Why the utah jazz are important to utah.

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. Before we go into this, I want everyone to understand that I do not write blogs very often. In fact, this is my first one I decided to do, being sick and bored. So I’m not going to pretend like I’m one of those professionals that do this every day, cuz I’m not.
Everyone knows we are in the boring part of late summer (except for college football starting.) and we are scraping for any bit of news now in the NBA. Sorry, but the world championships don’t seem as exciting.
So it got me thinking, why do I spend so much time following a sport? More importantly why do I follow this sport in the off-season and why do I care so much about what happens to our utah jazz? So I decided to make a list of why the Utah jazz are important to me and just about everyone.
1. Whether you like it or not, the jazz are the only “real professional” sports team in Utah. Sure we have RSL and they’re awesome, but all of you utahn’s should know what I mean. I would say the Utah jazz get more national media than any other team in Utah right now. Sorry Cougs and Utes, but more out of state people probably know the Utah jazz more than BYU or Utah.
So what I’m trying to say is: when people in America look at Utah sports, what comes to mind first? The jazz. So the jazz are kind of like our state representative. When the jazz look good, Utah looks good. Gotta look good around the other states.
2. Those fun nights in the ESA. Because the jazz are in competing in most of their games, 99% of the time you go watch a jazz game it’s way fun. Especially if we win. You get to sit back, relax (or go nuts in the rowdies section) and enjoy a competitive game between two good teams. You get popcorn and a date, and you are set for a fun time. And because of our great home record, you usually end up in a satisfied drive/walk home with another jazz victory.
3. The family like atmosphere of the jazz organization. I don’t know exactly why, but we jazz fans care about the players and staff of the jazz. I think the fans bond with the players over the seasons. Even if the players don’t really bond with the fans. That’s why I think jazz fans get mad when we lose a good player. Even if we replaced a Deron Williams with a Chris Paul or Steve Nash, it wouldn’t be the same because all of those D-will memories are out the window.
Not to mention the tremendous amount of respect jazz fans give to the coaching staff. Particularly Jerry Sloan. Very few question any of his decisions.
4. The crazy/fun stuff we do to support our team. I’m not totally crazy, but I did once paint blue on me and put on a whole jazz outfit to a game. And I was loud as ever. I did whatever I wanted in the crowd. I’m surprised I didn’t get thrown out. That was one of the funnest (is funnest a word?) nights of my life. Even though I was a complete idiot. I’m sure we have plenty of memories of crazy stuff we did to help our jazz.
5.Bonding between the fans. I met my future best friend at a jazz game. And there are plenty of good jazz memories between us. I also have plenty of memories of going to friends houses and watching/partying jazz games. All of us would making fun of the other teams and the funny looking refs. I have similar experiences with my family also.
There’s just something about the Utah jazz that brings people together. More than even BYU/Utah football games. In fact, jazz games are the only place I can think of that BYU and Utah fans can get along nicely. We all gather together for one cause. And that cause I think is to support a great basketball team that represents us, the people of utah.
Finally 6. Memories like these. (I don’t know who these people are)
and finally
feel free to add your own reasons.

I hate the summer for this reason. No basketball, I caught myself watching some WNBA ball today, PHX vs SEA.. Interesting and I see that the NBA is much better.
The Jazz organization is the Rep for Utah and the Loyalty is extremely solid between players, staff and the fans.
Only a few more weeks until Pre-Season! I’m getting excited for the new season and to see our Revamped team in action!
Comment on number one. No need to throw the Cougars and Utes in that conversation like you did. They aren’t professional. Just college.
Didn’t RSL win a championship?
Just throwing that out there
@ adam your right sorry but I’ve talked to some people that think Cougar basketball is better known than Jazz basketball, which makes no sense to me. That’s why I put that up there, to help those type of people who don’t know what they are talking about.
@ Justin yeah I know, that’s kind of what I meant when I said “They’re awesome”
@Morgan- Ok, with that said, you may be right, but out of state college football fans are very well acquainted with BYU and Utah right now and in terms of being well known nation-wide, if they aren’t equal with the Jazz, they aren’t far behind.
Also, Kelton is right. Even though I am not a soccer fan at all, there are two professional sports teams in Utah. One of them has won a title and that team is NOT the Jazz. You have to include RSL in the conversation when you talk about Utah professional sports or else you are throwing out the only professional team that has won a title in Utah. I hate to say it, but RSL has accomplished more than the Jazz.
With the Cougs signing on with ESPN and Utes moving into the bigger conference they are getting some bigger attention… I mean whens the last time that the Jazz had a 2 page Sports Illustrated article written about them?
I do agree with you saying “the bonding of the fans” I went to a Jazz game with my brother… we sat up in the “pigeon poo” seats and those are where the real fans are. When Carmello Anthony started shooting free throws we started yelling DUI… not very good but it was fun.
@Adam. I dont know what I said that is right? It may have been a long time ago… thanks for remembering!
If someone is so bored that they watch the WNBA that is the bottom of the well. I would rather watch Hillary Rotten Clinton give a speech. Watching the WNBA is like watching a bunch of girls play..
ya rsl won kelton
and i watch it at home in HD IN MY FLAT SCREEN TV
wait not kelton i mean justin
