Andrei Kirilenko + Utah Jazz = Made For Each Other

Posted by: Chris on June 7th, 2012

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.
Andrei Kirilenko needs to come back! We should do whatever it takes to get Kirilenko back on the Jazz, even if that means giving him a max contract. How can anyone think that bringing back the reigning MVP from the defending champions is a bad idea? Sure, they aren’t the defending champions of our bourgeois American league, but he is a PROVEN CHAMPION AND MVP.
The guy shoots, defends, rebounds, and blocks shots, and he distributes the ball well for his position, and he does it all despite the extra weight from the big electricity conducting bolts in the sides of his head. This guy needs to be back on the Jazz for us to have a shot next year!
Here’s my suggestion – let’s offer him a max-level contract, which is about 17 million dollars, but offer to pay him that 17 million dollars total over FOUR years! He still gets the 17 million, but he gets four full years of stability while earning that 17 million, it’s almost like a signing bonus or something.
Hopefully Mr. O’Connor reads this post and follows up on it. We’d love to see Kirilenko back with Utah dropping buckets and blocking shots.

  1. Nick is going to eat your face!!

  2. Chris says:

I’m not interested in anyone eating my feces, I just want the Jazz to resign the reigning MVP, CHAMPION, Andrei Kirilenko! Whatever it takes to get him, it’s worth it.

  3. KCJones says:

I disagree. We don’t need to do whatever it takes. We need to do it for around $3M/season. $5M max. Assuming we don’t have a way to get a better wing (trade for draft pick for Beal, Barnes, Lamb, MKG or FA signing like Batum, or a trade like Al for Iggy or Al for Granger), AK is probably our best play, but DO NOT overpay for him again.

  4. Drew Bingham says:

I agree with KC (and Dallan! lol), no way should we overpay for him in anyway shape or form. I do think there are benefits, but I’m beginning to think more and more that it isn’t going to happen…and that’s fine.

I can’t help but think some of this is cynicism toward Nick. :)

  5. Guido says:

His wife loves Utah REALLY IMPORTANT.
We need AK I love him, but not for a new max contract, he deserves a decent NBA good player one, not bull !@#$% like people are saying, common!!!! Harris is making 17 app, make ur conclusions.

  6. Andrew says:

If Gordon Hayward were to go to the Euroleague, he’d be MVP too. Same goes for Derrick, Harris, Big Al, Millsap and probably as far as Burks. Andrei is the most injury prone player I’ve ever seen, and his production is nice as a role player, and nothing else. I’d rather see a guy who plays more often than he wears a suit on the sidelines, and Andrei is not that guy. He’s a last resort, not a priority.

  7. Chris says:

Kirilenko led the Euroleague in scoring for the season. He also played more playoff minutes than any other player on CSKA on their way to the Championship because he had no natural backup at SF while their team was better staffed at the other positions. He’s had an unfortunate injury history, but nothing particularly likely to predicate further injuries, and he’s made it clear that the Jazz are his first choice and he wants to play hard for us. Most of my post may have been a joke post, but the fact of the matter is that if we can get Andrei for anywhere around the MLE salary we should be jumping on it, as long as the contract is no longer than 3 years (or 4 if the pay is a bit under the MLE, around 4-5m).

  8. Omar says:

17M over 4 years sounds reasonable. But I would not call it plan A.

I really love the idea of getting Iggy, but if MKG is a cheaper, younger, jazz drafted player, Jazz should make a real go at MKG.

    Plan A: MKG
Plan B: PG (to start or develop behind Harris)
Plan C: shooters (Ilyasova, Novak, Jenkins, etc)

AK only to complete roster if we strike out with FA, Trade, or Draft upgrades.

  9. L.K.Anderson says:

Marcia get back and take care of the kids and quit posting on another name.

  10. Please god no. Not again. Please make it stop.
    Somebody….please….

  11. You’re all conspiring against me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Keep mentioning those names KC, Omar, Patrick … we need to start a twitter campaign to bring all of these guys to Utah. As much as I like Millsap, he cant continue to be our best player if we plan to go deep into the playoffs for years to come

  13. @Chris: I will find out where you live, come to your house and DESTROY YOU!!!!!!!!!

  14. Omar says:

@Kory agreed. I love Millsap also, but he made it clear last year he doesnt want a bench role, and he cannot be a permanent 3, last year on contact, hes got to go.

Once Jazz lost the GSW pick, they should be thinking trade into the draft as high as possible. MKG will actually be cheaper than trading for Iggy, leaving more cap room to work with.

  15. Patrick says:

Just remember guys, there are lots of ways to bring talent in this season. We have passed on a few we thought would come to pass. But KOC, seems to keep us on the edge of our seats with the next thing he might pull from his hat of tricks. I hope it finally fills the holes. Like Kory said, there are some great names out there, and I’m sure some of you quiet ones know of a few we have failed to mention.

Where is French dude. He was the one who pointed out Kanter last yr. Where is the next SF, or PG hiding at?

  16. Adam says:

    *facepalm*

  17. @Adam: I know, right?

@Patrick: French Dude’s been missing but the one guy whose absence really puzzles me is SHOCKWAVE.

That guy used to be all over this forum. Wonder what happened?

  18. Chris says:

Agreed, it’s odd that French Dude and SHOCKWAVE haven’t been around much. Similarly puzzling is that Guido’s still here =P

  19. Guido says:

    wtf Chris? problem?

  20. @patrick I would love it if KOC pulls tricks from a hat or any other place. I dont think its happening. It sucks that every interview he states we are growing from within…whatever, that should happen from every team every year. The Locke interview he talked about doing major homework on basically no-name players I think we get to scout 11 of them for our huge 2nd round pick where we pick up another Paul Millsap. Hopefully the talk is all a front for another landslide deal. I hate to be negative but we have an extreme amount of flexibility to make our backcourt better this off season why dont we capitolize to match the increased league competition? if nothing happens its just a waste of trade exception and losing players next year without anything in return.

  21. Agreed Jazzed.. I do not understand if we do not make changes. That would be utterly ridiculous and we will lose this team. People may think that is dramatic but we can not expect us to fill the roster with great players after this year when we will only have 4 people on the roster. Now is the time for change. It needs to be made
