Draft needs

Am I actually still hearing fans say that we need to draft a big? I feel pretty good about the bigs we have now. Jefferson has done well defending the hoop, it is the perimeter D that has been struggling. Favors will be a star and Milsap is having a career year. I think the Jazz need to draft a 2 gaurd. I think Gordan Hayward’s natural position is small forward and it looks like AK will be here now for the rest of his career so if they can draft a 2 I think that will round out the roster well. I also think that at some point they will have to move one of the three bigs which will be a tough call. I like Jefferson and I think he is developing in to the new face of the franchise so it will be interesting to see what they do.

  1. We do not need a big! We have Al if we never get OKur back, then Milsap, Favors, and Okur off the bench hopefully soon. As far as the draft goes, Harrison Barnes is our man. Then with our second pick we might as well get Jimmer. It would be fun to watch the guy try to play in the NBA.

I agree, Jimmer would at the very least generate excitement and I think he can play at the NBA level. I am just starting to get back to posting here and am hearing a lot about Barnes. I have not seen him play and I actually dont know what team he is on.

I agree with the not needing a big guy. I agree with getting a SG. I think Barnes is ok. But I think that if there is a shot there are better before him. Williams, and Terrence Barnes in my opinion would both be better picks. I think that Hamilton would be a better pick than Fredette. But this all depends upon who is available and where we are slotted to draw.. Not saying that the picks you guys are talking about are not good, just think that until things are set, we should set our sights a bit higher than settling with whats left over.. That being said, if there is a chance for Irving, he should be the first we selected. Then Williams, Terrence Jones, Barnes, Hamilton, Then its a toss up between Fredette, Knight, Morris or Burks.. Really guess it depends upon who you got first. Really wouldnt need Fredette or knight if you got Irving. Really all depends upon who is available.. But guessing most agree we do need perimeter defense and 3 point shooters. Not only for the sake of having a 3 point game, but to take some of the stress off our inside guys.. If you look the guys over I listed you will know why I chose the order I did. You may dissagree, but I looked at overall game as well as 3 point shots…

  4. We absolutely need some big time shooters, whether it be a sg or a sf. We need someone who can shoot from anywhere and still play some decent defense, someone athletic. If we draft Fredette every person responsible for that decision should bve fired. He is nothing more than as second coming of JJ Reddick. He will not be able to play defense worth a crap in the NBA. We cannot draft him.
We may be better off making a trade for a shooter. If we were to trade a big for a shooter, Millsap would be a good trade with CJ. CJ is way too inconsistent and can’t put together more than 1 or 2 good games. He can’t do it. Millsap thinks he can shoot from the outside now and doesn’t work inside anymore. Further proof of this is why his rebounds are way down from the way he used to rebound. He isn’t inside enough to get the rebounds like he used to. Millsap can’t survive a full season physically due to him being undersized and playing starter minutes. His body has never been able to survive the minutes. He would be a better player off the bench once Favors can play up to his potential.

  5. Adam says:

Now I think getting a shooter at either the PG, SG, or SF position is our biggest need, but here’s why I am going to make a case for us needing a center. Yes it is true that our trio of Jefferson, Millsap, and Favors is pretty good, but if we could manage to get a stud 7′0″ center we’d be amazingly tall and good because that would allow Jefferson to play at the power forward position and then we’d have no troubles with teams like the Lakers that just beat us up down low because we’re pretty small.

The second case is depth. Jefferson does a good job at center, but outside him, we have Okur, Elson, Fesenko, and now Marcus Cousin. That’s pretty sad. We could use a good backup center and unless Okur returns, we don’t really have one.

  6. One name you all need to know and just fall in love with is Kyrie Irving. If we have a chance to get him we need to get him! But I do agree with Harrison Barnes. He would be an absolute beast and will be. He started out a little slow but he is doing all right now!! One of those two and I would be happy. If we keep losing we might could end up with both

  7. Gerald says:

Well, first off we have to look at Tomic, and if he is coming here. Then we look at what we are doing with AK. And lastly, for right now, we have to look at our draft picks, and maybe see about trading our lower draft pick in a bundle with maybe Millsap, CJ, or maybe both to see about getting a higher pick. If thats possible, we might have 2 picks in the top 5/6, maybe even a 3 or higher pick.

