Game 18: Rockets 124, Jazz 116

The author's views are entirely his or her own and may not reflect the views of the Utah Jazz. The Jazz fell apart down the stretch after coming from behind in a back and forth slug fest, dropping one in Houston. Patrick Patterson led the Rockets with 20 & 7, while Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons each scored 19, Lin also dishing out eight assists. James Harden had 18 & 7, Omer Asik had 14 & 12, while Greg Smith and Carlos Delfino each added 13 off the bench.
After the Jazz went on a 12-2 run to tie it at 107, they proceeded to give up wide open 3’s on the perimeter and And-1’s in the paint. Those easy points added up quickly for the Rockets, and the Jazz couldn’t respond.
Hayward led the Jazz with 21 points, while Jefferson had 20 & 8 and Foye finished with 20 & 6. Mo added 16 & 7, Millsap with 12 & 11, and Burks came off the bench to score 11.
The Jazz go 1-2 on the road trip, falling to 3-9 on the road and 9-9 overall.
Next up is the Clippers on Monday night back at ESA.

*3-9 on the road, 9-9 overall
If you look at the stats both teams played almost identical, what it came down to is Houston having 26 free throws vs our 11 free throws.
@millslapped My bad. Fixed.
62 points in the paint: again Jazz get outscored in the paint. Al settle for too many jump shots, and Smith worked hard to control the paint and Asik shiy down Al in the 4th. Jazz interior D combo of Millsap and Al is straight garbage. Burks lools like hes getting into rhythm shot over 50%, played good D.
James Harden looked hungover (dribbled the ball of his foot) he got going 2nd half when it wore off I guess.
I hate life.
@Colten: lol I feel the same sometimes after watching the Utah Frustraters…err Jazz.
At least Burks got some more time, enough to settle in to actually playing the game instead of feeling like he hsd to make something impressive happen in his 2 minutes.
Good to see hayward and burks have good games. Hopefully both we build off tonight. We badly need favors back. We will continue to give up points in the paint like that without him, Jefferson turns into a spectator when someone drives the lane and goes up for a layup or dunk.
Our off ball screens also need to be coached up a bit, they aren’t very good. Which is suprising when our offense needs good screens set, hopefully corbin corrects that soon. And while he’s correcting that, i hope he talks about boxing out too.
Good game after a tough one last night, just an unfortunate run for houston towards the end. The energy and fight was there, certain things just need to be corrected.
WOW…the defense is just plain awful right now.
Granted Marvin and Derrick are out right now, and Jefferson is a constant liability on the defensive end, but I feel this issue runs even deeper. There are defensive breakdowns all over the floor. Millsap deserves some blame. Foye deserves some blame. Mo deserves some blame. Corbin definitely deserves some blame. Just about everyone deserves some share of the blame, with the possible exception of Carroll.
It really pisses me off to see this team play so soft.
I think coaching is the problem. The players seem to comfortable. I remember Karl Malone saying in an interview they call Coach Corbin Ty and that they are just too comfortable everywhere because they have such great chemistry. Perhaps because of the chemistry awesomeness they don’t hold each other accountable including Coach Corbin not holding players accountable.
I know the score, so i thought I’d check on here before I sit down to watch the game. After looking at the box score and taking into account last nights game and the fact two big blokes are out, why won’t I see much of Kanter when I watch the replay?
this game was the rookie game right ?! 240 points, less than 80 rebounds, high % for each team, STRICTLY no defense……….
Good game for Hayward to come back firing after an awful game against the thunder.
I completely LOVE Mo, Foye, Burks on the floor at the same time. Defense could not handle them on the perimeter. If a team puts taller defenders on them, burks will score on the drive all day. Mo can also beat taller defenders, so I think it will work long term for those 3 to play together. Once burks gets more playing time and isnt frantic for points, his dish to a post man on the drive is going to break a defense.
Al and Millsap need to show some leadership. No hustle, no D from them and they took a hell of alot of shots to break double digit scoring, which seems like Al and Saps entire agenda. After they reach the magic double digit pts and rbs stat line, they are done for the night.
Kanter is a complete manchild inside. Some of his post moves are becoming second nature already. Thats insane, his improvement speed is incredible to me.
I have to agree with Jason here , this is not just a al , paul and coach issue . This team cannot play team defense at times , there is way to many open looks on the perimiter and they all are pretty much guilty of just watching opposing players just blow by them for a lay up or a dish to the paint . There has to be effort on defense no standing there watching the opposing team take it to them .
I have to say that it sure is exciting to see Kanter make big strides like he has . It seams that Kanter and DMC are the only ones trying to play with heart .
That being said , there is so much talent on this team I wonder why these guys cant figure out how to play together . If they did we would be way better than we are now .
I hope they figure it out soon . Go Jazz !!!!! I still beleive in you .!!!
Why are they not playing together? Cause 9 people are in contract years. 4 people are fighting to establish their role in the NBA. They right now do not care about team because they are not getting the time each of them deserve. Last night we saw Burks,Foye and Gordon all play well because they each got time to contribute. They do not get this with Marvin here. This “deep” roster has caused issues that were foreseen before the season started. There was a reason Denver made a trade so that they could clear up time and not have chemistry issues. People were talking about Dallas and how they have all these expiring pieces around SLC and how that would be a problem. We are in the same position. So our wonderful all knowing GM put us in this position because he saw players he has always wanted so he just added and added not thinking about who was on the roster or how it would affect players. It has affected them poorly and we are seeing that in games.
Has anyone noticed ball screens and picks on our offense ? Our guys just walk through and raise their arms like “whatever i tried”
@Dallan Im with you about too many rotation players on a contract year. Were lucky these players are all good characters and we havent had a complete blow up yet. Its not fair to the Corbin to spend his energy playing peace keeper. He struggles enough as it is. Kanter and Favors play should be confirming a move soon. Anything less than 25 min of PT for them is crazy. 9 DNPS for Burks? wow.
Dallan I see what your sayin , maybe KOC and FO was expecting to make a big trade with these asset . It has hurt the play of a few players I beleive .
Jazzed uponit I am not sure what was involved with their dicision to DNP Burkes but there must have been a good reason for it . I cant imagin the FO allowing that to happen unless there was .
I am glad to see Burkes and Evans gettin a chance to play even if it is limited minutes . I hope they give it their all in that oppertunity they have .
