Meet
Roster Shakeup

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.I’m sure many of you think this would be a post about how badly we need a trade… which i hope something does happen… but its not! haha What i am suggesting is simply that we change the lineup a little bit.
I know i’m not the only person that thinks this, but Milsap is a much better 6th man than a starter! Which is not a bad thing at all but is actually something to be proud of… think of Jason Terry, Manu Ginobli, Glen Davis, Jamal Crawford… they aren’t starters, but they make a HUGE impact for there teams, and i believe Milsap is that player for us. We thought CJ would be that guy, be he’s just been to inconsistent and i feel would benefit from playing with Deron more.
So what i say is we go something like this…
Dwill, CJ, AK, Jefferson, and Fes.
That would open things up for Jefferson to have more freedom… instead of feeling like he’s sharing responsibility with milsap, he now knows he is the big man on the floor that has to produce. And i think that would make a huge difference. Not only just for jefferson… but our rebounding woes would hopefully go away with 7 footer out there. Cj would benefit from dwill creating opportunities for him. Fes would also pick things up
Then Milsap would be back in the spot where he has thrived the last 3-4 years. He would come in the 2nd and just dominate these 2nd tier players he would face. I hope he would swallow his pride and see that he could be a monster coming off the bench. Our 2nd unit needs more consistency, and that has been milsaps calling card!
So shakeup the roster a little bit and i bet we would see a huge difference!

Well right now the problems are:
D-Will’s terrible shooting and turnovers.
CJ Miles inconsistency.
Okur still injured.
Raja Bell injured–he was just starting to shoot well again.
AK injured–surprisingly NOT back spasms.
Fes on offense.
Evans lack of weight.
Coaching change mid-season.
Defending the three.
Defending the pick and roll.
Millsap and Jefferson I think have been the bright spots of the Jazz play the last 15 games or so.
I would rather see a trade to bring in some new faces, some players who want to prove themselves and have some talent that could help us out in the positions we need (SG) and could add depth.
If EVERYBODY was healthy I would like to see a starting lineup of Williams, Miles, Kirilenko, Jefferson, and Okur.
I would never consider starting Fesenko. In fact, if I was the coach, and I had all 13 players available, I wouldn’t put Fes, Elson, or Price on the court anymore then I absolutely had too.
KCJones and Jason, I agree with just about everything you said. It’d be nice to have Millsap come off the bench, but we really have little other talent in our big guys on the bench right now. Fes should not even be playing basketball, he is terrible. I don’t care what all you Fes lovers out there say, he sucks. Deron’s poor shooting, turnovers, and I’d add defense are killing us. I think starting an outside presence in Memo alongside a strong inside presence with Jefferson would be hard for other teams to defend and would spread the floor. We just don’t have a whole lot of depth right now in our roster, even when healthy I don’t feel great about what we can do. I don’t see Memo being able to make a significant contribution this year, and maybe never again. There are plenty of things we need to be successful that I just don’t see.
Fess is worthless. Houston was looking at him. Trade him and Price for Courtney Lee.. Okur will play in less than twenty five regular season games this season. I would keep CJ as a starter and let Bell come off the bench.
Nah Fes isn’t worthless. Fes is a great 2nd or 3rd center, which is exactly his level of pay. He should be behind Okur/Jefferson if Memo was healthy. He’s great defensively for clogging up the paint. He could be better if he had the work ethic, but he doesn’t. Maybe he’ll get it someday, he’s still young.
I like it but we can’t really do that until AK and Bell are healthy. Fes would benefit from some starts and i think he could really improve his game getting 25-30 minutes. Though I’d rather start Okur when he’s healthy: Dwill, CJ, AK, Jefferson, Memo. But It’s uncertain if he’s going to come back in full strength this year at all.
A trade isn’t the answer, we just brought in 6 new players and trading for a few more makes everything more difficult. I’m going to say it again, Look at the Spurs. Last year the shook up their roster bringing 6 new players and they struggled all year, now look at them. I’m not saying we’ll be that good but it’s a distinct possibility that the Jazz just need this year to get used to each other and build up the chemistry. We have the talent for a championship caliber team, it’s just inconsistency and lack of chemistry that has plagued us this season.
I actually kind of like this idea. When everyone is back, which they should be after the allstar break except maybe memo, I think they should toy with this idea. If fes doesnt work try elson. Remember just because they start doesnt mean they get starter minutes. Also if millsap doesnt do so good coming off the bench try big al coming off the bench. Win or lose, im a fan for life.
Right now this is a disfunctional team. Until they get rid if the person or the cause of this, no matter what the line up they will loose more than they win. They will continue to loose to much inferior teams. I say you are exactly right except we should start Watson instead of Deron then maybe he will wake up. He has directly caused the loss of the last two games. and should be benched. Ty made a big mistake by bringing him back in at the end of last nights game. I dought very seriously that Ty drew up a play for him to shoot so quickly especially when he is not shooting well. He just is not following the coaches directions. He will continue to do this until someone puts a collar on him reels him in. Put him on the bench and let him pout. Let him play some bench mins and see how he likes it.
I am currently convinced that I didn’t actually see someone say they want to start Fes over Millsap. The only way I would start Fes is if Okur, Elson, Jefferson, and Millsap are ALL injured. Even then I would consider signing someone else on a 10 day contact and starting them instead of Fes.
I agree Nate, if Deron was not Deron, he would have been benched by the coach. But due to the actual circonstances, it would have been worse to bench him right now. If he had played like that during the whole season, I am not sure coaches would have sent him to the all-star game. He doesn’t seem to understand that his attitude is directly impacting his own business and future … unless he plans to sign for less money in Utah next year !
The only thing I can say of these comments is it sure a good thing most of you are not coaching the Jazz or we would be in a worse mess than we are now.
This is off topic but I just can’t take it anymore. It’s one of my biggest pet peeves and I’ve let it slide too long.
For anyone that doesn’t know: it is not possible for the Jazz to loose or be loosing (don’t even think that’s a word) a game. They can, however, lose or be losing a game. At the same time, you can loosen a knot or a strap can become loose.
Sorry, it just irks me as much as not knowing when or where to use they’re, there, or their.
On topic, I just don’t think the Jazz have any other option than to start Millsap without a healthy Memo. I wouldn’t start Fes if the future of the world depended on it.
@AG – I 100 percent agree. I can never understand why people think losing has two o’s.
@KC – I agree with your ideas on our main problems, except one. I think AK being out is a plus.
Other than that if Millsap was in the second unit we’d never see Evans
Fesenko might be the worst player in the NBA. What an embarrassment to the franchise. He’s completely worhtless. Any points or rebounds he manages to accidentally get are offset by fouls and turnovers. He’s had his chance.
That being said, we unfortunately need to get rid of Memo as well. Its a tradegy, the guy used to be my favorite player (even more than Dwill) but the poor guy is done. Toast. Finado. His body just isn’t meant to play basketball. Whatever injury he heals from, he will re-injure something else. The back and the achilles wont get better. Ever.
