Lay Down Your Roster

It’s a card game with seven rounds where you try to discard everything you have in your hand. In each round, you have to make certain combinations with your cards. In one round, for example, you must produce a run (straight flush) and a group (series of cards with the same card value). The idea is to keep trading out your cards until you have a combo that works that utilizes all of your cards. To win, you’ve got to be able to make the right amount of trades and pick-ups. If you don’t trade/pick-up enough, you get stuck with a set of cards you can’t play. If you trade/pick-up too much, you can never get a good combo started up.
Here’s your chance to play (in slight variation). From the NBA deck, you are dealt twelve cards. After some initial trades, you produce your run: Deron Williams, Raja Bell, Andrei Kirilenko, Paul Millsap, and Al Jefferson. You have the start of a promising group in CJ Miles, Mehmet Okur, and Gordon Hayward, but you must add to it. You also have Ronnie, Price, Sundiata Gaines, Jeremy Evans, and Othyus Jeffers, which could be used towards your group. On the table, you have Kyrylo Fesenko. Beside him, you have Louis Admundson, Earl Barron, and the Jester card (Shaq). (Note: If you pick up the Jester and cannot produce a group, you are penalized at the end of the round.) The dealer also directs your attention towards Mike James on the table. You must pick up one more card, but cannot hold more than fifteen in all.
You can still make trades, but you can only use what is available from the remaining deck. Can you produce a group?
(My Run) – Williams, Bell, AK, Millsap, AJ
(My Group) – Miles, Okur, Fes, Admundson, Hayward, Price, Gaines, Evans, Jeffers

Whoa, you just compared the off-season to a card game. I’m not going to lie, that was pretty cool. I like Deron’s picture on the card. You should photoshop that on to a dollar bill. Umm, so the rules of the card game went right over my head, but I gather that my starting 5 is the run and my bench players are the group. I can have 5 starters and 10 bench players. Only those cards can be used.
My Run – Okur, Jefferson, Kirilenko, Bell, Williams
My Group – Barron, Fesenko, Millsap, Amundson, Evans Miles, Hayward, Jeffers, Price, Gaines
That is with the current cards. It is assumed that my Okur card isn’t ripped in half, but is instead taped up and playable. If I can find other available cards, I would like to swap in my James Augustine card and my Roger Mason Jr. card for Fesenko and Amundson.
That would leave this – Barron, Augustine, Millsap, Evans, Miles, Hayward, Mason, Jeffers, Price, Gaines
My Run – Williams, Bell, Miles, Jefferson, Okur.
I also assumed that my Okur card is playable.
My Group – Millsap, AK, Price, Gaines, Fesenko, Hayward,
Amundson, Barron, Jeffers, Evans.
Or if I could swap for other available cards,
My 2nd Group – Millsap, AK, Price, Gaines, Fesenko, Hayward,
Amundson, Barron, Larry Hughes, Jarvis Hayes.
(Swap Jeffers for Hughes, Evans for Hayes)
