until he is ready to take over the starting 5 spot then we could move Favors to the 4 and bring Paul off the bench. I would be very pleased with a line up of Favors, Paul, Kanter, Illyasova, and Evens as are bigs. I know it is small and it might need one more player to be complete but these 5 players could be effective bigs for years to come. I’m thankful for what Jefferson has done for us while he has been here but he needs to go. I love Paul too, he is a fighter but I think eventually he is going to have to accept his spot as a 6th man. In no less then two years from now. Kanter and Favors need to be starting. I think he would accept that role with no complaining too. NO KAMAN PLEASE.

    I think this could be Jefferson’s last minutes as a Jazz man. I really hope so.

  6. Jefferson comes down to simple math. We can’t afford his contract and resign our youth, sooner or later. I like trading him for a future top draft pick, which in the beginning would have a rookie salary.

    Silly silly silly.. kanter definitely can start. the kid has great post moves and oh yeah can FREAKING SHOOT!!!! maybe if the jazz had run plays where both he and the team can excel we wouldnt be having this convo. Mind you the same B.S was being thrown at favors in NJ but now everyone seems to be eating their words while jumping on his TOP(lol).. 3rd overall pick give the man some damm minutes instead riding the damm pine.This is a full year of training camp and summer league etc so his progress should come along great. if the jazz stifles him this season i hope he becomes good and just leave and terrorize this organization for years to come.

  8. Pintz well said!!

    its hard to give someone minuets when every time he catches a pass in the post takes 5 seconds to gather and travels. He does have the physical traits just hasn’t had enough time to develop 25 mins on the bench and slowly add to it will help him and the Jazz. Favors got starting minuets at the beginning the the year but he couldn’t produce it took him a while to develop. You cant expect Kanter to be a starter after his rookie year with only a shorten season under his belt.

  10. Well for me it is hard to give someone minutes that playsIso ball and holds the ball for 15-18 seconds and ruins ball movement but we seemed to be able to do that just fine

    @Dallan
    I bet its also hard for you to make the playoffs. But I guess thats what happens when you dont play your best player(its not even close) and only guy that can start on other playoff teams.

    I agree with Ryker and Mike. I love Kanter and I think he will be a starter in the NBA for a long time. But he will need drastic improvement from last year if he wants to start. Our coaches even said that he just wasnt in good enough shape to play big minutes last year. Give it some time.

    JRN5150, firstly Kanter has been at P3 a lot this summer. Then he is going to be at summer league. That is a lot of getting in-shape. Also, if you are mentioning Al and playoffs, you have something wrong with you. Maybe we don’t make it to the playoffs last year, but we do this year without Al. Without Al, Favors and Kanter would have had more time. Also, it was Hayward that really pushed the Jazz to the playoffs (and the unexpected injuries of Howard, CJ, Bell, and Watson.)
