Poor, Poor Mehmo

Posted by: Chad Phillips on December 20th, 2010

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

Nearly 30 games into the season the Jazz have proven that they can play with the elite teams in this league, win on the road, and beat teams that they should beat (Bucks, Cleveland, Timberwolves).  Yep … these jazz are playing an unfamiliar tune.

With that new tune comes uncertainty … especially for Mehmo.  Kevin O’Connor is nothing if not afraid to trade, or not sign, a fan favorite.  Remember Ronnie Brewer?  How about Dee Brown?  Deshawn Stevenson anybody?  Ok … nobody liked Deshawn … not even Deshawn liked Deshawn.

The humble Deshawn Stevenson.  To be fair … I would take the same picture if I made that much money.

If there were ever a trade that would infuriate Jazz fans and yet make complete sense it would be to trade Mehmo.  I am not even going to point out that it would save the Jazz on luxury tax because I honestly don’t care how much the Jazz pay in luxury tax as long as they try to win a championship.  If we trade Mehmo I want something for him … I want a player that we pay more than Mehmo and I want him to deserve it.  I want to be a contender.

The Jazz has proven that we are legitimate fourth seed in the west without Mehmo; with Mehmo on the court do we see the Jazz as A) the same, B) worse, or C) a one or two seed in the west?  If the answer was not C the front office needs to do what they can to make us a one or two seed.

I love Mehmo … I hate Bolerjack when he says “money” 14 times in a row … but is Mehmo the difference between a second round playoff exit and ring?  Not so sure.

This is the only picture I could find where Mehmo did not have bed-head.  Must be the humidity.

I think a healthy Memo definitely makes us better. He spreads the floor like few other centers can and he’s underrated in both defense and rebounding. The question I have to ask is will he ever get back to 100%? I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but Achilles injuries are hard to come back from. He played the last 2 games at an estimated 80% and looked to be moving pretty well, and then he sprains his ankle today and might be out awhile longer. All of this is speculation and matter of opinion anyway. He hasn’t been on the floor long enough to really know how he impacts the team. If you ask me, a 100% healthy Memo definitely makes the Jazz elite. I hope we get to see him get to that point

    Memo`s wife is fine.

I think its too earLy too decide.
We haven’t seen the team w/ memo in shape.

Trade is not an answer for me..

I agree that it’s a little too early to decide. We need to give it a little time and see how he fits into the rotation. I like francisco coming off the bench and there is no room for memo in the starting lineup. Then again, he could prove to be huge for us down the road. But underrated in both defense and rebounding haha come on…

    Memos wife is so hot.
Also no. Play memo,Elson and Evans on the floor at the same time….watch the roof cave in.

  6. Colby says:

They won’t trade Memo not because he’s a fan favorite but because he’s a great shooter.

I could see either or benefiting the Jazz. Keeping him certainly gives the team a very useful weapon the rotation and certainly someone who provides a bit more offense then Big Al does. But even then, is Jerry really going to take player who’s nearly averaging a double double like Big Al and put him in a platoon?

Why hasn’t anyone thought of just moving Memo to power forward and put him a rotation with Millsap? I think it would be an interesting experiment worth trying if they really want to keep him.

But in the end, I think it’s best for Memo and the Jazz to trade him. I don’t know what you could get in a trade for him, and I don’t know what the Jazz really need, but I think that unless they find a role for Memo and give him his minutes, he’s not worth keeping.

Way too early to tell. I really think when he gets healthy (not if, he works way too hard) he will spread the floor out for both “Al-B-J” jefferson & “the paper boy” millsap (mini malone). Which means no more double teams down low, unless you throw a wing or guard at them. It will be a site to behold, and you will all be begging forgiveness for such ludicrous thinking. Btw my wife works at the vet clinic that treats memo’s dog, and yes his wife is FINE. ha ha Go Jazz!
