Jazz Need a Big Man

Posted by: Braden Powell on June 29th, 2010

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

We all know it, the Jazz need a big man. Not only to back up Okur but to compete with the L.A Lakers. With the probability of Carlos Boozer resigning with the Jazz very slim we definitely need at least someone big enough to play PF. But it would be nicer to have someone who can play both PF and C. The free agent market offers a great big man, who can play both. Amare Stoudemire. I think he would be a great versitile player for the Jazz. He can take Boozers spot, and backup Paul Millsap, but can work as a center with Okur.

The only problem is we wouldn’t be the only one going for him. If the Jazz tried to get Stoudemire they would be competing with quite a few other teams, and most have more cap space to give him up to a max contract and sign another player at a max contract.

    It is true, we do need a big man, but who can we add from free agency(with a minimum contract), that will come in and be a big upgrade from Fes? Some I can think of would be;
Rasho Nesterovic, Fabricio Oberto, Johan Petro, Hilton Armstrong, Ian Mahinmi, Kwame Brown, and Theo Ratliff,
but are these guys good enough to be able to compete with the Lakers? Cause we don’t have the cap space to add anyone good enough and the Jazz most likely won’t use there midlevel.

  2. I think that this year (for the first time) Greg Miller will go over the salary cap, as long as it makes the team better. So they don’t have to do a minimum contract. That would make them able to get a big free agent like Stoudemire.

  3. Jason says:

We don’t need Amare. He’s not much better than Boozer is. He doesn’t play defense which was one of our biggest gripes about Boozer. No thanks. He’s not worth a Max contract in Utah.

Go sign a big man who can play defense. That’s what we need. Not another 20-10 big man who only scores.

  4. Lee says:

I agree, we don’t need Amare, I would rather just have Boozer.
And we couldn’t afford him anyways, the most we could offer him would be the mid-level exception since we are over the cap.

  5. Henri says:

Amare always looked an awkward player to me. Boozer is more consistent and knows Utah better. My favorite Boozer’s replacement would be David Lee. But you need somebody else to catch up faults in the paint.

  7. Jaron says:

Big Ben Big Ben Big Ben Big Ben, you can sign him and resign Boozer and you’re instantly 10 times better defensively on the inside, and when you need scoring you just sub Memo in, he is by far the best cheap option that allows us to still go after a big name like Boozer, Lee, or Stoudemire (i think you’re dreaming with him just to be honest)and who wouldn’t get chills hearing the Big Ben bell ringing throughout EnergySolutions arena when he throws down a serious dunk off of a Kirilenko miss? I know you’re all getting chills just thinking about it

  8. gardner says:

I think we may be seeing Beesley heading out here from Miami in a sign-and-trade for Boozer.

  9. Justin says:

Haywood is good. There is no doubt about it; however, we definitely need a big man. We lose every year to the Lakers because they have 3 big men down low that box us out every time. If we actually want a chance at this thing we are going to have to get a big man!
