Ahearn, 6.29 minutes, 1 rebound 1 steal 3 assists……

Project the minutes up to the other players. There’s your point guard….facilitator
Why no love?

Whoa calling out someone via internet post over 6 minutes in a summer league game! Ballsy. But then again, some would call ballsy ’stupid’.
Extraordinarily stupid. Are you related to the kid or something? Little Stockton played circles around him. He’s not aggressive and doesn’t play team ball. He’s a dud. Sorry to be so blunt.
Does a player have to have a name, put up a triple double, play the game while standing on his hands and clean the stadium floor after the game to get any recognition.
I don’t really see a bunch of TRUE basketball fans evaluating talent properly…..
Jeremy Lynn did well with HIS chance…
A lot of you Think you know talent……you are just mindless sheep….you probably never even played inter- murals yourselves.
I happen to like Ahearn because I have watched him play for years! I like OTHER players too, but Ahearn needs an objective eye to look at him NOW.
SOME of you see ONLY what you want to see and try to make yourselves look knowledgeable….WOW!
You know what? I’d love to see Blake succeed. But he won’t. He’s the poor mans CJ miles. At least Miles can sort of stay on his man on defense. I advise you find another player to obsess over, because with Ahearn you’re going to be continuously disappointed. The reason why nobody raves about the guy is because he’s not a notable player. Ever stop to analyze your bias?
Yes you don’t sound like you have a biased opinion of Ahearn at all….
I like the kid. As a third string 2, I’m all for him. But to get all uppety about how nobody obsesses over his supposed “non-objectively viewed talent” is nothing short of ridiculous.
A nice showing today by Alec Burks, as he got to the line often, and shot a high percentage from the floor.
The one negative: 0 assists.
Kanter played a little bit better today, but he still seems to lack fire. He also didn’t do much in the fourth quarter. In 27 minutes, 10 points, and 8 rebounds is respectable, but still not very impressive.
Demarre Carroll has performed slightly below by expectations as well. It makes me wonder if guys who already are assured roster spots don’t just tend to coast in these types of games.
I noticed that the team was really playing a lot of wing play and not involving Kanter much. I’d have liked to see them dish it down low and let him post up a bit more often. I think it would have shown a lot more of his talent on the box score if they involved him more often. But Burks was fantastic. I love seeing him explode like that. He’s definitely a 2 though, not a pg.
I think Carroll definitely coasted a bit this game. I think he realized he wasn’t a marquee name in the game and wasn’t one of the guys battling for their chance, so he kind of stepped back and let the other guys show what they were capable of.
I honestly believe part of the reason that Kanter isn’t more involved offensively is because the coaching staff, and other players on the court don’t have a great deal of confidence in him. I don’t know that for a fact, but just watching as a fan, I kind of get that impression.
Patrick…with three point guards already under contract, and no shortage of guys who can play the 2 position (including Mo Williams at times), I highly doubt Blake Ahearn will make them. Just brace yourself for that, because I know your a big fan of his game. I do think he will catch on somewhere though, and play in the NBA next season.
*will make the team* sorry…typo
Ahearn will never be more than the 14th or 15th man on an NBA basketball team. What are you going to talk about matt when he either gets no playing time or gets sent down to the D league.
Get over Ahearn.
He hasn’t been mentioned a lot, but I’m digging Murphy so far. He’s got a lot to learn and a long ways to go, but he could have a niche to knockdown the outside shot. Time will tell…
Ahearn. Nah. No way. Burkes can score. we all know that. Scoring 30, cool. Worst thing that could have happened for Burkes, 0 assists = good by extra playing time this year.
There is a reason Adhern only played 6 minutes and he lost his starting job to stockton.
@ Patrick……I’m not trying to knock Ahearn at all but all Ahearn can do is stand there and shoot the ball. That is it. That is why he is so good at shooting free throws, because no one is there to guard him. haha I think he will stick on somewhere but not here. There isn’t space on our roster unless we get rid of one of the three point guards that we already have signed.
Get rid of (trade) Watson and give one of the young PG’s from summer league a run at 3rd string
0 assits for burks would be terrible if he didn’t score 31 points. Assits will come in the flow of the offense from the 2 and 3 position once the rotations are on point and in sync of the screens for curls or fade shots.
