Possible trade in the works?
Posted by: S.F. on February 6th, 2013
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Chris Sheridan is reporting that the spurs and jazz may be discussing a trade of Jefferson for party mills, erazem lorbek (euro guy spurs are stashing and who Lindsay likes), tiago splitter, and maybe Stephen Jackson for salary match. Not sure I love this trade but it jumpstarts the youth movement. What do you guys think?

I don’t see that trade happening. For one thing the Spurs have made a habit of targeting Al as the weak point in the Jazz team. They have attacked his lack of defense and they have limited his offense. That said the Spurs wouldn’t use Al as the main guy in the way that the Jazz do, not when the have Duncan, Parker and Ginobili, so his deficiencies wouldn’t be so highlighted within the Spurs organization. He could be useful to a team that only needs an added offensive threat. However why do the Spurs make this trade when they have a system that works and they are sitting top of the West? They aren’t going to give up one of the top 3, nor are they going to give up Leonard or Splitter. Why would the Jazz do this trade for say Blair and a third rate PG, when Millsap is a better option there and the Jazz already have 3rd rate PG’s on the roster and are in serious need of an upgrade.
A better option for the Jazz would be to trade with the Clippers. Al is Cheaper and younger than Garnett, who they apparently have an interest in, and would give them some added scoring punch and the Jazz could get a better PG in Bledsoe than anything the Spurs could offer.
Weird trade. I’d do that trade, though. Al for Splitter and Patty Mills? Sure! And we can add our missing crazy guy in Jackson (he’s lower on the totem pole–important to keep team crazy guy in check).
Seriously, what are the Jazz realistically going to get with all this loads of ‘cap space’ this next summer assuming they don’t make a move? Absolutely nothing. Nothing better than mediocre anyway. And then their trade chips will have left and they’ll have nothing to trade as well.
I like it but al don’t seem like a spurs kinda guy to me
This trade isn’t even possible unless we send two more guys, because our roster is at 15. We give Jefferson and take back Mills, Splitter, and Jackson — that puts us as 17, two over the max. Maybe we throw in Bell and Watson?
I don’t like Jackson but the others I would be open-minded about obtaining.
I would love to see Jefferson go to the Spurs so we can see Popovich bench him when he’s standing around instead of boxing out or playing defense.
Even if this doesn’t happen, at least we are seeing some small sign of our FO making an attempt to get rid of Jefferson.
I would assume we’d waive Stephen Jackson (I pray we would). Then we’d have the rights to the euro. If we kept Mills and Splitter, just as Tacorev said, we’d just need to throw in one other player like Watson, Tinsley, or Bell. Bell would be my first choice and then Watson.
I would be ecstatic if this happened! And if we threw in Bell or Watson too, I Would go nuts! But the spurs are a really smart orginization. I dont see this happening. Splitter is having a fantastic season. Mills is all right but way better than Watson and Tins!
This makes sense if there is a 3rdguy team, or if, Spurs are in love some FA available this summer. So long as C4 are intact, and Al is gone, Im good (please send Watson, pleaze!!).
Pop should win Coach of Eternity if he gets Al to play playoff caliber defense!!
Rumor trade is reported by Hoopsworld and realgm, as Al for Splitter, Cory Joseph, and Jackson. Joseph is a Point and a player with a good outlook. Splitter is 6-11 power forward who is a RFA next year and will demand some bucks. Jackson is a expiring contract. One also mentioned Mills a small point guard with a player option for next year. But as everyone has mentioned that is too many players. So a Bell/Watson combo would need to be thrown in. Jackson can be a head case and maybe be thrown in on a three team trade. One way I would say it would make sense is that Lindsey and Layden really just traded places on their new teams. Layden was a coach but I think he is their new GM.
@steven try watching mills before you write him off, he is good. I’d want mills in that trade
