Why the Jazz are the Best Franchise in the NBA

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Let’s face it, after the departure of Jerry Sloan the situation became toxic.
Even if Deron wasnt the reason for Jerrys hasty exit, everyone believed it was.
And that’s all that matters.
For the first time as a Jazz fan, that I can remember, a current member of the Jazz was booed by a home crowd.
It was obvious, D Will wasnt beloved anymore.
And kudos to the Jazz for having the gall to do what so many other teams have balked with.
Can you imagine if Bosh and LeBron were assets instead of distractions to their former teams?
And what of Denver. They went through a long and played out process, for what?
I commend the Jazz organization and Greg and Kevin for having the guts to do this trade.
I think with our amazing scouting those 2 first round picks alone will be worth it…but with a great guard like Harris and a young talent like Favors…no brainer!
Good job guys!

Agreed!!!
completely agreed. the moment sloan retired i knew we had to trade deron and i think every jazz fan can admit they felt it even if they didnt say it out loud. what we got for him is fantastic. to effectively get 2 guys from this years lottery and the potential to get one from next years and another from the following year gives this team real stength. i wouldnt describe harris as great though, he will get the job done but if he wants to match what deron has shown he has a lot to do in utah. hopefully he turns out to be great though.
I already posted this on another link, but worth saying again. Sloan never did and never would win a championship for the Jazz….is was way past time for a change. Sloan was a good coach, but all good things must eventually end. Albert Einstein once said “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result…….Sloan never changed…the players did…the league did…the game itself did ..but Sloan never did and the result never did as well…….That being said, I look forward to the new JaZz and hope the future leads them to great things!!!! Thanks for the good times D-WILL and I hope you have great success in the future!
“For the first time as a Jazz fan, that I can remember, a current member of the Jazz was booed by a home crowd.”
Wow, really? I went to plenty of games when Boozer got booed (and NO, they weren’t saying “boooze”, they were literally booing and screaming angry things at him). Also, at every game I’ve been to this year, CJ has gotten booed at least once by a few people
i wonder how the jazz feel about passing up on cp3 now…
cp3 should not bother the jazz he has allready stated his exit talks and demands so he is no better than rhw other big stars that are sold on themselves.
We got a pretty good return for D-Will, and I think the first rounders will net us some big time talent. IMO we should get rid of Hayward and Evans, I really think Favors has more upside and Hayward plays scared on defense. Harris will be adequate as long as he passes more then he tries to shoot it, which I think he’ll do considering he doesn’t have to score as much here then he did in New Jersey. It may help his defense.
Times are tough, but at least we’re in better shape then the Nuggets (who blew out the Grizzlies? What was up with that?)
I love this trade. Just like Boozer, Williams wouldn’t have produced as well if he didn’t want to be here. I love Williams, but I think Devin Harris and Derrick Favors were a steal, along with two draft picks. Devin is awesome, even Dallas was trying to get him back. Playing for a bad team like the Nets, of course your stats are going to drop. I don’t think it’d be worth getting rid of Hayward and Evans, they’re still young and maturing. Give them a year or two and Hayward could be a consistent 15ppg guy. I think Okur and Price could probably be let go, and I think they’re holding on to AK for another decent trade. If I could go back in time, I would’ve kept Matthews and Korver, and sent CJ away. He’s just so inconsistent, and he’s taking as many shots as guys on the All-Star roster.
LOL at the CP3 comment….UM, wasn’t CP3 already saying he wanted out of New Orleans? That he wanted to join up with the superfriends?
CP3 is going to leave the Hornets in free agency the same way LeBron and Bosh did to their teams and the same way Deron would’ve to the Jazz. Not necessarily with evil intent, it’s just the mindset of the current generation of players and the way the league works right now. We’re seeing an exodus of star players from small markets to big markets…which is within the rules but NOT good for the league.
All the Jazz did was get a jump on the inevitable rebuilding that would’ve happened after D-Will left in 2012. We would’ve had a lottery year in 2013, tried to trade up in the draft again like we did when we got Deron, and drafted another superstar for 2014…then its a few more years to see him develop while we slowly try to build around that player.
What this trade does is make us suck right now instead of 2013 and gives us an immediate #3 draft pick that already has half a season experience. We also get a replacement point guard. And we also get yet another pick THIS YEAR (Jimmer??!!) and probably next year. Now, I think that’s an excellent model of success for small market teams. It’s exactly what the Thunder did. They have an excellent young team full of early draft picks, and their salaries are way under teams like the Mavs, Lakers, etc. but are right there in contention with them.
this was a stupid trade Oconner sucks. Greg wants to win a championship, Deron wants to win one to what is up with that. well I’m a Dwill fan and i hope that he wins one with Dallas (i hope he goes there). CP3 is good but it would not workout for him. and about Jimmer he good but what the hell makes you think we will get him. the thing between Sloan and Deron arguing happens all the time hint Malone and others stupid idiots. plus Deron would have left long time ago hmm….. but he signed that contract to stay. what a blow that face. Greg your dead to me.
AL, you have mental problems. Your sentences are so jumbled that they are almost impossible to understand. First off, the reason we think we could get Jimmer is because we have some sweet picks coming up and he will be in the top 15 picks. Second, if you’re such a “D-Will Fan” then who cares if Greg is dead to you? You are now a Nets fan.
@everybody my cp3 comment was just a joke… just tryin to lighten the mood of a situation that many didnt want thats all.
If not the best, one of the best. They got out ahead of the ball, knowing what was coming. It would be great if Deron was committed to Utah, but he wasn’t. He’s mad about the trade because he didn’t have control. And while I’m torn about how much control I think players should have about their lives, I also know we were headed for some kind of free agency showdown that would have been just toxic. So it was a smart business decision. I am going to miss D-Will and that bright smile when things are going right, but I’m EXCITED for our future.
The trade had to be made for a variety of reasons already discussed in depth. The Jazz did get a good return, and now they need to make Favors’ development a priority while also making sure to make the draft picks count.
Unfortunately, the Jazz’ track record on first round picks is spotty (at best); so I’m hoping for the best.
The bottom line that most Jazz fans hate to admit, is that the Jazz will do what it takes to be good, but are not willing to take the risks necessary to be great. This trade almost assures that the Jazz will be good for the next 5-7 years. Look at the Nets, for instance–they swung for the fences with Kidd, Carter, etc. & struck out. After that, they became the worst team in the league; the team was sold, etc.
The Jazz’ model ensures the team remains viable and profitable (and, hopefully in Utah). The Jazz will remain a good, competitive team; and if they strike gold in the draft–a contender. Let’s continue to enjoy a well run organization & hope for the best!
I looked up Favors highlites… Wow.
Agreed, GREAT TRADE!