Did burks even play any PG? Look a Westbrook even at the point, he only averages like 5-7 assists per game as a point guard playing 35 minutes a game. It would have been nice to see burks get 2 or 3 assists with the ball going to him that many times, but the guy can’t really win. We want him to score so he goes and scores showing he can score very efficiently and then we complain about his assists.
Look if you have a scoring threat thsoe are hard to come by so those that can score ussually are out there to look for their shot. Once they get respect and double teamed or a defense really is focused on stopping that scoring threat… then the assists will come, but there’s no reason to assist if you put the ball in the basket yourself, which is what burks did. 31 points and 10 of 14 shooting while going to the line like 5 times… He contributed like the talent we expect. My only gripe is I like Hayward at the 2 and burks wants to start at the 2… I like everyone else would like burks to become westbrook 2.0 if at all possible so we can keep Hayward at the 2. The fact that we aquired Marvin would suggest that KOC wants Hayward at the 2 as well.
Patrick I’m sorry that the school at which you matriculated has so few famous people in this world that you have to try and jump on the coattails of Blake Ahearn, but that guy is mediocre at basketball and is not going to make it as an NBA player. Hopefully someday there will be a new sensation from MO State but for now Bill Mueller was still fairly good at baseball and Kathleen Turner still gets nice acting roles (she was pretty good on the show Californication, check it out!). Please give up your Ahearn fanboyism, it’s getting awkward.
Jake makes some very good points in his reply here. Burks is not too dissimilar offensively from a Westbrook-style “combo 1″. He can be implemented in either guard spot fairly well without having to greatly adjust his game. The main problem is that he has shown to be a severe defensive liability. It’s that part of Burks’ game which is holding him back from being a regular contributor.
Thank you @Jack!!! Burks only played the point the last 2 minutes of game, one play, Kanter set a high screen at the 3 point line, Burks took 3the dribble and was at the rim!!! Another play, they went under the screen and Burks had an uncontested 3, he took it but missed. Burks will be groomed into Nash, think Westbrook and Harden. Burks is already there, cuz needs to run the point.
Burks has to be the number 2 PG, cuz Tinsley is serviceable, but cant hold up over 82 games as number 2. Watson, gives us ZERO offense, we really struggled with him last year.
You have to get your best players on the court so, Burks needs the minutes at the backup PG. And Murphy slides into the backup SG.
@Jake
Is this guy serious? What a jackass!!!
@Chris: Your reply was hilarious!!!
Also, Andrew, there’s no point in arguing with this Milligan yahoo. Some people refuse to listen to reason.
Thanks Omar and Chris…. I totally agree about burks defense. I swear they have no coaching with a proper defensive stance and how to move without stepping over or crossing over with your foot work. I was taught to play defense in some of the best basketball camps around and all of them have more of a sideways fencing movement (if that makes sense)… heal to heal but never clicking your heals together…. kind of a step pull movement, and you just have to practice and condition to get really fast with it. It does take more energy and strength, but it makes for very effective defense with quick lateral movements and the ability to stop on a dime and change direction. the reason I bring that up is because I see that as being an issue for many jazz playes and especially Burks. He crosses over with his feet while defending all the time and it really effects his speed to change directions quickly and catches him off guard on the cross-over dribble.
Personally I think defense like anything in basketball is something you can learn. After playing Highschool and college ball I reconstructed my shot and became FAR better in every area, from spot up shooting to off the dribble…. I’m a dead eye shooter now, far better than when I played every day for hours. Regretably I can see that by not being smarter and more aware with how I was playing the game when I was younger and really focusing on my mechanics drastically limited what I could have accomplished. The reason I bring that up is you can change your game big time. It’s not just something you’re born with… athleticism yes it is something you’re born with. You can get more athletic but if you don’t have the gift you reach a ceiling much quicker than those with that gift. Burks obviously is very gifted so it’s a matter of learning and refining his game. He actually has that off the dribble pull up jumper and other things that are unguardable. I watch him play and see how close he is to being a nightmare for people on both sides of the court. He needs minutes for sure to not only get better but to expose where he needs to get better.
