Thoughts on the game

1) Foye makes bad decisions with the ball. He does not see the floor. He had Kanter on 2-3 pick and pops and did not pass it to him. He got in the lane a couple times and had no idea what to do. He is a good spot up shooter as Amar said to me during the game. But I do not think it is good for him to get to many minutes. Kanter could have had an even more impressive stat line.
2) Favors I am sure is going to be a hot topic. He did not have a good offensive game. But did he get the ball? From what I saw he only got the ball once where he could do something with it effectively and he got fouled and made a free throw. He got hacked a couple times with no calls. He still had no respect from the refs. But it does not help to have Palmer she is a joke. He did effectively handle defensive assignments and had some good blocks and one called back which was not a foul.
3) Hayward struggled 1st half but was on in the 2nd half. He does so much on the floor you can still root for him all game even if he does not have it offensively. That is a good player if he can affect the game positive but shoot poorly. He was aggresive all game though. H got to the foul line and we were in the bonus a ton because our players were aggresive
4) Al stepped out on P&R!! I was pleasantly surprised to see this. It was better but let’s see him continue to do it. Still missed some things on the defensive end but it was better. Lets hope it is consistent though. He has good games lets see it for a season
5) Our offense looked good, much better then throw it in the post to Al. I loved watching it was exciting again
6) Kanter is a beast. I think he has solidified himself to take minutes. I think Favors needs to really step it up or maybe he will be the one with less minutes.
7) I still think Favors should start still our defense is just better with him in there. Plus the 2nd unit needs something. I think Millsap is that person. Someone to keep the defenses honest. I would love Al to be on the bench but that is not going to happen. I think Favors could be better offensively with Millsap but I am not sure. We are not seeing a ton of confidence from him..

