Jerry Sloan wanting to coach again?

Posted by: Nathan S. on May 23rd, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Could this mean that what Karl Malone said happened, with D-will, Sloan and Jazz management, is the truth? Did Sloan really leave Utah because he was done coaching? Or did he go because Jazz management took D-will’s back and not Sloans?

He could have just caught the coaching bug again. But I find this whole situation strange. I’m not mad for trading D-will because of the situation we are in, but I do wish Sloan was in charge of the team still.

I think Sloan was tired and worn down and D-Will’s resistance to some things was not THE factor, but one of many factors in him retiring. Now that he’s had a year off to rejuvenate himself and take a ’sabbatical’ (Phil Jackson did the same thing), he’s bored, misses the game and is ready for a new challenge.

I think Karl Malone played for a coach 15 years younger and remembers THAT guy and based his assumptions on an outdated view of Sloan and just started talking out his a.ss about things he really didn’t know anything about. That’s my take.

Management did not take Deron’s side and i don’t know why people think they did. We traded Deron shortly after Sloan quit. If you listen to KOC he talks about how they were already talking about trading Deron from the start of the year.

Sloan was physically and mentally tired, we could all see it through the last few years. Now he has had time away from it all and can come back refreshed.

I think it does says that there was much more to it. If Sloan was actually ready to hang em up he would have waited till the end of the season and retired… Especially if he’s willing to take on the Bobcats, that’s the rebuilding job of the century.

At the time everything the Millers said reeked of damage control.

I think Jerry asked to have Deron suspended after that game, O’Conner and Miller said no, probably for a multitude of reasons. Trying to re-sign Deron sure wouldn’t have been easier after something like that, a suspension for Deron probably would have yielded a trade request and things would have got messy…

So after having said no to Jerry, even if they tried to renege and convince him to stay… which they probably did, probably even offering to trade Deron, the damage was done… Jerry probably felt out of control and didn’t want to be the guy who ran off our superstar.

Despite the spin and damage control the majority of the fans blamed Deron Williams… after being tagged a coach killer, management surely decided re-signing him was completely impossible. Deron was already gone.

I think it was just bungled management and with a little foresight, we could have kept Jerry, traded D-Will, and Ty Corbin would probably be off this year to coach the Bobcats… Jerry was taken for granted and Miller and O’Conner wanted to have their cake and eat it too.

    That’s my take.

  4. I think Sloan had or had a break for how many years? Deron stated the reason he was upset was because Sloan was not the same as he was when he first came n the league whether or not part of it was Deron to me that is inexcusable if you are not going to coach or do the things you are supposed to with the same fire you always have had you should not be coaching.

We get on players for not hustling and having heart. Well the coaches should have the same scrutiny if they are not doing everything they could do.

  5. I was not happy to see it go down the way it did but regardless the Jazz were in need of a change and I am happy for Sloan and if he gets the job running the Bobcats I can see him getting coach of the year. That might be a stretch but I hope gets the job.

  6. I hope he doesn’t come back. I love the guy but he is a dinosaur. Out of touch with the younger players and the new style NBA. It would suck to see him fail. I was glad to see him retire so we could move on with the current NBA. Unfortunately you can still see the same style of coaching with the current regime. Hard headed and unwilling to change.

  7. John says:

well under the old style we still made the playoffs…

The only “new” style I see nowadays is star players running off to certain cities… and Salt Lake isn’t one of them.

  8. I could see management taking dwills backand not sloans. He was your most maretable player in jazz history and running the jazz is a business as well so kind of hard not the take what dwill said into account. Either way it will be great to see sloan back coaching even if its not with us i enjoy watching the system he runs. And how he acts in general with his team.

  9. We will never know. Nuff said.

  10. Steve says:

We have been lied to by the organization D-Will is a tool he is ruder than any other athlete I have ever met. He’s just like Lebron James he thinks he’s bigger than the game. I’m just glad that the Jazz woke up, and traded that scum bag. What ever happened to the people that where just happy to be in the league, and didn’t care about the money just the game? It’s all about greed. I hope Jerry goes to the Knicks personally that team needs a hard @$$ like Jerry Sloan.

  11. Fan says:

Jerry Sloan is not a “dinosaur” DWill is not a “tool” and you can’t take everything out of KOC’s mouth as truth. The best team in the NBA today has a coach very much in the style of Sloan
Dave801 is probably correct about what happened. The Jazz are excellent at PR spin and trying to cover every flaw, real or perceived. Why do you think they now have complete control of what’s said on the Sports Radio market in Salt Lake? I hope Jerry does find a new coaching job in the NBA, and hopefully with a team the JAzz only see twice a year.

It would be hard to see Jerry on another sideline. I wish we still had Sloan with the roster options we have now.
