Why Jazz Fans should root for Miami

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. The Thunder are our Division Rivals!!! Nuff said.
Also if it was OKC and the Jazz in the Western Conference Finals, Energy Solutions would be way more crazy, we have the best Fans in the NBA.
Durant is the enemy, I respect his game and demeanor, but he is the enemy. He is a 6′ 11″ Kobe Bryant on the court. Be careful, he could knock us out of the Playoffs every year for the next decade then we will see how much you like him.

yes!
u da best diana!
OKC right now is proving that small markets can be successful and that you can build your team through the draft. Kevin Durant signed an extension with OKC rather than running to a “big market” team where he could “have a chance to win a championship.”
Too many players think that playing for small market teams like the Jazz, OKC the Pacers, Denver Nuggets, Clevland, Toronto, Orlando, or anybody like that means you don’t have a chance at a championship due to the lack of $$ the origination has being in a small market. OKC is proving that being in a small market you can still win championships and be successful, much like the Spurs have been and the old Jazz.
Miami is trying to prove that if you want to be good you can’t be in a small market (Toronto or Clevland) and you have to have 3+ superstars on your roster.
TO me the question isn’t why shouldn’t we like OKC (our division rivals) but it’s what kind of NBA do I want to see in the future. I want an NBA where superstars dont run from their team when they lose, they stick their teams and try to bring championships to their cities like in the old days, or like last year with Dirk not every player running to the team that the other stars want to be on.
And besides that, say what you want about Kevin Durant, that guy is a class act. Russel Westbrook on the other hand is a jerk. But I’d take Durant winning a championship over Lebron any day and I’d take ANY small market beating a big market team any day of the week.
I’m usually gonna root for the West team over the East team unless its Lakers or Spurs. They’ve definitely won enough. Otherwise, want the West team to represent and to prove that this is the better conference (and thus more impressive when the Jazz win in it).
Miami has the arrogant superstars (‘take my talents’, ‘not one, not two….’) while Thunder have the humble loyal superstar.
Westbrook’s matured, though I’m still not sold on him. Durant is great. Perkins and Fisher added…ugh. Still, I’m rooting for the Thunder.
LeBron could have joined a complete team like the Jazz were at that time and completely dominated forever. But he didn’t. He joined up with Byuddy Dwyane Wyade and Chris Boshasaurus and thought that would mean championship after championship.
That said, where were the whiteout T-Shirts for the Jazz fans, Greg Miller? I’ve been impressed with OKC and their management, fans, team, and luck.
Plus the Thunder beat Dallas, the Spurs and the Lakers on their way to the Finals. How can you not root for a team that humiliated all three of those hated Jazz rivals??
Until OKC actually stands in the Jazz’ postseason way and beats them, I have no reason to not root for them.
If this werev a debate it was not even close. What KC and brandon said put it in complete perspective.. I hope the Heat never win.. Nuff said…
Sorry, anyone who can beat out LAL, Chicago, or Miami has my vote. Sorry. I dont like all the whoop-la about how the superstars are unbeatable. So I dont want them to ever have a ring while they are playing together.
Second your theory makes no sense. Your picking one enemy over another. If my Jazz team isnt in it, I cheer the team that can beat the enemy I dislike most. So pick your own worst enemy teams, and let the rest of us choose ours.
One could even argue that indirectly LBJ signing with Heat created an aftershock of panic in small market superstars, i.e. Melo, Howard, AND D WILL. LBJ planted that seed and all of a sudden it was about clique-ing up and avoiding signing an extension. KD did the opposite and signed a long-term extension, so ya, the championship represents that so Ill cheer OKC.
Having said that, I hope Westbrook breaks his leg.
And for the record, Allan and KG were TRADED to Boston. Big difference.
It’s dumb to say you should not root for OKC since they are in the West. Guess what! The Heat are a rival as well. They can beat the Jazz and keep them from getting a ring just as easily as the Thunder can.
Sorry, I’ll stick with my Western Conference brothers.
The humble and awesome Durant and Maynor.
The small market team, (it’s friggen Oklahoma, enough said)
Not sure how you figure LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Chalmers, Battier, Miller, Cole, Turiaf, Anthony, Howard, Haslem, Curry, Pittman, and Harris are not the enemy.
but you pick on Durant.
I’ll hedge my bets with OKC, my 2nd favorite team even from their Supersonics days.
OKC all the way. They are a fantastic team to watch. I find miami’s iso offense to be painful and boring to watch.
I also prefer Durant to Lebron, both on and off the court.
OKC is a spectacular, likeable team. And my biggest deciding factor with ANY team playing against Miami? THEY DIDN’T DISGRACE THE GAME OF BASKETBALL LIKE MIAMI DID!
Durant is a spectacular young player with an old-school demeanor and view of loyalty. If the Jazz aren’t in the equation, Oklahoma is my favorite team other than the Timberwolves.
In my view, anyone who honestly roots for Miami is rooting against teams like the Jazz. Small market teams and teams with undesirable locations are being slowly burnt to the ground by teams like Miami, with their superstar gatherings. If teams like Miami are allowed to prosper in their current climate, I don’t see the point of having 30 teams. Cut it to five and be done with it. Destroy the league, rather than have it slowly deteriorate. Stop embarrassing teams like Charlotte, New Jersey, Utah and Phoenix by making their losses all but inevitable.
