Andrei Kirilenko; The Pesky Timberwolf

Posted by: Andrew on July 27th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Andrei’s the newest addition to my second favorite team, though they sort of just took a step down in their appeal to me by this addition.

It’s not that I don’t like Andrei, or that I don’t think it’s great that he’s decided to play in the NBA again, but he’s sort of been a household name to me since I was a kid, and always one of my favorite players (Except recently) and the fact that he signed with the Wolves over the Jazz is a bit of a disappointment to me, not because I think he’d make our team better, but because he’s a familiar face. It’s a bitter-sweet breakoff, but overall I think it’s for the best. The Wolves can now make sure their bench is absolutely held down at all times, it’ll never fly away with Andrei around.

In all honesty, I wish Kirilenko the best and hope to see him do well after a fantastic season for Moscow. I don’t think that spectacular play will translate over as well into the NBA, though. I think he’ll still be a great role-player, but no MVP (If he can stay healthy)

What are your thoughts? Do you think he’ll be more pesky as a Timberwolf than he was as a benchweight for the Jazz?

  1. I have a feeling AK and Brandon Roy will get to know each other well in the physical training room.

Bahaha Oh, the poor Timberwolves…I hope Rubio pans out and isn’t hindered by this injury of his. He’s a great player, and the Wolves are kind of like the talentless little brother in the family; You want to see them succeed, but it’s always an uphill climb. I like the team and the players, I just hope they can win.

  3. Guido says:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I want to kill myself this bull crap!!!!!!!!! Im gonna cry see him in another shirt in Utah… twice.

  4. Matt says:

20 million dollars for half a season of back spasms. Thats all I think.

Two western teams with super poisonous contracts in the Wolves and Portland. Makes the future look brighter for us.

  5. Kevin says:

I LOVED Kirilenko back before he started playing World of Warcraft. Once he got addicted to that, his production decreased significantly. It sucks to think of what could have been if he hadn’t had so many injuries and stupid hobbies.

  6. Andrew says:

Guido, his player potential is limited to virtually nonexistent. He’s a terrible match for a team attempting to win a championship. It’ll be a little bit of a wrench to see the face in the other jersey, but it’ll be no skin off our backs, and I’d say that’s a win.

  7. Logan says:

I heard that Derrick Williams was a little anoyed by all the moves they are trying to make to fill up the position he plays. Jazz should go after him

  8. Andrew says:

I was thinking that myself. He’d be an awesome addition to the young up-and-comers.

  9. Jake says:

I wish AK47 the best don’t ass a Jazz fan I’m not to thrilled about playing 4 times a year his offence is pedestrian at best but his shot blocking ability is awsome. I how ever I cant wait to see Hayward stuff him in the post

  10. Dave Leeky says:

Perhaps a bit early but Derrick Williams is a bust.

    - Under-sized for a 4.
    - No real post game for a 4.
    - Not enough handle for a 3.
    - No real range on his shot for a 3.

Over-paid (not his fault), thinks he’s better than he is (his fault); so no thanks I’ll pass. Clearly the Wolves don’t believe in him either.

Nobody should have any hard feelings against Andrei since we didn’t make him an offer or show any interest in him at all. I’m certainly less upset seeing AK go to the Wolves than a large market bandwagon team. I don’t like that he’s in our division though from a competitive standpoint. He makes the Wolves better and they could give us plenty of trouble in the next several years. I always liked the guy. I wasn’t once to hate him just because of his contract. He’s one of the few NBA players that gets paid for his defense. I expect AK will do well in Minnesota’s system as long as his body holds up. I wish him, but not necessarily the T-Wolves, the best of luck.

  12. KCJones says:

Andrei feels like a young deer these days, you know. Prancing around in the meadows, eating some grass. How will he fare in the den of wolves in Minnesota? We’ll see. But $10M a year is way too much. At least the years were reasonable at 2.

Still, with all of Minnesota’s additions this year, I think they’re going to be tough. Shved, Kirilenko, Brandon Roy, Chase Budinger. Rubio should return from ACL tearage. They let loose Beasley and Wes Johnson. Surprisingly un-Kahn-like, but I see those as good moves that make their team better.