  8. Gerald says:

Although, honestly, I would rather we keep CJ. Sometimes he is inconsistant, but we have other players that could be moved before him.

  9. Yuck, suggesting trading Multiple players for a draft pick in this year’s draft? This is supposed to be one of the weaker drafts of the past few years. A lot of teams would be lucky to get a pick that will ever develop to where CJ is at right now. I’m sure our top pick will turn out to be decent, but I don’t think I would trade a proven player like Millsap for another pick that will never be that good, especially the way the Jazz tend to use their first round picks.

  10. L.K.Anderson says:

Fess, Elson, Price should be gone. Cousin is only a fill in. Okur is all but done. Burks is a 6-6 combo guard that could help in two spots. He is rated high in nbadraft.net
Also Williams is a sf-pf so he sould help in two places. Also he could use up the rest of D-Wills jerseys. You can’t have too many bigs. I would like to see in June CJ traded for S Curry from the Warriors. This would help both teams.

  11. Andrew says:

Derrick Williams would by first choice if we get a high enough pick (he’s projected to go 3rd). If not Barnes would be a good pick and IF we have our own pick (13th or 14th) pick the best player available, if that be Jimmer than nab him. I’m not a fan of Jimmer because he’s a worse defender than Korver is. Plus the fact that he’s a PG, meaning we’d have 4, assuming we keep Watson which I hope we do.

  12. Steve says:

I want barnes… He is exactly what were in need of! Jones and Williams aren’t even close to as good of a outside shooter as barnes, or as smart! He is tall, athletic, smooth, competitive, and a good quality kid! He is a great fit for our need on the court and also what we represent as an organization!

  13. Tyler says:

I agree Barnes is a much better shooter than both Jones and Williams. They are both good players but barnes fits more of what the Jazz need IMO.

  14. Patrick says:

Hate to correct anyone. Wont say names. But Barnes shoots 14.1 points per game, .321 % at the 3, .406 at the 2. He gets 1.4 assist, and 5.6 rebounds per game. He is 6′8″ 210 forward. Overall, he is a good player. Williams stats are 18.8 per game, .604 at the 3, .612 at the 2. 1.1 assists and 8.2 rebounds. Just for fun lets post Jones as well, Guessing your talking Terrence Jones. His stats are 17.1 points a game, .299 at the 3, .447 at the 2. He gets 1.8 assists per game and 9.2 rebounds. The stats that stand out also for Jones is the 1.9 blocks per game and 1.2 steals per game.

As you can see, all 3 players are good. Barnes has had a better second half of the season than he had at the beggining of the season, so his stats may be slightly off, but who can say that the other two arent doing better now than the first of the year.

I keep hearing how everyone wants a Center so we can put Al back to the PF position. Most nights Al at center, Milsap, and with our new Favors, we dont play anyone else in the middle. But look at Al’s numbers. He is doing awesome, why move him. So we can put an unproven in. That means that Milsaps and Favors time on the floor probably dips, and the numbers dip. Why do that if we are doing well. We are beating everyone in points in the paint. You give us a couple shooters from the perimeter to spread out the defense, those numbers will climb, as will our rebounds.. It makes more sense to keep our trio, and doing what we can to get us some shooters. Like Williams, Jones, Barnes or others. One of them should be available at the NJN pick.

Then we have another pick. Still good shooters out there, Hamilton, Knight, Jimmers and others.. I am not always correct, but it does make more sense to get the 3 point shooters and hold onto the solid middle we have..

  15. Gert says:

We need someone like Barnes. He’s from Iowa for the love. I don’t see him later in his career wanting to bail out on us just because our franchise is in Utah. In his interviews he sounds like a good kid, that might not care about being in a high market.
