Meet
David Kahn Stole Our Idea
Posted by: Chris on July 25th, 2012
The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz.Remember how there were a number of us who had posted the idea of bringing back Kirilenko and pairing him with fellow Russian Alexey Shved? Clearly, David Kahn was on UJ360 this summer, because that now seems to be his plan, as featured in http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba–three-team-trade-could-lead-to-t-wolves-signing-andrei-kirilenko.html .
Of course, the Wolves will be overpaying Kirilenko if they’re really shipping him $8m a year as the reports say he’s requesting. But if they’re getting him in the 4-6 range that could be a valuable piece to them.
So, what does everyone think about the possibility of Kirilenko going to our division rival, and how would you personally react as a fan in the stands if he signs with them and then arrives here as our opponent during the season?

I always said someone would overpay for AK47. That’s what happens when a good player hits the open market in the NBA (new motto: “where ridiculous contracts happen”).
Personally, I think AK would make a nice addition to the Jazz for $4-$5M. You can’t argue that he’s not better than DeMarre Carrol. He would complete the depth chart, giving us two full decent squads
1 – Jefferson, Favors, Marvin W., Hayward, Mo W.
2 – Kanter, Millsap, AK47, Burks, Foye
with Evans as 5th big, Carrol as 5th wing, Tinsley/Watson as 3rd PG.
I’m not sure if the Jazz have AK’s bird rights as he didn’t play for us last season. If they do, then we could possibly still be in play for a sign and trade if AK is demanding more than the midlevel exception (>$5M) and go to a team that didn’t have the cap space to sign him outright.
As far as seeing AK on another team, I’m fine with that. I am a little scared that the Wolves seem to be making decent moves and getting better.
I think the Jazz still hold the rights to offer him the first contract but because he didn’t play in the NBA last season they cannot sign and trade him to another team.
Looking at the Wolves I see them doing a similar thing to the Jazz at the moment, they seem to be addressing the areas of the team that needed the most work. Its going to be interesting to watch what happens. The Wolves would have made it a tough fight for the playoffs had Rubio not got that injury. I still think they could have made it without him playing but once he went down the message from the top of the organization was to get the lottery pick.
I’d like to see him back and finish his career in Utah. But it sounds like the Jazz aren’t even in the mix. Which is probably good because he wants too much money.
AK should be loved for what he did in a jazz uniform, even though his contract was ridiculous.
8 mill??? then we could take him back, if he respect what he says about made a discount to be here.
Ha ha respect! I like it Guido! We did good this summer. I like Marvin and Mo they are better than AK and Shved. And I put up post last may with Ak Dancing vids and Euro player prospects including the Shved and AK combo option. I wouldnt doubt if adding Shved was part of AK’s terms to sign a deal. But Mo , Foye, and Marvin… way better.
Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!
AK making $18mil a year was ridiculous, Wolves will be better but might regret the decision when they see his fully decked out world of warcraft character.
Smart move by the TWoves now they will compete with Denver and Portland for the 3rd spot in our division
ha totally Jake – I think they’ll make the playoffs this year if Rubio stays healthy – before he went down they were in the running last year and they’ve upgraded several positions.
Northwest is the toughest division in the league by far. Even Portland was in the playoff hunt before they shut down all their players and tanked.
I think minnosota is better than Portland though
for sure –
OKC>Jazz>Minny>Denver>Portland is my prediction barring injuries.
AK ended at $10m/yr and Kahn had to give up a former #4 lottery pick, and another lottery pick, to dump his salary, in order to overpay AK.
But, AK will be a good fit for the Wolves on the court, just not under the cap.