I think we are not watching same team games…mmmm 2 points:
1) Im really suprised about this guys atlethism, and Im gonna say this one time: How Ty survive in this league… for several years… hard work. OMG I was looking on Enes “5 burritos breakfast” Kanter and its a GREAT surprise, I love that reverse dunk.
2) Im worry bout Gordon’s inconsistency… u remember some CJ’s guy sickness??? maybe was like flu symthoms… Foye is same story guys… Im start thinking on give 20+ minutes to Burks… Im tired of “sunny days” players.
One thing I really love was watching Mo talk trash!!! Loved that, Jazz need some swagger, Mo the man.
I was really pushing for Jazz to trade for Marvin and he is easily the most consistent player so far. Love Marvin.
Remember when ppl were calling Kanter a bust in June (SL), wow were you wrong. See what playing time does???
If you are arent excited bout Burks, then you are either a Debbie Downer, dumb, or just plain being a Hater. Get over it.
Favors seems to struggle when the refs play him out, we looked like beast mode on for the first minutes then fouls and no calls threw him off. I still think at this point in his career hes better at the 5. And cuz of that he play fabulous with Millsap. So far ZERO minutes with Millsap, so look for his game to improve when they are on the floor together.
Al did play the P&R better, still was out of place sometimes and fouled, but thats preseason. What I really like is that he either passed quickly or made move quickly. A few times he reverted to Iso Al, and Harpering would point it out. Al IS a rotation player NOT a franchise player: so as long as he gets about 20 minutes, 8-10 shots, and plays better D, Im cool with that. He can be what Carr was for Jazz in those title runs of late 90s, but should not be centerpiece of team.
If you dont love Hayward, there must be a black cloud that hangs over your head as you walk. Hayward seemed like he was flying around even though his shots were not falling–usually its the other way around and players tune out and pout, not Hayward though.
Get excited Jazz fans!! If we minimize Al, Jazz can easily make the playoffs, and only Spurs scare me. F the Lakers, OKC Clippers and Heat.
oh yes. I love that trash talk too.
I just realized I did not talk about Marvin. He was a great addition and just adds into the team. He is not me first. He just gets the ball when he needs to. He has impressed me. I watched synergy on him and did not expect much. He is giving me more then that.
But like I said with Foye. He in no way should be taking minutes from Burks. There is no question who has more talent
It slightly worries me that Favors offensive game seems to have dialed off during the off season. That said I think he works better offensively with Millsap, rather than Al or Kanter. Millsap has the range in his game that allows Favors to go to the area of the floor that he prefers. So offensively I will wait to make a judgement until Favors and Millsap spend considerable time on the floor together.
At this stage against the Mavs I would prefer to start the game with Favors on the floor and Al coming on and hammering away against the second unit.
What I like about Hayward is that even when he doesn’t have his shooting on target he still gives his effort on the defensive game and still is a good teammate. The good thing about him is he does have an offensive game, if he starts poorly he adapts and comes onto a game later on. He is inconsistent, but many times I’ve watched him not shoot well in the first or second quarter but by the 3rd or 4th he shoots better. That is the reverse of some people. He gets better as the game gets more critical. He’s frustrating because you know what he’s capable of, but he just might always be the guy who wants to concentrate on doing the critical unsung team work at the beginning of the game and then making himself more available for shooting later.
Foye is earning $2m a season for a reason but that said he is going to give Burks the necessary kick up the backside that he needs. I like Burks, he has the skills, but he tends to impact the game by himself instead of including his teammates. He needs to realize this is not Colorado, this is the NBA, and yes sometimes he can do it himself but other times he needs to involve his team. Foye is enough of a pro to know what his role is, Burks needs to learn his. There is a place for both players, certainly while Burks grows into his NBA game.
Players missing and pre season game to put in perspective.
OKC team Durrant is the only superstar. If he goes down they will have problems. With either Marvin of Gordon guarding him I think the Jazz will be one of his tougher games. They have two young Centers that are getting better after a rough first few years.
Of the camp invitees I think Butch and Gilder have no chance of making this team. Quinn and Jackson might make the team but with a glutton of guards kind of puts Quinn on the outs. I will go out on a limb and say the Jazz will settle the Bell thing and Jackson will make the team.
Last nights game I was most impressed with Kanter and Marvin. After Kanter dunk you could not wipe the smile off of his face. Big Al was thrilled. Kanter is a very impressive rebounder. He is learning from both Sap and AL. Because of the chemistry between him and Al, Al will not be traded. (Sorry for those of you who want him gone so bad.) Trade deadline could tell the tale. Pre-season, so Favors will get better. I will join the group and say he will need to start and play his thirty minutes. I think he can play both the four or five. I think Sap could be used to back up both Marvin and Favors. This way he too could get near thirty minutes.
IMHO Mo is clear cut better than Harris.
Hayward should get his thirty minutes at the two and three.
Burks could also be in the mix at three positions.
Evans played well but where to fit him in??
Foye, Watson, Tinsley,Carroll,Jackson, support roles in case someone goes down. Murph to the D- league to start.
Kanter needs more minutes as he deserves it.
Some have mentioned a trade of either Sap or AL. Problem is getting something of equal back. Injury free season is almost impossible. I have watched the old ABA Utah Stars and the Jazz since they got here and I cannot remember a team with more depth than this year. A few years back there were always a couple of throw ins to complete the roster. Trade deadline will be a key..
@L.K I wonder if that is why Jackson played more then anyone else as far as the back ups go. If they see something out of someone they would make a move. I would hope after this weekend some of the players get cut. I was surprised we did not all ready cut some of them.
Yeah, its important to remember this is preseason…
1. Harward looked good, he was aggressive and looked to get himself going, which for him, is a dramatic improvement! He missed a couple shots, but got to the line and i will take that.
2. FOYE IS NOT A PG. SO DON’T JUDGE HIS GAME THAT WAY. He’s a scorer that was forced to play the point last night. He will be a very important part of this team.
3. Burks looked really good but… Harpring brought up a point during the game that he was ranked last in assist ratio among SG’s, which didn’t bug me at the time, but as the game went on he had a few opportunities to make a pass and didn’t. One could have been to Kanter, right after kanter had threw down that mean reverse the play before.
4. Favors is going to be a game changer. what did he have, 3 or 4 blocks? The offense will come, but he is looking strong.
5. I LOVE MO AND MARVIN. These guys are tremendous upgrades over what we have had. Mo brings a confidence and swagger, and Marvin just played hard and took it to durrant on the defensive side.
yeah! williams brothers baby!
@Steve I would say Foye is a spot up shooter. Not really a scorer. He does not get shots at the rim. He does not go to the line. He is a spot up shooter and that is it.
Favors did look good though. His offense to me was not an issue. He got the ball on a play for him once all game. How do you expect someone to put up points without running plays for him? That is why I think he fits better with Millsap. There offensive and defensive games work together. Where as I feel like with Jefferson, Favors offensive game is diminished. Hopefully we will get to see Favors and Millsap at some point.
I would bet Butch and Gilder are gone on Monday. Jazz signed a Isreal (SP??) point guard but had trouble with a visa. I wonder if he will make it for a showing? Jazz are pretty high on him. Another thing I noticed when Favors got the ball underneath the basket there were several times he was triple teamed and fouled. Another thing to learn but look out when he does.I think Murph will be fine but there are too many vets ahead of him. Let him play serious minutes in the D-league. But Jazz like new rookies to watch from the bench. Also noticed the Williams did not have a MO, or MA on their jersey. Not hard to keep them apart as Marvin is much taller.
@dallan foye is way more than a spot up shooter… yes that is how he puts up big numbers. but saying he is simply a spot up shooter, it just doesn’t even come close to describing his entire game. He has tremendous ball handling skill and playmaking ability. Thats how he has been since his days at villanova. Growing up in new york you will learn how to break down a defender or two. haha
Here’s a link to Randy Foye working us last year. Your DALLAN he does spot up a lot… BUT there is plenty more to offer!

As long as Al stays at a rotation player position, I can live with him staying. But FOR SURE no more freaking 17 shots per game and 34 minutes. Kanter has prove he needs minutes. So has Favors consideeing he was the best D player against Spurs.
Millsap and Favors need to start on Tuesday.
@Steve I am not saying he can not be a 15-18 minute a game player for us but he is going to be playing a lot of 1 especially with Burks earning time and he just does not see the floor well. That was all I was saying. He has talent I am not disputing that but I do not think he is a 25-30 a minute player. He played 23 last year and probably would have played less if Billups and CP3 would not have been hurt last year.
I watched 7 Clippers games on Synergy. Some of them where he got a ton of minutes. I was just not overly impressed. I think he was the weakest of the three we got this year. Which is why I think he is a 15 min a night player
Plus he shoots 40% from the floor. That is really pretty terrible.
your right, i don’t think there is any way he gets more than 20 minutes a night. Even Coach wanted to i dont think he can. Not with hayward/burks at the 2, and williams/tinsley/watson at the 1.
Hayward is going to go for close to 30 a night.
Burks will go for 10.
Williams will go close to 30.
Tinsley/Watson will for 10.
That leaves him 16.
So yeah he’ll get 20 minutes at the most. But there is no way you can dispute he is a major upgrade at the 2 for our bench.
And last year for the clippers, your right he probably wouldn’t have gotten too much time had billups played, but he stepped up and played a major part in their late season success. i read or heard somewhere, HE took and hit more 3’s than our entire team the last month and a half of the season.
