Wes Matthews leaving and Jazz situation

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.

After the news that wes matthews was not coming back to utah, i was disappointed but i realized that it was ok.  they got a good replacement in Bell who is less money and a veteran.  the reason everyone loves matthews is because of his story.  if  he was a late first round to second round draft pick jazz fans would still love him, but him leaving the team wouldn’t upset nearly as much people.  it is because he was undrafted and was such a great story.  everyone’s first thought including me was that we deserved to develop him into a successful pro player because we found some great talent and he was an inspiring story.  but to tell the truth, they got a little more broken down older more experienced matthews named raja bell.  we can still find another player that was undrafted that could possibly do what he did, and not have to go after a player like matt barnes that would put us way over luxury tax.  if we found a slightly worse matthews it would be perfect.  cj and hayward would eventually replace bell and ak in the starting lineup and our new undrafted player would be able to back one of them up and bell or ak is the other backup. we don’t need to spend too much money on a fifth wing player, find some young potential and develop.
they need to go after someone who can block shots.  if theo ratliff isn’t retiring he would be a good fit and even though kwame brown is a major bust he wouldn’t be a bad sign for less than 2 million. there are other big guys that we could possibly bring in

It seems that I’ve seen a hundred blog posts like this in the last two days. Seems like everyone has to start their own thread about the same subject. Yes I liked Wes, but I was in the minority when I said a month or two ago that I didn’t think he was in the Jazz’s future plans as far as being their starting SG for the next 10 years. I took some grief for that, but now he is gone. Can’t we be creative in the posts we start and pick different subjects if we start a post? If not, I think stick to the posts that are already there.

i thought it was pretty cool that they started this site to give Jazz fans a place to talk about our favorite basketball team. Remember folks were all on the same side here, i am tired of having to sift through rants about people whining or people upset that they’ve had to read another post about Wes Matthews, just to see other fan’s Jazz related opinions on different things. if you dont want to read another Wes Matthew post, dont read it.

I was bummed out when I found out about Wes. I thought he was our future s.g. for many years to come, but the Jazz only offered him 9,000,000 for one year. I can’t say I don’t blame him for taking the money. The N.B.A. is a once in a life time possibility. I just wish we could have offered him a few million, he might have stuck around for half what Portland gave him.

Sorry Benjamin and Loren, I have nothing against you (and others), but I share the Adam’s view. There is a serious quality decrease of the posts since they opened the “read” page to everyone of us (me including). Blogs can be posted at both the “read” section and the “chat” section. My view is that:

    - The “read” section should contain original thoughts written by eventually “selected” people (eg the Jazzbots), or anyone but after the screening of a moderator. Replies (to the post) are authorised.

    - The “chat” section … well, is for the chat ! It should contain global topics such as “keep Boozer”, “Raja is back”, … and “Wes goes to Jail Blazers” for current discussion.

So, if somebody wants to write another Wes post … please go to the chat page and stick to the actual discussion !

  5. Can someone tell me how the Jazz would be willing to sign another center when they are already over the cap by $3 million or so? I don’t get it.

Ryan – there are no centers out there to sign right now, unless you really think that Shaq has even contemplated coming to Utah, but what the Jazz do have is two trade exceptions left that will allow them to trade for a decent backup.
