Meet
A Slow Start

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. The Jazz have been blown out these first 2 games and it looks like a 0-3 start, with the Jazz likely winning their first against Toronto. So a 1-3 start is likely to come about. The Jazz have failed to start out hot or in sync. They have played less than mediocre defense and even though they shot better against PHX than Denver, 42% just doesn’t cut it. I kind of figured a slow start, but after a pre-season I was hoping for a 5-0 start or maybe 4-1.
It’s tough to see any optimism after 2 losses combining for 38 points, but there always is optimism to be found. Last year: we were 4-6 at one point. A slow start as well but ended with 53 win season. The Jazz are still looking for rhythm, and they will find it.
Jefferson looked quite a bit better against PHX, Just like his 2nd game vs Portland in the pre-season (1st game only 4 pts.). The Next game will be tough but the Jazz will gain more rhythm and start out much better, enough for a win? That’s tough. OKC is a very tough and fast team, one that will need tough defense and great shooting. Working the System will be required, not just shooting jump shots all game.
The Jazz have taken way too many jump shots, they aren’t shooting well and normally the Jazz would work it inside. But, for some reason, they haven’t. Hopefully Sloan will grind it in them to push it inside to Big Al or Fesenko. If we are shooting well, get closer to the hoop.
The Jazz’s performance is still in Pre-season form, but it was almost expected with having 6 new faces and 2 new core players. By game 4 and 5 we should look more “Jazz Like” from the Stockton and Malone days.
Now the ending fun fact.
The last the Jazz had this much Hype and Excitement going into a season was 97-98. The year after our 1st Finals appearance. The Jazz started out 1-3 and went on to win a franchise record of 64-18.
Now, i’m not saying they will win 64 games, but more like 55 or so. The Jazz have a long ways and many games wot work out the kinks in the system. Worrying and not believing in the Jazz will just show that you aren’t a true Jazz fan. Stick in there, the best is still to come.

Yeah, I totally agree with you that the best is yet to come. What has been a little unfortunate for me is that the Jazz went 8-0 in the preseason and looked pretty solid in two games against the Lakers.
I think the key reason I’ve been shocked with the last two is that they just don’t look nearly as good as they did a week ago. That sort of thing happens, though. Really, it’s just a matter of getting all those guys on the same page.
The other thing I’m confident about is that the Jazz were making improvements in last night’s game from the night before. Hopefully they’ll be able to keep that up in practices leading up to Sunday.
Good post!
