TINSLEY? REALLY?

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Scouting report on Jamal Tinsley:
-Speedy guard with high usage rate.
-Reputation as a ball hog.
-Questionable character.
-Terrible outside shooter
-Low basketball IQ.
Sounds like a great fit for us. Low IQ…I mean our point guards don’t really need to have that right? He was involved in a shooting outside of a nightclub. He has a high turnover ratio, low assist ratio, and true shooting percentage. Why this guy? I’m not a Ronnie Price fan but at least he brings something to the table. Athleticism, energy, local stand-up guy loved by many fans in the community. Doesn’t this seem like a bizarre signing to anyone else?

*ration-not ration.
Garbage!
As far as I know, he wasn’t given a guaranteed contract so he’s just coming in for camp to try and make the team. With Watson already re-signed, Tinsley can only end up as the 3rd string PG. I hardly think a 3rd string PG is anything worth complaining about.
For what it’s worth, Tinsley was drafted out of Iowa State University where he led the Cyclones to a second seed in the NCAA tournament. (Jeff Hornacek and myself came from ISU.) Tinsley contributed to the Pacers’ success ’til he was injured. He was replaced by TJ Ford until Ford was hurt.
At any rate, perhaps we should give Tinsley a chance. Presumably, KOC wouldn’t sign him just on a whim. Besides, the Jazz system may be what Tinsley needs. (Remember how long it has taken Alex Smith to take hold—six different offensive coordinators ’til Harbaugh came along.)
With all the young players on the team, perhaps KOC and Corbin think it’s important to get seasoned players who can help with the development of Hayward, Favors, Kanter, and Burks (e.g., Earl Watson).
This is the stuff I’m talking about. NON-IMPACT PLAYERS that we end up inviting or filling our last spots with. Thats why I argue some of the FA that are availalbe when we go for D-League players? I mean I know tinsley had some really good years witht he pacers and was actually someone that passed a ton, hell you don’t have a triple double with 23 assists if you don’t pass the pall a little, but thats why I argue going after other players like Battier, TMAC, James Jones, Chalmers… anyone and others that are getting paid next to nothing that could have quite a bit of impact on our team. I guess thats the power of either being a contender or offering minutes.
Anyway, Tinsley if you do end up on the team you better return to your days at indiana or get ready to ride the bench or enjoy more days in the d-league. Your agent better be for real when he says you’re in the best shape of your life.
I just watched his highlights, they werent too bad. He’s pretty tall for a PG and looks like he can rebound. His Shooting % and 3 point % arent God awful. The fact that he was involved in a shooting could be a good thing for the Jazz… we need some nastiness that isnt Bell.
Tinsley is a way better PG than Ronnie Price; he actually can run an offense and distribute the ball very well. Just the fact he went to the D-League speaks volumes about his heart and desire to play basketball. Absolutely no reason to NOT give him a shot. Harris has a history of getting injuries, so having a 3rd vet who can actually run our offense could win us some additional games, as he’d be getting some meaningful PT.
I actually like Price, but the skill needed to run an offense just isn’t there… Much better as a 3rd string SG, really.
Price at the 2? He can’t make mid range jumpesr and can’t layup the ball just try to dunk everything. Other than his defense he doesn’t offer what a 2 needs to offer… Maybe as a 3rd option but let’s get a higher impact player than that, someone with more size and higher upside for growth
I really liked price and still do but calling it real.
Hey Jake, will you stop breaking everyones balls?
Lol… Don’t know who’s balls I’ve busted…lol