AND THAT IS WHY I HATE THE HEAT!!!!
Westbrook is a rock, but damn these NBA refs are trash. How many games did Pierce foul out of? KG and Rondo in foul trouble?? Game 1, Harden foul trouble, Game 2, Durant in foul trouble.
BS no calls on Durant and Westbrook. I hate this game.
The refs definitely did what they’re being paid for; Call it slyly in favor of the bigger names. Reminiscent of Jordan’s “flu” push-off. Ridiculous.
Im all for the small market team getting it done. It gives me some hope. I dislike most the large market teams….they always get the good players and yes Im jealous. Us small market teams have to work harder at drafting and developing talent…….Also It does seam like the refereeing is getting worse or people are just not afraid to point it out anymore . It needs to be overhauled. Give me some consistency please!
MJ was the master of the double standard. He got to hand check, but if you breath to hard on MJ its a foul?!
Not only did he push, but he played illegal D (doubling Malone before Malone had ball), hacks Malone, chop-blocks to get lose ball, then pushes off!!!!!!!
Doesnt all fines go to charity?? I be like Rondo and call refs and players every chance I got.
we should route for Thunder if we want management to seriously consider how the thunder got ahead. It wasnt by “growth from within”. sure they had a core and star players with Durant and westbrook. But they kept adding peices and stayed aggressive with trades and picks and FA. Hardin, Obaka, Perkins, Sefalosia, And even Fisher. All those extra pieces are what make them a contender and complete the thunder team. Infact in tonights loss those additional players continued to close the gap on the heat when Durant and Westbrook came out with foul trouble.
I hope our management at least tries to continue building to surround our future talent instead of just outright relying on the 4 guys we have now.
I’m rooting for Miami just because I’m tired of the absurd LeBron / no ring memes. (“I’m setting my phone to the LeBron tone, silent, no ring” etc.) Yeah, his TEAM hasn’t won a championship. HE is still indisputably one of the top 5 basketball talents ever to play the game, and arguably #1 or #2. I’d have him 2nd behind Jordan. He’s not going to have the 2nd-best NBA career legacy in history, but he’s the game’s 2nd-best player ever.
For the record, John Stockton is #3 on my list. It’s insane how underrated Stockton is, especially considering everything he accomplished in his time in the league. He’s the best offensive player in the league’s history – the guy had years where he had the highest true shooting % in the league while also leading the league in assists, creating like 50 points a game just with his skillset.
You cannot convince me to root for Miami, it is ridiculous how that team came together, that would never happen in a small market. I want to root for a team that i can compare to the jazz and i will always support small market teams first. Just because i root for them doesnt make me a fan of them. Also i think Jazz fans have something to learn from Thunder fans, they hardly ever sit down.
After game 2 I think Stern must be rooting for Miami too
Im with @Disco, the bad part about Durant being such a nice guy, is that he wont complain like Vogel, KG, and Rondo.
LBJ is by a longshot NOT the second best player ever. He has a long list ahead of him. He is only the Third best at being AAAAAArogant… Thirty years from now when it is revealed Stern did have it all fixed for years what a surprise..
I’m with Brandon b, KC, and Andrew. The Thunder kind of represent small markets everywhere. It’s big money verses small money. It’s superstars verses teams. It’s assholes verses nice guys (minus Fisher).
Arrogance and ego verses loyalty and humility. It’s the bad guys verses the good guys, plain and simple.
No one who truly loves the game of basketball can root for Heat. They represent all that is wrong with current state and trend of the NBA.
The Thunder represent what’s really wrong with the NBA – the Sonics got this team by tanking for multiple seasons, dismantling their team, deactivating players, basically losing on purpose for a couple of years to win big in the lottery. The draft system is by far the worst system in the NBA.
There’s been an idea fronted by some sources where the draft order should make it such that teams draft based on the number of games won AFTER they no longer could make the playoffs, with tiebreakers going to whomever had the worst overall record. This gives teams an incentive to play hard for all 82 games, as opposed to the current system which promotes hardcore tanking, sometimes even for teams which are still in contention.
@Chris, The city of Seattle paid dearly for tanking. People stopped going to games and the $$ wasn’t coming in enough to support building a new arena. Tanking lost them their team.
Ask Charlotte how good tanking went for them this year.
But I do agree, the draft system is bad everywhere. The lottery at least helps a little in saying you have the best CHANCE at the #1 pick. The NFL the worst team is Guaranteed the first pick. Like with the Andrew Luck fiasco that took place with the Colts. They tanked and got what they wanted. This year Charlotte tanked, had the worst winning % ever, and didn’t get the first pick. So it’s a little better than others.
The problem is that the one big star is so much more important in the NBA than in other sports. There are only 5 guys on the court at any time and every guy has to play offense and defense. The impact is a lot different from 1 of 5 as opposed to 1 of 22, even though the QB is about as impactful as others multiple players combined. Additionally, the NBA has a system in which those star rookies are severely underpaid compared to their value, so the teams with them are at a financial advantage also in free agency / trading etc. It’s not like the Thunder are great just because they have Durant and Westbrook. The reason is that they have those guys at a major discount from their true value in addition to other key pieces like Harden and Ibaka. This lets them fill out their team with much higher quality players than what other teams have access to because other teams’ big stars are making big star money (see: Kobe Bryant, almost $30 mil).
